Thanks for the video! A day late for me lol! I just bid a shrub removal and small tree removal project. It was 3 shrubs and a 10 year old Japanese maple. as well as 2.5 yards of fresh red fir bark dust. $750 for the project including disposal. Bid got declined for being to expensive.. sometimes people don’t understand what it takes to get a project done. On to the next! Don’t let clients control your pricing. I’ve learned that the hard way more than once hah!
Whenever you take out a tree or bush close to a water line and house, the roots are going to be difficult. I bid higher on projects like that, also I have the homeowner sign off of no fault to in-service line damage. I have used trucks to old school jacks to lift the root system. Good job..
Here in Scotland we just jack out stumps and smaller trees and bushes like what you done here with Hi lift jacks. Very quick and efficient. Good video👍🌲
I've seen you do a lot other things and most of the time you really impress me with the way you work and all that but I gotta say all you needed there was a shovel and an axe, it kinda seemed like you complicated things more that you actually needed to, anyway I'll keep watching your vids man thanks.
Keith, when you cut the roots with dirt on it it eats the blades 3x faster Make sure u can dig some dirt off the roots and then go for the roots itself, you will save blades in the long run
Another thing you can use instead of sawzall is corona bypass loppers- dive them down into the dirt until you feel larger 1” roots, snip 2 or 3 of those, pull with the truck and your good boys 🤙
I don’t waste my time on shrubs by cutting them I just stump grind them and they fall apart faster and easier in and out hole job that size 1 hour $600
great vlog! thanks for sharing! $175/hr isn't bad yet I know expenses decrease the gross profit. You won't make that as an employee for anyone else! unless you are an MD or JD, I suppose! Also, are those blades meant to cut through earth material or just direct wood contact? that might be a reason for rapid blade dulling, ya think? I do this type of work for my rental properties but it wouldn't be a bad side gig! again, great share!
Not sure if you have done this, I know you are big into audio books but do you have a list of your favorites posted somewhere. Like top 20 or top 50 ect. I'm trying to listen to more when I'm driving or running equipment. Thanks for the great videos.
That looked painful! But I can say, been there done that. I sometimes find internet/tv cable and fiber optic cables in the landscape beds when I'm doing shrub removal, so I'm really careful with the Sawzall.
The progression of the quality of your content is inspiring it was almost as if I was on the job with you. Also you have a high level of self awareness when it comes to your emotions on a job
Keith, Bosch also makes a good tree pruning blade that I use all the time from Menards. I get 5 blades for like $20. Also never rule out the use of C-4 or thermite. That will work. Also you could use Napalm but Napalm might not be the best option for this job. And napalm is not hare to make. lol Just google the receipt. Have a nice day. I also just got the bid to tear down a garage!!! Big payday coming. Just waiting for the permit.
Completely unrelated topic but I feel like you would understand. do you ever feel like you're work uniform is your Superman suit? I know plenty of other guys in my industry that just wear their regular clothes to work but ever since I started always felt like when I put on my blue polo shirt tucked in with my dickie pants that it's just full systems go and it really puts me in a work mindset. I know you're well aware of the power of branding I was just wondering if you ever have thought about your uniform like that?
Keith, love your humor and quirky attitude. I would have chainsawed flush to start and used a larger stump grinder, still gonna be roots in the bed during replant. IMHO.
I like to dig up the roots so I can see them and then cut them with a sawzall or an axe! Blades last longer for me that way. That tow rope is super cool too
Harbor freight sells a 2000 lb portable marine winch. With enough pulleys you can double or triple that or even quadruple it. Its under $100 and worth every penny. You can hook it to your hitch or another tree trunk or anything solid even in back yards. I use the dump trailers battery. Works great when you have limited pulling space for the truck.
I use a winch but its mechanical, Wyeth scott more power puller. Its 6000lb single line or 12000lb double. That plus a high lift jack I have yet to fail.
Just dig and look were the roots are. A shovel don't bite. Then use an axe and then pull it out. You take a risk with your car. Thats a cute grinder, use a little better one, kind of 13 hp is good enough for this kind of work. Or use a mini crane for this kind of work. (or somebody with a mini crane... ) A few years ago I kept al that kind of jobs till one day when i rent a good stump grinder.
Hahaha. Yew shrubs are the harderst to dig out. Been there! They are actually trees that can be maintained as small shrubs. I have seen them grow 30 ft in the north east.
Love your videos!! Corona Makes Solid Steel Shovels, that make cutting manually through roots easy. Also, Ditcher attachment on Dingo works for me every time.
Another cool trick is to get a shovel dig down 8" around the small tree just enough to get a top handle chainsaw in the hole then get a garden hose and wash off all dirt then cut with top handle chainsaw. It works better with small trees than shrub,s. I like you sawzall trick that,s cool.
A dingo or a bobcat MT with the proper chain would of made the job go a lot faster maybe an hour. Plus that way the root ball would be gone and you can plant something in its place. Right now you can’t even get a shovel in the ground there.
Thats true 1200lb is not exactly worthy of being hooked up to a truck but he also didnt have anything heavy attached to it like a D shackle. I use synthetic winch line as it doesnt store energy and snap back if it brakes.
You can always lay a blanket or heavy jacket over a rope, cable etc. If your worried about it snapping. It absorbs the energy and will hopefully keep it from doing to much damage.
I lift it up after getting one side cut and cut the other side. Pops right up 15 min. And for the shrubs.. I use a pick axe and loppers. 45 min tops the whole job. We should talk
Gotta be a bit more aggressive with the truck. I usually back up and then hit the gas quick and go forward, if it doesn't pop out, do it again and again until it comes out..usually does the trick..quick yanks instead of steady tension seems to work well for me at least. I do have a f250 diesel though so its a bit heavier of a truck than urs

I think it’s time for you to start a channel Jill it sounds like you have a lot of insight for the rest of us!
sounds very used car salesman to me😂
no fault waiver smh be good at what you do

Get a Diablo blade and you’ll never go back :) try the carbide tips only.
#1 Rule always call Dig Safe before u remove anything around foundations etc

Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. That's why you are a pro and have all the necessary tools to get er done! Well done Keith!
Gardening Goof IS Keith Kalfas.

Smart
THANK YOU A TON FOR THIS ACTUALLY PERFECT TIMING TOO JUST ABOUT TO BID ON A SIMILAR PROJECT YOUR VIDEOS HELP OUT A LOT KEEP IT UP!!
Big fan of the positivity no matter what! Keep on doing the funny garden goof skits
Love the garden goof
Keith, have you ever had any issues hitting buried wires/lines when using the sawzall to cut around the shrub? Great idea!

Did you remove the roots after using the stump grinder?

Love the gardening goof! It could be it’s own channel
Have you ever hit a wire or some thing you didn’t want to hit as you were sawing around the base of the tree?
That looked painful! But I can say, been there done that. I sometimes find internet/tv cable and fiber optic cables in the landscape beds when I'm doing shrub removal, so I'm really careful with the Sawzall.
The progression of the quality of your content is inspiring it was almost as if I was on the job with you. Also you have a high level of self awareness when it comes to your emotions on a job
Should try a pix axe and a thicker strap that has loops on both ends. Go a lot faster
I use my mower in areas a truck can't reach. Smooth tires for mowing treaded ones for ripping shrubs. Also wetting the soil prior too pull helps.
Keith, Bosch also makes a good tree pruning blade that I use all the time from Menards. I get 5 blades for like $20. Also never rule out the use of C-4 or thermite. That will work. Phased plasma rifle in the 40 Watt range is good for especially stubborn roots.
@@mroctober3657Might be a little excessive, da Uzi 9 millimeter should work just fine.
More gardening goof !

This dude gonna help me make alot of big money this spring
Keith, love your humor and quirky attitude. I would have chainsawed flush to start and used a larger stump grinder, still gonna be roots in the bed during replant. IMHO.
Do you use the pruning blades, wood blades, or wood with nails type blades for your sawzall?
I remember MY first time buying anything from Harbor Freight....
Awesome .....I use a Sawzall and an 2,000lb engine hoist for pulling up shrubs etc.
Kieth, you ever try presoaking the ground to get it saturated? Curious if that is a good technique to help loosen soil. Agree on the Diablo blades.
I like to just use loppers for roots like this. Shove them in and chomp down on the roots
Nice boots bro. Those look professional af. ✨
I like to dig up the roots so I can see them and then cut them with a sawzall or an axe! Blades last longer for me that way. That tow rope is super cool too

I’m gonna have to look into that
I use a winch but its mechanical, Wyeth scott more power puller. Its 6000lb single line or 12000lb double. That plus a high lift jack I have yet to fail.
I like the dumping part, but I did like the first shrub, I could not leave it behind, too cute.

Do you still use a chipper for the debris?
I work at the plant that makes the Diablo blades
Hahaha. Yew shrubs are the harderst to dig out. Been there! They are actually trees that can be maintained as small shrubs. I have seen them grow 30 ft in the north east.
Even with this going against plans, you still beat the traditional method.
I’ve pulled a few bushes out before and I’ve never had one not come out 02 2500 Duramax I use a tow strap and a sling
Great tutorial like video but, what can you do to stream line this process for the future. Such if you weren’t there?
Says the guy cutting thru dirt
Love your videos!! Corona Makes Solid Steel Shovels, that make cutting manually through roots easy. Also, Ditcher attachment on Dingo works for me every time.
Nice work man. Any advice on how I can get a dump trailer like that?
Give me more gardening Goof

Nice job! Sticking with it is the key!
Diablo blades are the only way to go brother!
Diablo pruning blades are by far the best. M18 would've been better too lol
Yea thats what I was thinking I usually use a corded zaw zall because it goes through batteries real fast..
Have you ever tried using the engine lift method? Looks like it works on videos on
UA-cam 🤔🤔🤷♂️👍✌️
Pruning blades from home depot work pretty good
I use a hi lift jack and lift them straight out the ground
What do you do with shrubs that are inaccessible with the truck? Say in the backyard and you can't tie the shrub to the truck.
A dingo or a bobcat MT with the proper chain would of made the job go a lot faster maybe an hour. Plus that way the root ball would be gone and you can plant something in its place. Right now you can’t even get a shovel in the ground there.
Yea or an excavator why eff around.
Nothing ever goes to plan. I was getting anxiety worrying about the rope snapping and blowing out one of those windows.
Thats true 1200lb is not exactly worthy of being hooked up to a truck but he also didnt have anything heavy attached to it like a D shackle. I use synthetic winch line as it doesnt store energy and snap back if it brakes.

@@Sargeantyardpros Thanks for the tip! We use our excavator to pull stuff like that out, a lot easier lol.
@@Chris-bn5cv I’m sure that is lol
Just Dont use that rope line for climbing. Be safe. Good work
Do some of your customers get upset when they see you pulling the shrubs out with a truck or do you let them know ahead of time?
Is there a web page where jobs are posted that you bid on?
Shovel and a folding hand saw gets it out no problem
I lift it up after getting one side cut and cut the other side. Pops right up 15 min. And for the shrubs.. I use a pick axe and loppers. 45 min tops the whole job. We should talk
At least you're in a good mood ✌👍
You the man i love your personality bro !!
I appreciate that! Thank u
@@keith-kalfas I need your course let me know how much it is please.
Problem is that Sawzall is too little u need the big boy........ big papa will make quick work of that root ball.
Sometimes you gotta put in “work”
Yeah dawg!
wouldnt a bobcat pluck these out with little issues?

You should really learn a couple knots if you don't already know them, bowline, running bowline, bowline with a bite.
I like the Goof. don't like the hf blades u use
Nice to see the Harbor Freight I go to in this video lol.
Where do you get your roap and carbine from ?
Yew bushes and trees are a lot more dense then people think
What do you charge for pulling shrubs?
Be careful your towball doesn't fly off and hit your helper mate.
Rich in all aspects of life. Have you heard of FIRE?
You need to use a farm jack... :)
Hey Keith these crackhead landscapers need to see this video so they could stop charging $250!!
These r some of the hardest plants to remove
KK EVERYDAY
Clean the base with a pick atleast a little. And bro you got the grinder bust it out
What is the battrey tool he is using? What's it called us there a makita version in UK?
I end up using my stihl saw and blunting it . That batrey saw looked good as a back up to help
Milwaukee hackzall. Just a one handed reciprocating saw, not sure if Makita has anything like it over in the uk
Try the wood and nails blade it will last longer
If you used a towing strap or chains you would have been able to pull the whole thing out and not needed a stump grinder.
Nice
Awesome!!!
I used the dewalt blades and cut out some 18 year old shrubs
Do you call it a Sawzaa?
I have a 12k winch on my truck. itll pull anything out
You're a comical dude
You need a Bobcat.
Sharpshooter shovel would help alot
A Maddox and a little muscle would have been much easier and cheaper
Should of used a chain & a real truck
For sure! Did you see how much that rope was stretching? Useless.
Take that truck cover off man you can fit your stump grinder back there
