- Former Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby is not going to prison.
U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby spared Mosby from prison but sentenced her to three years of supervised release, 12 months of which will be in home confinement.
Two juries convicted Mosby of lying about her finances to make early withdrawals from retirement funds during the pandemic and fraudulently claiming that her own $5,000 was a gift from her then-husband as she closed on a Florida condominium.

I don’t understand why in the hell with the judge allow the prosecution to take her Florida home which is now worth $800,000 because they say she lied about a $5000 gift from her husband. Why not just make her pay back the $5000- 10k fine? Which is insane in and of itself because it was HER $5000 IN THE FURST PLACE!!They just hate to see a black person doing well. The feel like “How dare her for living in one state and having a second home in another state”. How dare her for building wealth for her kids. Regular white people have second homes in other states all the time. I work in healthcare and I have coworkers from New York who live down here in Florida, but still have a New York lake house or condo. People live in other states all the time and have second homes in Florida, i.e. Derek Chauvin, who they prove voted twice in each state. So they are mad as hell that This woman cannot have a second home in Florida!! . The punishment does not fit the alleged crime. She needs to set her up a good UA-cam channel and start working from home during this next year and build her wealth back up over this next year by also writing books and then once her confinement is done she can go back into law, go on the essence festival and other speaking tours, lecturing, college law professor, speak about miss justices, whatever she wants to build her wealth back up for her daughters. Also, if they take the entire value of her home, do they have to pay off her mortgage and then they keep the profit Or is she still going to owe the mortgage lender the 400,000 that she borrowed?

Lying on financial applications. Oh God. That never gets charged up here, unless someone gets burned. And they have to be burned. Really really bad.
On one hand, this encourages people to lie on everything from their car loan to their income taxes. Because it's rare to get investigated and it's more rare to get charged and almost impossible to do jail time.
This is extremely painful for someone who follows the rules. But I sure as hell don't want the American alternative of sending people to jail for months and years.

The paper trail is clear in that it shows she used the money to buy another house. After he lost his job, my husband and I withdrew money from his retirement fund to pay off our mortgage so we wouldn't lose our home while he looked for another full time job. The only thing that happened to us afterwards was we had to claim that withdrawal as income and therefore we owed $700 for federal taxes. No one came and accused us of committing a fraud. End of story.
