Good information Andy. Iam sure it will help some people in the future.
Yes Fred, with this update I was able to find the bathroom. hahaha. That being said, a lot of folks are having major customer service issues and update issues.
This is a warning about "Lifetime Maps". Magellan defines "lifetime" as 3 years, and not as the lifetime of the device. This is dishonesty on their part, because they know that normal people will take as the lifetime of the devise.
Wow, that is incredible.
on to garmin or tomtom then. if this is true.
FYI, Garmin says that if a device has not had a software or map upgrade within 24 months, that it is deemed to be obsolete and the map upgrading is disabled.
Yes, it is true. I tried logging on to the server many times and got "Server busy, try later." To Magellan later means never.
its the same thing with warranties. If you want a real lifetime warranty you need to look for an unlimited warranty.
HEYNOW ~ Cool Guide : i Purchased my first Gps - Magellan ‘ 4/27/07 ‘ and never had any issues ..... My Second = Magellan Roadmate 5045 is showing a Connect to Computer icon 💻 I don’t have Lifetime maps & before i connect, figured I search before doing / applying any type of fix or download 🤔 Either way Thanx 4 Posting 🇵🇹
All the best with your software repair. Let me know how you make out.
Andy Tobin 👌
Interesting thank you for sharing Andy
Thanks for watching Shaun. All is well here my friend. Thinking of you often and I hope you are having a great summer. We had a real nice summer with lots of family visiting and loads of outdoor activities. I am happy to say that we had an exceptional year for bike riding as well. I am hoping to get to ride well into October or later. Of course I'll be dressing a bit warmer then.
@@Tobinindustrial hi Andy we had a really hot summer here which is unusual for us I ended up in the garden in my mankini which isn't a pretty sight now days hope you and your family are keeping well doing ok here . I will get round to doing some videos eventually. Anyway thank you for sharing the video and take care my friend
Shaun the last time you wore that mankini you got arrested. I am not paying the bail money this time.
@@CB-RADIO-UK you will pay Fred I still have the pictures of you in yours
Blast you said you had burned them. That was the crazy night we ended up at the Pink Flamingo Bar. I still wake up with shivers about what we saw.
You need to turn your car's blinker off....Great Video!!
That "blinker" is my antique wall clock pendulum. LOL. Thank you for supporting my channel Sir!
Please, Let me know if you can fix Magellan GPS?
I can fix some isues with these GPS units.
I have an older Magellan RoadMate, but I don't know the model. How can I find that out and would I possibly be able to upgrade my GPS?
The unit should have it's model name on the back of the device in small print. If not, then you will have to plug it in and go into the settings to se if you can locate the model information in the menu.
As for updating the unit, it may be too old with outdated firmware and not enough memory to host the updated Magellan programs.
I have come to realize that once your lifetime updates are expired, it can sometimes be more practical to buy a new unit on sale rather than pay the updating fee.
I hope this information is of some help to you.
Thank You
on the web dot detectet my divice ????/
They may have tweaked the online program recently.
my computer not recognize the item ,the computer works with windows10 is that the problem?
Did you set up an account with Magellan? Did you go into the program with your GOS plugged in by USB? Did the program recognize the GPS? Was there a free update available? It is step sensitive how you go about all this but the key to it all is to register your unit and have the proper program on your computer to interface with the GPS. I wish I was there to help my friend. It is not simple but not too difficult. You have to wait for the program to move forward to each step without interruption as well. Truthfully, they could have done a better job with the upgrading program. It could have been a bit simpler but I suspect they were striving to prevent people hacking free updates. Good luck and God bless you.
@@Tobinindustrial YES, maybe the item is too old is a NEW RoadMate 1424 (2009)
@@super-yuls Never too old. You need to get Magellan's SmartGPS Tool. The Eco will never recognize your device. The tool works perfectly and uses your Magellan log in info.
@@MJLLC2000 I have a 4 year old GPS and I have been meaning to update it but where I live in a rural area, much of the updates will not effect me. I am registered with Magellan but I have a new laptop and I don't have the Magellan program downloaded. I will see how it goes but you are right. There will always be minimal updates offered to my GPS to keep it running.
bruh my gps isnt letting me update the map 😭
Is it one of the fewLifetime updates that you are entitled to? I only got two updats on mine and then the rest were availble through pay only.
I would hate to have go back to reading a map now after you had a gps.
Yes, I agree
I have a 5520 Roadmate. The SMART GPS doesn't recognize the memory. 'Insufficient memory error' Its a new GPS, very frustrating. So much for 'life time' maps guaranteed.
Terrible service from Magellan. Other than a few updates, I have had no contact from them.
Magellan gps very good, only one mistake, ,distance figure very small ,top left corner
I've usd Garmin befoe but prefer the Magellan layout better. You are right, the distance figure is a bit small.
You should always buy Garmin
I've used Garmin before but prefered the functionality of the Magellan. YOu are most likely right that Garmin is a better product with better customer service. Have you ever used Tom Tom? I have not but I may have a look at one some day.
@@Tobinindustrial My brother had one and he liked it very much, I had an older one that I was given and I didn't like it. The garmin is so much simpler and the customer service is so much better. I have used Garmin maybe 15 years or so and wouldn't use anything else.
I remember they had a class action lawsuit against them
Interesting, I did not know that. Lifetime updates would seem to indicate a long time and not just 2 or 3 years.
Does not work
Many people are having trouble with the program but I always manage to get my updates. It is not a user friendly update program for sure.
@@Tobinindustrial it does not say you have updates so therefore, when I hit updates, nothing happens.
When I bought it it said free upgrades for like. My ass.
Time to move on I believe. This gps was sentimental to me. Still performed as needed. But logged in today to update 2019 is the latest. Very ridiculous. Paid extra for lifetime.
I wish even if I had to pay say 5.00 for a current update I would be fine with that. Use it 5 times a year.
I am still using mine with litle issue since I have no recent updates. You are very right that the charge for an update is too much. I'd be willing to pay about $40.00 CAD maximum for an update. I think the update is $99.00 USD which is about $130. CAD
@@Tobinindustrial I think I will keep using it, in combination with Google.
@@ryans9557 yeah, you may as well get as much use out of it as possible. I am surprised that somebody has not hacked the system and provided a cheat site yet. It may exist now but we have not found the site.
@@Tobinindustrial I agree 👍
Do not buy a Magellan GPS they do not stand behind their Warranty
I am hearing that a lot lately.
terrible
Detrimental.
