    6:08 how interesting. As a learner fly angler (but experienced course, carp and pike angler) I did exactly this when playing my first rainbow the other day and thought it was a major novice move as I'm still getting used to the fly rod/line set-up, being very different to how we play fish on fixed spool reels. Glad to see an 'expert' doing the same thing! The line-bite retreave 😂Great video. Tight lines!

    Dear sir
    I've been finishing for a while. I've been watching a video of yours on how to set up a washing line. Could you please give me some idea on how long the droppers are?
    I've fished the river and lakes, and they seem to get knotted up. How can I get over this .
    Yours faithfully Mr Michael Burnett

    I went out with the best intentions of using your method one cast and the line was like a bowl of spaghetti tried untangling more than I did fishing. Think I'll trim this down a good 8 foot 🤣

      Lol when you get used to fishing long leaders its no problem really, but all of the time its either from a drifting boat so the wind is always behind you or off a bank with the wind in your favour, into the wind is asking for trouble but can be done with stopping the cast short so that it turns over or a heavy point fly to archive the same, either way into the wind with a big team you will loose some distance

      Yep for sure worked really well the last few years as for some reason the fish have stayed high in the water all year!!??

    Do you use tapered leader or could one use 8lb through out the entire setup. Please advise everyone.

      We laid our dearest friend Leigh to rest yesterday and he will be missed by so many but he always uses 8lb through out and never a tapered leader. Thanks for watching TroutwithLeigh... Trevor Lugmayer

    Hi Leigh, thanks for this excellent film. I dont understand how you can play a fish on a twenty foot leader without the bottom dropper fly getting trapped in the last eye of the rod. Im a dumbass i know but i cant work it out 😂

  • @roddytoo

    If your leader is 22 feet with 6 feet to the top dropper, top dropper to point is 16 feet, how do you manage to net a fish on the point fly?

    Nice vids leigh i have a question m8 do u always fish 2 boobys or can u use one on the point? Also is the retrieve a slow figure 8 or do u just cast out and take the slack in and let it drift? Im new to learning it Tia dazz

    • @leighpond5928
      @leighpond5928 4 роки тому +1

      To be honest mostly a single booby on the point but if the fish are high in the water 2 booby's can be deadly! The retrieve is again dependent on what the fish are feeding on and the conditions play a big part in the retrieve, if the fish are hard on the buzzers early season I would fish them static but figure of eight would be my preferred retrieve but keep changing the speed of it until it goes tight! changes from day to day mix it up until you find the speed that suits the day, hope this helps

    Hi Leigh, what length do you use for your droppers on the washing line?

    • @leighpond5928
      @leighpond5928 4 роки тому +1

      Not as long as some! probably about 8 to10 inches nearer 8 than 10 to be honest longer seems to twist and tangle more!

      Wow lot of different opinion's on this one!!! depends on there sponsors really lol but I would think the top 3 would be Snowbee, Air flow rocket, and the cortland 333 peach, my choice would be Snowbee or though i have just ordered an airflow rocket as we have a contact in the 'Dogs' team that gets them at a great price for us! had some great reports on this line!

    Why don't you wet your hands before handling and returning fish. Elementary if you don't want to kill fish unnecessarily.
