It's amazing what the inside of the vcr looks like. All that electronics and mechanics just to play a tape. I love the vcr and miss it. The one's from the 80's were awesome well built machines.
This is the most beautiful HITACHI series. I have VT-498EM (unfortunatley, capstan drive is broken :-( ) and S-VHS VT-S80E. I have repair that VT-S80E and its working very good :-)

great old vcr
I also like very much this guys VCR Hitachi VT-580 6 Head, 4 Head Video and 2 Head MTS HiFi Stereo VCR, this is a Deluxe Model, Super-VHS machine, very nice to own. What I didn't like is why the dude opened the Exquisite Machine casing to collect dust. I would have "NEVER" opened the machine to expose it to dust and particle debris!

finally I can buy a VHS recorder Hitachi VT 580E. it had to buy many new spare parts it has a kommplettes new cassette compartment with everything that heard there a new pressure roller a new rime many allte elkos were exchanged. and I know welsches identically device as spare part donor can take, the capstand engine has also been swapped VT 580E is extremely rare
Now THAT is what I call a VCR! Not that junk Funai crap they sell today, this is where it's at!

that is a 3 head hi-fi unit i counted 3 video and 2 audio on that drum 3 holes below a head =1 head. 4 holes =2 heads via dual azimuth on Hitachi units always use the outer holes to figure out the head count

These digital effects are exactly the same on the Sony SL-HF860/870D Betamax machines!!
This VCR is from probably 1985.
i also have a Hitachi like this but my Hitachi is a S-VHS Machine with 7 Heads Flying Erase Head and insert cut. My recorder have a Problem with the VLD Display Tube the same start like your Recorder. This is the Powersupply on the left back side. Inside this Box is a Problem with the Powersupply . The Electrolytcapacitors are defect also at your Machine. If you disconnect the Powercord from the AC Connector the you open up the Recorder und change the Electrolytcapacitors inside this Powersupply. So after this work you don't have the dark numbers in the VLDisplay. At this time the dark Characters and Numbers in the VLDisplay are show you that the Powersupply is defect. Good luck for the repair.
