    Recently I found having your fold in dark mode makes it more difficult to see outside. Turn off dark mode for max brightness outdoors.

    It could also be that the matte screen protector of the OnePlus Open might be making the screen dimmer to our eyes. Think of what matte displays do on laptops and monitors. Often the ones with glossy screens look brighter and the colors look more vibrant but any direct light shown on them results in a glare that is very noticeable.

      I came here to say the same thing. I have noticed that on my OnePlus Open the sliver of screen that the protector is not covering is way brighter. You can kind of see it in this video too. There seems to be a brighter border on the inside screen.
      I am wondering if the screen is actually just being dimmed by that protector (which helps immensely with glare) you can see that it is purple tinted when in direct light
      I just got my open so I'm kind of scared to take it off though. I also don't have any problem in sunlight because of the glare reduction

    The dogs play really well and don't let themselves be disturbed when you're making a video. I can't watch any video when my cat is in the room, he can't stand noise, or any louder voices, sounds, he comes right away to chew on the phone or force me to close the video, I can't allow him to chew on the phone. Fortunately, from spring to autumn, he is more of an outdoor cat than an indoor cat, but in winter it is a little more difficult with him if I want to listen to something, watch something. He is not used to people or noise, still, even though he is already a four year old boy, he was a wild cat when we got him. Thanks for the video, for me it's exciting and informative, because I'm planning to buy my first foldable phone, but I definitely don't want a samsung, for me, samsnug is not quality. I haven't had a Pixel yet, it looked like it would turn out! I'm listening and researching, but I still haven't figured out if the Pixel series will be presented in August and if it will also go on sale in August, or will it still go on sale in October? Maybe there are some other quality foldable phones available, I'll have to do some research for myself. Currently, I have also seen a bit of the new Honor foldable phone. In any case, the technology is fascinating.

    Nits are not a very useful scientific measurement as they are not linear. They are algorithmic. So, some people may think that the difference between 1000 and 2000 nits is double, but it is closer to 20%, and for it to be double 1000 nits in perceived brightness, it would need 10,000 nits. The difference between the OP and Fold6 is nominal, and the Pixel is probably around 15% less bright (max). The noticeable difference in the Fold6 is likely due to the software, which may be more vivid.
    The brightness, of course, affects battery life, so 100% brightness will be 39-47% more efficient using dark mode than light mode, which varies by app. However, using at 40% brightness, dark mode only saves between 3-7%, and even lower brightness, a negligible difference.
    So, if you are out and about on a sunny day at 100% brightness, stick it in dark mode to save battery, and that may help keep temperatures cooler as well.

      Beyond speculation about software making the Z Fold appear brighter, the Open has also been tested and it's never 2800nits.

    • @TGMisKillingTheMiddleClass
      @TGMisKillingTheMiddleClass 2 місяці тому

      @@luc7976I have a sneaking suspicion that the anti-glare protector on the open is blocking a decent amount of light. Maybe the 2800 nits measurement was taken without that protector. There is a very slim border around the inner screen where the protector does not cover and it is significantly brighter in daylight. I am tempted to take the protector off and see for sure, but kind of nervous to do that
      Since he took this video on a cloudy day it does not show the glare that the fold will have. The anti-glare protector on my open makes a world of difference in direct sunlight (which this video was not)

    While I do appreciate the outdoor visibility of any device I am using, I really appreciate the quality and consistency of something that I am paying significant amounts of money for. In this comparison, one thing stands out to me and that is Samsung is on its sixth generation foldable and Google and OnePlus are on their first generations. Although their first gen devices are pretty good, I feel a lot more confident going with the Z-Fold as many of the kinks have been worked out over the years that the others are still working out.

    Shane great video! I wanted to bring something to your attention. I've had 2 OnePlus Open devices and both have had issues with inner display color uniformity on white and light grey background with brightness around 30-40%. I never had this issue with other foldables like the Pixel Fold, Z Fold 4 or Vivo X Fold 2. I confirmed the issue using Display Tester app on the Play Store. I don't know who makes the inner display for OnePlus but it seems the color uniformity is average at best. Most people will not notice the issue but I have very sensitive eyes or OCD when it comes to display quality. Please look into this and see if your OnePlus device has the same issue! Again it's under low brightness conditions.

    Excellent information. Thank you. I have the One Plus Open. Had Z Fold 4, had Pixel Fold. I liked them each for different reasons. I'm going back to Fold 6 specifically because of the Samsung ecosystem, the current trade in value (traded a Samsung Ultra 23 $800) and the anticipated trade in value for the next generation of Fold.

    All tho the oneplus has a less visable crease the crease on Oneplus is ugly/lumpy looking. With that said with the Oneplus customer service horror stories I ordered the Fold 6. With all the trade in and preorder incentives I got the Fold for only a 100.00 more. I really like the Oneplus better but just cant get pass customer service on such a product like a foldable. Plus I am hoping the new layer screen Tech on the 6 will be more durable.

    This is common with Chinese goods. They pull inflated numbers out of the air for specs and people fall for them repeatedly. I saw a real-life foldable battery comparison test on another yt channel that consistently proved the Oneplus Open dies sooner than the Zfold 5 or Pixel Fold. This begs the question: how can Oneplus (or any of these thinner, lighter chinese foldables fit a larger battery than the ZFold without gaining weight? The battery is the heaviest component, yet the Chinese foldables are lighter - and "claim" larger batteries. How so?

    • @scaryifliteral
      @scaryifliteral  2 місяці тому +2

      My Open consistently outlasts the Pixel Fold and is at least as good, if not better than my Fold 6 on Light Processing.

    • @bluej2k
      @bluej2k 2 місяці тому

      @scaryifliteral I believe you. But that very well could be because the outer screen gets used more on the Open than the ZF in your case. The point is, the Chinese will and often due outright lie on specs to generate sales. I still want to know how a heavier battery can be put in a (net) lighter and thinner phone than the ZFold?

      @@bluej2kyou should ask Samsung that. I own a OnePlus open, I owned a fold before it. I think the whole confusion around the peak brightness is the fact that the anti-glare screen protector takes away from that brightness of the panel. There is a super slim sliver of screen that is not covered by the protector and it is definitely brighter.
      Personally I prefer the fact that it has the anti-glare. My fold was impossible to read in the sunlight because of the glare, and the valley like crease made it even worse.
      Once I saw that they we're using the same cameras for the third year in a row and increase the price they immediately lost a long time customer. One Plus open has a bigger screen, bigger battery, is lighter, thinner, and better cameras....
      And no, the battery is not a lie. I understand that China pumps out cheap trash, but they also make high-end electronics too. Don't let the propaganda skew your reality.
      Instead of spending $1,000 to trade in my fold for essentially the same fold with square corners, I stepped up. The cameras alone are worth it
