  • The Dare County Regional Airport has served the Outer Banks community from its Roanoke Island location since 1943 and facilitates more than 32,000 landings and takeoffs each year. After nearly 80 years of service, the airport’s apron-also known as a ramp or tarmac-had experienced significant wear and tear and was in need of a major renovation. A project to replace the outdated and deteriorating apron got underway in November 2021 and was completed at the Dare County Regional Airport in May 2022.
