- Karla Black is one of the contemporary artists that was featured in Tate Britain's 'Watercolour' exhibition.
But her approach to the medium is unorthodox. Mixing paint with other materials such as nail-varnish, vaseline, and body lotion she creates unique sculptural forms. She talked to TateShots about her process, and showed us her latest work at her studio near Glasgow.
Karla Black is one of my absolute favorite sculptors right now. Her work is baffling and beautiful at the same time. Seeing her studio is also quite a shock though -- it's not at all what I'd imagined she'd work in. She's surprising on all fronts.
An incredible demonstration with deep roots to the languages of Serra’s Process verbs, Pollocks Horizontality, Impressionistic colour, cubist line, minimalisms form, sculptural weight, architectural mass, site specificity, viewer activation, structure, symbol, icon and index. Fantastic.

@PicassoStar1: English accent?
@PicassoStar1: Scottish accent!
@GoldenRatio2 I suspect I guessed wrong about the accent...could you set me straight? Should I have said "British accent" LOL?
It s a joke?.....Es por eso que habla a empujones ,no hay mucho que decir ...
Och aye the noo
seriously? really?
From an American point of view her English accent makes her work sound intellectual, but visually I agree with "TheOnlyOwnage91" The more she continues with art on this level she will produce rediculous works that have no subsance except to say something was created...sad, really
1. 'Rediculous' (ridiculous) works are a highly subjective value judgement on your part, as is their having no 'subsance' (substance).
2. Ending your nuanced critique with 'sad, really' makes you sound like Trump tweeting from his gold toilet.
3. Hers is a Scottish accent.
