Hey man! TX! Just rebuild my TT engine and surprise surprise a horrible sound comes out... My mechanic wanted to change the lifters so I searched for options (sick and tired of dropping money on this project). BUT your vid was the most thorough on the subject! TX! for saving me some money. Will let you known once I've done it. Greetings!
I'm glad I have seen your video. My 300ZX had a tapping noise and I was told that I have a spun bearing but I was skeptical about it until I saw your video I will check these lifters. Thanks for you your video and well explained.
how much do you have to pound them to get the inner assembly pushing out enough to pull it out? I can't seem to get the inner assembly to a state where I can pull it out with just pliers.
If they’re pumped up all the way, you could end up holding a valve open which would lead to a no compression situation. Usually they will bleed down with the pressure of the valve springs on them, but it can take time for this to happen. The idea is to start short and let them pump up to take up the lash. I prefer them to be soft when I install them. You have to be careful and make sure they are not over inflated to where they are not able to lock together. This will hold valves open and has happened many times. You can take some pliers and try to pull the lifter apart by hand. You should not be able to separate the halves without pounding them again if they locked together properly. If they are locked in place, and the two halves were moving freely during re assembly, then they should be ok. But if you want to be 100% certain with them, I would pull them back apart and drain all the oil out of them and reassemble again. Last thing you want is to have to pull it all apart again. You want to use the oil to pump them up by hand and make sure they can build pressure and hold pressure, then drain them leaving them coated in oil for lubricity. When the engine is started up, oil pressure will inflate them. It can take some time to happen, but if all is right, they will quiet down within the first engine run cycle.
Thanks. I will check and see if they bled down a bit. I already have the cams on but better be safe with this.Building a zshack block so I want to be sure everything is perfect

I hurt my hand but I did get them all out, thanks Z shack for making the video.
Next time you do it try this method. Much easier than destroying your hand. ua-cam.com/video/ddYWgawfil0/v-deo.html

Awesome video! 🙏 Thank you for uploading this lesson .
How long do you run after rebuild that lifters quiet down?
is it ok to mix up all the parts for cleaning?
Is it ok that all my lifters ended up really hard after the rebuild? Had 3 that had a little squish to them but the rest were very stiff.
