@@712mook Love both venues Mark ,got great memory's of Elinor as won both my English national bank titles there Edd runs it really well, and Grafham won my 2nd England cap and was the fist place I fished with my Dad many years ago! still love it as much today as I did back in 1969!

So right about not trying for that last 10 ft. As dear old Lefty Kreh used to say, no point in getting that nice loop going on the false casts, only to wreck it by trying to huck the line into the next zip code on the delivery stroke. Roll casting is great in tight spots, against trees, etc. There's nothing to stop you going the whole hog and using a lightweight double hander and spey casting in situations like that. I like to do that on the dam at Grafham, where the wall behind you can make a back cast difficult, especially when the water level is low.

So right Laurie about the Dam wall, was fishing there once when I was quite young and snapped the barb off on the back cast, did not know until I lost the 4th one! did not do that again! lol

Hi Leigh, thanks for all of the great content, it’s very informative. Just one quick question, what distance are you casting with that double haul? Also when you say a whole line... Is that literally down to where it joins the backing?! Cheers and keep up the great work

yep 30 yards is achievable 40 yards with an air flow distance or expert but you do need the wind behind you admittedly lol! you can still get a good line out into the wind by double hauling but would struggle to shoot 30 yards! I have seen Rob Edmonds chuck 50 years off the bank with a home made shooting head, we measured it on the bank as I did not believe it!! Some of the bank fishing matches distance is of the utmost importance as the fish normally move out due to the disturbance in the afternoon.

Wind from the wrong side, practice casting with the right hand over left shoulder this method won't give you the maximum distance but saves the acrobatics. This method is also useful for boat fishing on the engine end as it saves casting the flies over your partners head in the prow of the boat.

Yes Richard your right but I have tried this a few times and you defo loose a lot of distance by casting backwards you can double haul and really push a line out with practice I have found using the method Tim demonstrated, never liked using your method in the boat the trouble is you do catch your boat partner on the odd occasion when your on the engine casting right handed but feels unnatural to me any other way!? best way is to learn to cast left and right handed like Lloyd Pallet !!! lol How are you doing anyway mate have not seen you for ages? how is Rib doing? was looking to do a 'You Tube' vid on the water?
