Respect for giving abyss some love it's my favorite too, phantasia comes after Xillia maybe wasnt biggest fan of symphonia honestly Edit: Xillia is also up there probably top 5
@@DrCrazyEvil he said he's only doing the first 10 games released in the U.S. ToV came out in the U.S. before ToS2, but the Japanese release for ToS2 came or just a bit before ToV so you can argue witch of the 2 should have been on the list.
@@Spug08181987 yeah I know and I got that one. Really good. I mean like in the current games with Sorey and Velvet in them.(Can't say the names cause I can't spell them properly)
I've been playing Tales of the Abyss since 2005 and still am to this day. The battle system is awesome. The story is just so unique and immersive. Plus, there's just so many things you can do other than the main story line. Luke's character progress is and always will be the most moving and inspiring story I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a game. I just wished they added more episodes in the anime so it can be as immersive as the game but overall it was pretty good.
Symphonia was also my first one! I didntn even speak english at the time and couldn't get pas the first dungeon. I ended up playing with my older cousin who knew and taught me so much english. We ended up playing pretty much every Tales of localized in North America in coop. Symphonia is the reason I'm into JRPGs
Tales of the Abyss is the Holy Grail... Makes me mad Symphonia got a PS3 port but Abyss only got a 3DS port after the PS2. Outside of Abyss I only love Vesperia, hopeful for Arise
It's remastered, or remake should happen soon, besides Vesperia (came way too late) is the next most beneficial title, IMO. It didn't deserve to be put on 3Ds; it deserves something much better. With proper marketing, I believe it would be more popular than Symphonia.
I started Tales of Berseria just recently and honestly I really like it. Finally you are the actual bad girl seeking revenge and dont care for the misfortune of others, a nice change of twist haha :D
Because it's so fun to play as a character you can not sympathize with, yes... I'm sorry, it's your opinion, but i really don't like Velvet. It's because of her that i stopped playing the game. Playing a revenge driven character... not my thing at all
11:58 - Even though Symphonia was a great game, Tales of the Abyss was the game that really cemented the series for me. It was just fantastic, and anyone who is a fan of the series at all and hasn't played it should definitely take a look at it.
I'm playing Tales of Symphonia on PS3 now and it's wonderful. I love returning to the bright colors and music of this world. Had to put down Final Fantasy 8. Was getting too depressing 😅
I’ve been playing Graces F lately and... I’ve just fallen in love with everything about it so far. When I finish it I think it might end up becoming one of my favorite games of all time.
@@DaemonDesiree I mean the whole thing with Abyss is you're not really meant to like Luke at first but as the story progresses he gets so much better which is why people obviously enjoy the game so much
I kind-of feel the need to come to the defence of Legendia here. The gameplay, as you've noted, was pretty wonky, and the division of the story into two parts, with all the backtracking entailed, was a problem, I can readily concede, but, while the Legacy is constrained, I absolutely loved the visual style of everything there. The odd, floaty, ethereality of the Crystal Forest and the Mirage Palace, the magitechy Ruins of Frozen Light and Man-Eating Ruins, and the strange merging of nature and technology at the Wings of Light. I had a feeling of characters living ordinary lives on top of ancient secrets, but this was, very sadly, not explored nearly as much as I would've liked (which is my recurring complaint with the games); Senel isn't as bad as Luke for his early whininess, but I think he also undergoes a pretty decent progression, Moses is endearing, and Will is, as you mentioned, pretty hot. Also, there's the music. Go Shiina's been a favourite composer ever since I first played the game. It's perhaps a rather tepid defence, but this one game has a very big soft spot for me. I also think Symphonia's a touch overrated. I've never managed to finish it. After playing Abyss (which I ended up getting first), it felt regressive, and I haven't managed to attach to Lloyd or the others like I did with the Abyss, Destiny, Phantasia, and Legendia groups...
Legendia easily has one of the best soundtracks in the series. It's one of the few things that makes trudging through the same long dungeons twice actually bearable.
@@briansellers8840 I did actually enjoy the characters, though I have mixed feelings about the story. The visual style of the game's art and such also really stuck with me. I would love to see the game remade or reimagined...
Great list. Tales of Abyss is definitely my favorite Tales game and was once my second favorite game of all time (and then those damn Trails of Cold Steel games just had to come along and take the spot while I was looking for PS3 games after getting the PS3 exclusive Tales games. And those were just the first two...). To this day, I still think Luke's character arc is one of the best I've seen in any video game and he still rates as one of my favorite protagonists (he would have been #1 but again .... Cold Steel.) On top of Luke being a brilliant deconstruction of the typical angsty, amnesiac, chosen one protagonist, I played Abyss while I was in high school so Luke's arc of wanting to change and try to become his own man really spoke to me (I can even remember at least most of what Luke says to Asch before there final boss fight. Still one of my favorite moments in a video game). Interestingly enough, I got Tales of Eternia/Destiny 2 as a graduation gift for myself after I found a rare PS1 copy in stock at one of the local game stores during my final weeks of college (shout out to Play it Trade it for those in the Columbus, OH area. no, I wasn't paid for that plug). I'm honestly kinda mixed on the game. While the graphics are great and the gameplay is fun, the story and characters take a long time to get interesting (and this is coming from a guy who thinks Cold Steel 1 is well-paced). Though Eternia might have the best soundtrack in the series imo. Tales is a great series but honestly, despite the numerous great games that have come from it, I don't think we've seen the best the series has to offer yet.
I felt the same way when I first played “Tales of the Abyss” on my 3DS! It was my first “Tales” game and I picked it up because I hade heard how good “Tales of Symphonia” was but I didn’t own a Gamecube when that came out so I missed it. I disliked Luke sooo much that I also almost quit! But I’m glad I didn’t. To this day Colonel Jade is STILL one of my all-time favorite JRPG characters! I love how sarcastic he is!
Ranking my favorite Tales games that i've played so far, would have to go: Abyss Vesperia Symphonia Phantasia Hearts Berseria Radiant Mythology Zestiria
Luke was SO annoying but it was nice to see his character change. I also love the God Generals and Ion. He’s my favourite NPC in any Tales. Not sure why, he’s just adorable. Also, the ending of Abyss gets you.
I actually have a soft spot for Legendia, even though I know it's not great. That is, of course, until the character quests. In addition to the lack of voice acting, it's paced horribly, and somehow, the dreadul Waterways is even worse, and it's one of the first dungeons you have to return to! Although the CQs have their bright moments (especially the end of Moses' quest - a must watch for every dog lover out there), I usually end my session after beating Nerifes.
Legendia have one of the best cast in the series. The characters interact very well between them. The characters quest are good. I liked the chloe, moses, will and norma
1. Tales of Eternia (Alot this game introduced! from hidden abilities, to team attacks, customization, and just various tropes like skits) 2. Tales of Vesperia (I really liked the characters, the story, and I think this one really nailed down the 3D combat first! Also
Abyss all the way! The story and gameplay were magnificent! I never got to own it for PS2, just rented it and played it for hours on end. I do own it for 3DS though, but I *hope* it'll get a remaster one day with updated graphics, gameplay and even voiced skits in English!
At any rate, my rating, not only for early games, but all games, including ones you can't play in English yet, as long as they're based around a single timeline (so not Tales of the World, but Dawn and Narikiri Dungeon X can count), counting only the most definitive version of every game: 1. Vesperia 2. Destiny PS2 3. Rebirth 4. Abyss 5. Berseria 6. Hearts R 7. Symphonia 8. Innocence R 9. Narikiri Dungeon X 10. Eternia 11. Phantasia 12. Xillia 13. Graces F 14. Legendia 15. Destiny 2, but it might just be my lack of knowledge of Japanese 16. Xillia 2 17. Zestiria 18. Dawn 19. Tempest I like them all except Dawn and Tempest, though.
I liked Legendia...it was actually the first Tales game I ever played. Never got too far in it because I had to rent it and could only play it at my friend's house because I only had a game cube at home... I love Berseria, Zestiria, and Vesperia too. I haven't played Abyss, but I saw the anime...
Him: "#8 Tales of Symphonia" Me: "Dawn of the New World" Him: "Dawn of the New World" Me: "I fuckin' hate that game, I hope he dunks on it." Him: *Proceeds to dunk on it* Me: *Content*
Legendia is my favorite game in the series but it’s super super flawed. I just fell so hard for the characters and I felt that they truly formed a found family better than other parties in the series. The history behind it kind of explains why it was what it was and I think it’s best summed up with: people would like it more if it wasn’t a tales game. It’s the black sheep!
hold up. can you get the alternate costumes shown in symphonia on gamecube?? what version is that. i knew there were unlockables but I never got them. i felt the game was long enough but Sheena's has me rethinking.
People who seriously think that Symphonia is good, let alone playable, are clearly delusional. The only thing I enjoyed about that game is the storyline. How are you going to make a 3 dimensional battlefield without the ability to run all around it while the enemy does have that ability? It’s garbage. I do like that Abyss was ranked #1, which alleviated me. One of the best games in the series with a great storyline and unforgettable characters.
I only got into tales because the artist did one of my favorite manga and series, and that's Oh! My goddess. But either way, my top five ranked best to worst are: Vesperia (the best PERIOD) Graces f Berseria Abyss Xillia 2
TOL is a mixed bag for sure but the OST is probably the GOAT of all Tales games. Abyss was the peak for me in the full package of story/gameplay/graphics and all that. The cameo battle in the Colosseum to this day is one of my fav battles in any JRPG. Tales games that came later still haven't topped it for me.
@Shaman Xeed the characters in graces are completely forgettable. I haven't played TOA in a decade and i remember most characters. I couldn't remember a TOG character if you had a gun to my head tbh.
@Shaman Xeed Not a fanboy of any tales game. All I said was I remember nothing from graces as it was a forgettable game and Im not the only one that feels that way. You can find all kinds of youtube reviews with similar statements. The story was bland, generic and forgettable. It wasn't even that long ago when I played it. Probably 5 years ago yet I cannot remember anything about it. But I remember games like TOL, TOS, TOA and many others vividly. Its because to me those games stood out to me and TOG didn't. I need to finish TOV admittedly. but TOG is bland as hell for me.
I never played a Tales Of game until I bought Vesperia for 360 a few months ago. I’m not too deep into it but enjoying it. As a FF fanboy it’s refreshing.
@@princefishyfingers7498 Maybe you don't understand why the shit game can on the Xbox PS4 NS PC Steam more Platforms , I know Vesperia is best tales game in Asia.😅
I really disagree with ranking Abyss as #1 especially above Symphonia. I think Symphonia beats out Abyss in every category you could imagine. Personally!
As for Tales of Eternia, the worlds of Celestia and Inferia were actually legit two different worlds by the end of the game as you might remember. Infact what kept the two worlds from colliding was the Orbus Barrier created by the God of Creation called Seyfert, who did this to stop the two worlds from destroying one another, we weren't just simply looking at two different continents, we were literally looking at two, full fledged worlds. That said, I can understand how you would confuse the game as being within what is scientifically called a "Dyson Sphere." which is basically a planet where instead of everything being on the mantle of the planet, it is inside with a sort of internal sun and the outer part of the planet is nothing but a solid shell. However Celestia and Inferia were still lit up by a nearby sun. While they shared the same sun, they were not infact sharing the same Sphere, they were each their own planet that was kept physically disconnected by the Orbus Barrier. Think of it as like two marbles or two balls kept separated by an energy barrier that each one was gently nestled against. Addendum: Seyfert created both worlds as we saw them, just the Orbus Barrier was something he put in place to keep them where they were probably as one of the physical embodiments of his gifts to all creation.
I'm a bit disappointed that Graces and Xillia weren't on the list, since they were my favorite next to Abyss. Still, I just started Symphonia Chronicles today and plan to finish it before the year's over. Can't wait to see if they live up to the hype.
I came into this prepared to be salty because I have pretty strong Tales opinions but I honestly can’t argue with this at all. Abyss is to this day by far my favourite, so I’m glad you ranked it 1st. The story was probably the most thought provoking and compelling of any Tales game to this day.
Nice video! I guess the fanbase of the Tales of Series is pretty devided, so i will state my opinion to my favourites :) My favourite Tales of Games are definitley Tales of Xillia 1/2. They include by far my most favourite characters of the series and i absolutely love the combat system. The second game have so many dual mystic artes and they are looking incredible good, furthermore i like the dark atmosphere. The different endings and interaction with the characters is very unique for the series as well, because you can choose answers. Not everything matters but its really entertaining. Iam also a big Fan of different Timelines and the second game give us so many "What if" scenarios in the Parallel Universes. the 2nd Place: Tales of Berseria. Tbh iam not the biggest Fan of the Battle system, but the story was very well written. It feels so much different because we dont have the regular formular of classic Heroes. In my opinion it was a great idea and execution to play as "Anti Heroes". Moreover it give us a different view about the origin of Zestiria. the 3rd Place: Tales of Vesperia. It was one of my first Games in the Series and i love the world building and characters. In addition: I like the philosophical aspect of the "true villain", because you can relate to his motives and even compare it to a simliar problem in our World. The battle system is known and very enjoyable. the 4th Place: Tales of the Abyss. (you said everything i like about this game, so i dont need to repeat it xD) the 5th Place: Tales of Graces. I think its a very underrated game because it offers a nice story about friendship. I love how the story starts in the childhood and we get more intel about every characters. The Battle system reminds me about berseria, but its better executed in my opinion.
Vesperia sucks badly compared to newer ones. Scoring is horrendous. Get negative score fr hard to hit bats cause team doesn't wipe them out n under 10 seconds with no damage. Xillia 1 & 2 are best tales games I've played. Hv to grind 10 levels higher than u think on most tales games, leading to boredom.
I've been collecting for the series for a while. I only just started Berseria. I like the characters, story, and world, but I'm having a hard time staying focused on the gameplay. I feel like the battles are too simple and "button-mashy." I'm only 15 hours in. Should I keep going? It looks like the other titles are more my style.
Almost turned the video off with Symphonia at 8, until you finished the title. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually enjoyed it. Yeah the main characters are annoying as hell, but if you can stick through the bad, it actually might be my favorite monster raising game as far as mechanics go. That part of the game is actually incredibly good.
Ima be honest, I love Tales of Legendia. But not for the actual game but because of the characters and music. I love the characters and the way they interacted. The dialogue was always interesting to me. Kudos to the composer for enhancing the game greatly.
I can't wait for Arise! I hope that: 1) The battle system will be refined even more 2) The story will be at least as dark as Berseria 3) Alphen won't be silent. He does look like Ludger, but please, give him an actual personality! 4) The game will have non-humanoid party members 5) The villain will be actually a good person at heart, only with goals incompatible with the MC's ones 6) The game won't have avatar creation. Alphen needs to be an actual character, not a default name for a non-character. 7) The game will have party members using firearms or bows. Playing as Raven in Vesperia was really cool. 8) There will be another great duel like Luke vs Asch or Yuri vs Flynn 9) The main characters' actions will require a great sacrifice 10) There will be a great betrayal in the party 11) The ending won't be happy. At all Even though all of this seems really unlikely.
i love the Tales series and your video David. Happy you like Abyss, I really tried, but this story man....I got so lost. :) still a great game though-. For me, Symphonia takes #1 Thanks for the awesome video, brought back some good memories
Awesome, thanks! I feel behind with the series and wasn't sure which ones to invest time in playing. I eagerly await your ranking of the next 10 games. Just give them another... 3 months and they'll probably pump out another 5 new games.
i think everyone's fave is subjective. anyone's absolute fave is usually the one they first beat, same is true for Zelda and Final Fantasy. the first game you beat is usually the one you'll defend and praise to your dying breath. me personally: Tales of Symphonia, Zelda Wind Waker, and i never beat a mainline FF game (though i was incredibly close with X; go to Jecht but kept getting creamed.). i beat some of it's spinoffs like Dissidia and Durge of Cerberus and pretty much all Kingdom Hearts, but i doubt those count.
Kingofmonsters14 Yeah absolutely true :) I finished Tales of Graces first, and its still my most favourite Tales game ( I loved Sophie )..after that I played lot of another Tales of games, but no one was so good for me to finish it
My top 10 tales games But first some info. I only play official translations no fan translation. I have played all official translated ones. Weridly Enough all of my top 10 are the ones I love so any not listed I don't like all that much. 10.Tales Of Xillia 9.Tales Of Xillia 2 8.Tales Of Legendia 7.Tales Of Eternia 6.Tales Of Symphonia 5.Tales Of Symphonia Dawn Of The New World 4.Tales Of Hearts R 3.Tales Of Zestiria 2.Tales Of Vesperia 1.Tales Of Graces F Dawn of the new world was My first tales game. Marta is My favorite tales Girl. Emil I like alot but not My favorite protagonist. I like Him cause He is very similar to how I am. I loved the whole aspect of monster collecting too.
5. Xillia 4. Abyss 3. Graces F 2. Vesperia 1. Symphonia (1st Tales game-GameCube!) Guys please don’t be forgetting Graces F, super shocked it isn’t in there and I know, the amount of “Ladder System” in the game made it annoying
I like Symphonia the best. Abyss has a better combat system and is closely behind Symphonia. It just something about Symphonia’s characters that I love and have a lasting impression on me. It was also my first which probably has a lot to do with it too.
Symphonia is the only one here that I`ve played. I finished it not that long ago. It was a pretty good game. I`ve also played Tales of Berseria as well but haven`t finished it yet. I`ll probably continue playing it after I finish Cold Steel 3 (Yes, I`m still playing through CS3).
Hi David! Just having both Trails & Publix in common I had to add you.. Small world!! I’m new to Tales of but I’ve been collecting.. So far got the Symphonia duology, Xillia 1&2, Vesperia and Beseria.. Thus far I’ve played a snippet of Symphonia & Vesperia.. I’m very impressed.. Series reminds me lots of YS actually..
I only recently got into the Tales games, and I have hardly played them. of the 4 I have played [I have symphonia, going to play at some point] 4. Zesteria... you can expect why, though I don't think it is as terrible as people say, it is pretty meh and it even has the 'first entry played in a series' buff and is still at the bottom 3. Abyss: While I agree the story was fantastic, I hated the overworld. Feels uninspired, boring, and a buggy mess [I had 2 crashes and 1 softlock while playing the game on 3ds] plus random broken bridges, the flying BS with the storms held it back a little. Left a sour taste in my mouth 2. Berseria. I enjoyed the story, it was really good, I liked the characters, and overall a very good time, and having played Zesteria before, things fell to place. 1. Vesperia. When I started playing the game this year, I could not put it down. I said I would stop playing after I beat the game, but then I felt compelled to do EVERYTHING [Spiral Draco, platinum achievement on ps4 levels of everything]. Combat and combinations were amazing, and the FFIX form of skill learning was a nice touch.
Zesteria is one of worse Tales games..You should also try Tales of Graces F (PS3),which is my best of all Tales games in my opinion..I fell in love with Sophie :)
11:20 - I forgot that Symphonia is a prequel to Phantasia. I really need to go back and play this one again. It's been too long, and this used to be something I'd play all the time (until Abyss came out and that became my go-to Tales of game).
I will never understand people's hatred for Luke. He was the only good characters in that game other than maybe Natalia. People complain about how Luke acted. He was a seven year old kid in a 17 year old's body out trying to save the world. A sheltered, rich seven year old kid. A kid who had to relearn everything (basic motor functions, talking, wiping his own ass, etc) while dealing with a body going through puberty. It's a miracle that that boy was able to function normally let alone fight in battles. So let's take this seven year old and put him in dangerous situations even though every person around him other than Anise and Natalia knew or suspected what he was. They'd talk shit behind his back and treat him like dirt then blamed him for willingly going into the arms of Van, the one person they didn't want him with as he was the bad guy. Van was one of the people Luke knew longest other than Guy and Natalia. Van was his teacher and mentor and in a time when all of his so called friends are treating him badly, treated him well. Like he had value and a purpose in life because well, he did. It wasn't Luke's fault at all, it was their's yet they took no responsibility for their actions and put all the blame solely on Luke. Had the team just been honest with Luke at that stage of the game, his character had progressed enough to believe them that Van was bad. Maybe not outright but enough to instill major doubt so that Luke would've thought twice about what Van was telling him had he decided to go back to him after what they told him. Yet that thought had never crossed any of their minds. It never occurred to them to sit down and discuss what was going on with Luke. So Luke acted just as any seven year old would when his friends are treating him badly, he went back to the one person he thought he could trust. Jade and Ion are perhaps the worst of the bunch. Jade being so much older and wiser than everyone else, or at least so he thought, was the one who pioneered the cloning technology. So he more than anyone other than maybe Ion would've known what Luke was dealing with. Yet he was one of the worst offenders with how he treated Luke. Ion was the same as Luke but knew what he was. So instead of using that very intimate knowledge to help guide Luke or the others in a better way to treat Luke, he did nothing. Luke was kind to Ion the entire time, even at his most childish and petulant but Ion couldn't be bothered to show any kindness back to him. So to me, the other main cast members are the ones that I hated. I had to put the game down for a while because I was so enraged by the stupidity in the story. Then when I did pick it back up they only started treating him worse which made me want to stop again but I trudged though it to the end at that point. It's still a good game and all but not my #1 first ten Tales of games if I were to choose a list of the ones I've played.
THANK YOU! THIS! Also not to mention, THEIR DUMB ASSES WERE ASSIGNED TO GUARDING HIM! They failed the job of being his bodyguard, they are more responsible than he is BECAUSE they knew better and were supposed to be watching him. They literally had ONE JOB when the bad thing happened and they failed it.
Tales of the Abyss is a coming of age story. People handing everything over to Luke on a silver platter would mean completely missing the point and blocking him from growing as a character. I get how annoying it would be for the audience, either to watch how everyone and their mothers berate Luke (when he doesn't know better) or Luke himself being the prime example of a pain in the ass. It's just that staying around to watch the conclusion is ultimately satisfying because the characters (ALL of them aside from the main antagonist) improve. You may be right, people are dumb for shitting so hard on Luke while he is nothing more than a socially inept brat, but then again, so is everyone that dismissed the whole Abyss story because the point of the whole damn thing just went over their heads and they never made any attempt to get it. Oh, and by the way, everyone being so harsh on Luke? That was not gratuitous, let's not act like he's a victim in all of this. The little shit never listened to anyone other than his mentor out of his own pride and stubornness, so it's not like all the hate was unwarranted either. He just owned up to his past deeds, got over it and grew up, which made him way more developed than 90% of the other "un-whining" Tales Of protagonists up to when this game was released.
@@zander3100 Uh dude, who said anything about handing everything to him on a silver platter? It was a coming of age story and I even spoke on it but I shouldn't have had to say it so plainly. I said that at that point in the story, his character was developed enough to have believed and understood what his friend would've told him about Van. Except they did the opposite of that and pushed him away. They were the ones to not take into account Luke's growing up in the story up until that point. It was obvious that he had grown up by that point. But the way they treated him during and after the events are what made him regress before he realized that they weren't ever grow up enough to take the responsibility for their fuck up and then took it upon himself. When he took responsibility it was one of the worst things he could've done. It wasn't his fault. He wasn't the one who did anything wrong in that scenario. It was everyone else but Natalia as they left her out of everything too. Had she known then she might've been the actual adult in the story and let Luke in on to what was really going on. You might think that people are missing the point of the story but they're not. It's just the fact that there's a huge gaping plot hole in it that derails the entire thing. They all knew what he was yet they chose to ignore it out of their own pride and stubbornness then blamed him. Bad writing is bad writing. The writers said that they were looking to make someone unlikable with Luke. They failed at this task. They made a character who was sympathetic when you look past what they were trying to shove in your face and see what was actually going on with Luke. Well, they might have actually succeeded in making an unlikable character it just wasn't Luke...or even Anise. It's Jade. He knew the most yet did and said the worst things to Luke. Jade's not funny because he's "sarcastic", he's literally a piece of shit. The way he treated someone he knew was only seven years old would be irredeemable in any other media or in real life. As ShadowWolfRising said above me: "He's literally SEVEN." No other aspect of the story and how anyone views Luke matters as much as this one point. And because of this one point, the story falls apart.
Y'all in this bitch saying "He's literally SEVEN" like that somehow makes him not accountable for his actions in a fantasy setting, especially after what happened when he did what he did lmao. Not how this trope works. He fucked up, that's a fact, but everyone (and Luke most of all) worked to repair the damage done after that. It's something as easy as suspending your disbelief. You could argue it didn't work since the characters were deliberately stupid just for plot's sake. I think it did, but it all boils down to a matter of perspective. And yes you should say how you "understood" it was a coming of age story clearer, when half of your posts sound like you throwing a temper tantrum because you didn't accept how the whole plot unfolded.
My top 10: 10. *Tales Legendia* 9. *Tales of Eternia* 8. *Tales of Xillia 2* 7. *Tales of Phantasia* 6. *Tales of Berseria* 5. *Tales of Xillia* 4. *Tales of Graces f* 3. *Tales of the Abyss* 2. *Tales of Vesperia* 1. *Tales of Symphonia* Here's hoping Arise moves back to the dungeon designs of earlier Tales games. As my ranking should suggest I'm really not a fan of the long corridor dungeons they've used since Xillia.
Most people said that Tales of Symphonia is like FFX, for me is FFX is like Tales of Graces f. I’m not a big fan of the FF franchise btw but Tales of Destiny has the Attachment discs which is like the Materia in FF7
@@TenchiHawkwing That is so pointless, should just include all tales game that have english version instead of just the first 10. Will dislike this vid.

Symphonia and abyss are the only ones that I can replay over and over again and never get bored of them

Swap Abyss and Vesperia and I agree. They had the best villains. Imo
Same bro same
And there is Jade.
Tales of Destiny was my first Tales game. I’m still looking forward to Destiny Director’s Cut translated into English 😃
Symphonia was my first one, fell in love with the series after that and Graces. Now I'm finally starting Vesperia.

Same just finished it a few days ago it's now tied with vesperia as my favorite
Played Symphonia and Vesperia already?
Love the Tales of franchise. Keep making great videos.
I think Abyss is where the Tales series peaked in story, don't really know if any other title will top it.
I think Abyss is really polarizing because it requires you to like Luke fon Fabre. And sometimes, that’s hard.
Vesperia is actually awesome and so is Xillia
@@DaemonDesiree I mean the whole thing with Abyss is you're not really meant to like Luke at first but as the story progresses he gets so much better which is why people obviously enjoy the game so much
Vesperia
It will always be my favorite one, hands down! The story still hits me to this day 😭
I kind-of feel the need to come to the defence of Legendia here.
1. Abyss
2. Symphonia
3. Destiny
4. Berseria
5. Vesperia.
Good for you
Ranking my favorite Tales games that i've played so far, would have to go:
Abyss
Vesperia
Symphonia
Phantasia
Hearts
Berseria
Radiant Mythology
Zestiria
Luke was SO annoying but it was nice to see his character change. I also love the God Generals and Ion. He’s my favourite NPC in any Tales. Not sure why, he’s just adorable.
Also, the ending of Abyss gets you.
I want Ion and Laphicet to meet and be friends
I actually have a soft spot for Legendia, even though I know it's not great. That is, of course, until the character quests. In addition to the lack of voice acting, it's paced horribly, and somehow, the dreadul Waterways is even worse, and it's one of the first dungeons you have to return to! Although the CQs have their bright moments (especially the end of Moses' quest - a must watch for every dog lover out there), I usually end my session after beating Nerifes.
Legendia have one of the best cast in the series.
The characters interact very well between them.
The characters quest are good.
I liked the chloe, moses, will and norma
Legend has one of my favorite Tales of sound tracks if not my favorite.
1. Tales of Eternia (Alot this game introduced! from hidden abilities, to team attacks, customization, and just various tropes like skits)
2. Tales of Vesperia (I really liked the characters, the story, and I think this one really nailed down the 3D combat first! Also
Best three for me are Eternia, Fantasia and Abyss😀 We have similar taste.
Abyss all the way! The story and gameplay were magnificent! I never got to own it for PS2, just rented it and played it for hours on end. I do own it for 3DS though, but I *hope* it'll get a remaster one day with updated graphics, gameplay and even voiced skits in English!
For me Tales of Phantasia will always be #1

Legendia is my favorite game in the series but it’s super super flawed. I just fell so hard for the characters and I felt that they truly formed a found family better than other parties in the series. The history behind it kind of explains why it was what it was and I think it’s best summed up with: people would like it more if it wasn’t a tales game. It’s the black sheep!
am i the only one that liked Dawn of the New World as much as Symphonia?

I'm half way through Bersaria right now, and Zestiria at the same time lol Fantastic games

@Shaman Xeed graces was forgettable. Played tov. It was ok. Still prefer abyss.
@Shaman Xeed uh huh. And graces is dull.
I like tales more than ff cause it fleshes out the characters more plus better combat

I feel like nobody's really talking about Tales of the world radiant mythology. That's the game that really hook me up with the tales series.
Nice video! I guess the fanbase of the Tales of Series is pretty devided, so i will state my opinion to my favourites :)
My favourite Tales of Games are definitley Tales of Xillia 1/2.
(you said everything i like about this game, so i dont need to repeat it xD)
the 5th Place: Tales of Graces.
Did tempest get a US digital release? Because I know it never got a physical release.
It got a fan patch, but don't play it. It's the only game in the franchise that's really, really bad.
I've been collecting for the series for a while. I only just started Berseria.
I like the characters, story, and world, but I'm having a hard time staying focused on the gameplay. I feel like the battles are too simple and "button-mashy."
I'm only 15 hours in.

Just for me.
Tales of the Abyss is my personal favourite as well. Then it’s a tie between Symphonia and Xillia 2.
Really wish Phantasia would get a remake, just modern graphics with still similar combat(but no random encounters anymore) would be good enough.
I can't wait for Arise!
I hope that:
1) The battle system will be refined even more
2) The story will be at least as dark as Berseria
3) Alphen won't be silent. He does look like Ludger, but please, give him an actual personality!
4) The game will have non-humanoid party members
5) The villain will be actually a good person at heart, only with goals incompatible with the MC's ones
6) The game won't have avatar creation. Alphen needs to be an actual character, not a default name for a non-character.
7) The game will have party members using firearms or bows. Playing as Raven in Vesperia was really cool.
8) There will be another great duel like Luke vs Asch or Yuri vs Flynn
9) The main characters' actions will require a great sacrifice
10) There will be a great betrayal in the party
11) The ending won't be happy. At all
Even though all of this seems really unlikely.
I really love Tales of Berseria, but my favorite tales of game is vesperia
Have you played Tales of Innocence R on Vita? Maybe you didn’t mention it because it’s not yet released in English.

i think everyone's fave is subjective. anyone's absolute fave is usually the one they first beat, same is true for Zelda and Final Fantasy. the first game you beat is usually the one you'll defend and praise to your dying breath.

I only recently got into the Tales games, and I have hardly played them. of the 4 I have played [I have symphonia, going to play at some point]
4. Zesteria... you can expect why, though I don't think it is as terrible as people say, it is pretty meh and it even has the 'first entry played in a series' buff and is still at the bottom
3. Abyss: While I agree the story was fantastic, I hated the overworld. Feels uninspired, boring, and a buggy mess [I had 2 crashes and 1 softlock while playing the game on 3ds] plus random broken bridges, the flying BS with the storms held it back a little. Left a sour taste in my mouth
That was the version that I did play.
Zesteria is one of worse Tales games..You should also try Tales of Graces F (PS3),which is my best of all Tales games in my opinion..I fell in love with Sophie :)
Honestly, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you give Tales of Eternia a try. Fantastic game.
11:20 - I forgot that Symphonia is a prequel to Phantasia. I really need to go back and play this one again. It's been too long, and this used to be something I'd play all the time (until Abyss came out and that became my go-to Tales of game).
Tales of symphonia was my first Tales Game. Loved it very much!
I'm not sure if you can really call Star Ocan competitor since it was made by the same people.
Unless you meant popularity...
Merry Christmas mate, keep up the great vids and I'll keep watching from sunny Australia.
On some REALLLL shit. Have you ever seen a kangaroo or a giant spider
@@zander3100 He's literally SEVEN.
As ShadowWolfRising said above me: "He's literally SEVEN."
No other aspect of the story and how anyone views Luke matters as much as this one point.
My top 10:
10. *Tales Legendia*
9. *Tales of Eternia*
8. *Tales of Xillia 2*
7. *Tales of Phantasia*
6. *Tales of Berseria*
5. *Tales of Xillia*
4. *Tales of Graces f*
3. *Tales of the Abyss*
2. *Tales of Vesperia*
1. *Tales of Symphonia*
Here's hoping Arise moves back to the dungeon designs of earlier Tales games.
Im surprised you not put vesperia on the list, its so damn good
Did you even pay attention? He's ranking the first 10 games that came out in English. Vesperia is not one of them.
@@TenchiHawkwing What ? There are english version for modern Tales game, all of them.
@@askkedladd Do you know what first means?
@@TenchiHawkwing That is so pointless, should just include all tales game that have english version instead of just the first 10. Will dislike this vid.
@@askkedladd No skin off my back, it's not my video. But next time, before getting so upset... pay attention to what the video says. He set proper expectations at the start.
Tales of Rebirth is super underrated in my opinion.
