Is your hard drive showing signs of wear and tear? need to check for bad sectors on that hard drive to see if the bad sectors need to be fixed or repair? well you can really repair bad sectors, but what you can do is detect bad sectors, the hide them so windows does no attempt to read or write to that part of the drive that has bad sectors. Bad sectors can cause crashing, BSOD and Hard Drive Errors.

How to Deal with Bad Sectors on Hard Drive
First you will need to create a bootable flash drive with HDAT2 on it, then enable IDE in the BIOS and run scans on the hard drive for bad sectors.

      His britech
I have a bare bones basic bios
      On my Compaq cq60
      I had windows 7 32 bit running
It was a 250 gig hard disk with 2 partitions
Since it was a fresh install my c drive was full so I decided to use easeus recovery to extend the partition
It was going well and after shrinking my second partition to extend my c drive it
      Showed the usual progress bar
Then it rebooted a few times and showed no os installed I thought it probably bricked my os so o decided to get my win7 installer again and it got stuck in the windows logo
Then I had a win10 1709 usb which didn't get stuck in the logo and showed the entire drive as unallocated
And it wouldn't let me format or fox teh hard drive bcs it kept giving me I/0 error redundancy cyclic something
I got a live Linux OS running on a usb and Linux helped me recover some of my data
But Linux couldn't format the drive
So I decided to use the hard disk test from the bios and that failed immediately
      Any help would be appreciated
(I'm currently running Linux on a 32 gig memory card and it is extremely slow I was hoping if I can get some help)

@@Britec09brian i have a ps4 that cannot check system storage. Im assuming its a bad hdd and needs replacing. The problem is i have 100’s of saved videos on that drive from game play on fifa or gta that i cannot afford to lose. If i connect it to my laptop can i recover that data before doing a factory reset on my ps4. What programme is free that i can use for this?

There are logical errors or phisical damaged errors on HDD Surface, we can fix logical errors with chkdsk f/r or use diferent programs, for keep our data & fix it (HDD regenerator, spinrite) for me is use a low level format (Samsung hutil,wd dlife, victoria, vivard) and if the issue can't solve is replace hdd, thanks britec for this tutorial

In my book a bad sector is a HDD that's starting it's journey to the graveyard. So therefore I would recommend replacing instead. Consumer grade HDD's are utterly unreliable anyway in comparison to SSD's. When you really need big storage, always use one as backup and replace them within 3(-5) years.

That's bad luck then. I have 3 1TB hdds with 10 years with over 60000 hours of use all working good, I have a 160GB IDE HDD working good too, I then have 2 laptop HDDs with some bad sectors also working good for 5+ years. In my main PC I have 3 HDDs, two with 2~ years and one with 10 years. all of these are working good, so for me consumer HDDs ARE reliable
