I've watched alot of these vlogs from Americans travelling around our beautiful country and not one single complaint from this you, your so nice and polite and a breath of fresh air to watch, if you ever decide to live here no matter what city/community will only benefit more from your presence, your a champion so keep up the good work m8.
Hey Adrien! Usually restaurants and cafes are more expensive in Australia because the owners pay their workers a set national standard. From my time working in this industry, I would get $20-$30 per hour. I understand it must seem expensive given what your used to in the US, but it means that people can live a quality life when working in hospitality. If you’re looking for cheap eats, there’s an amazing Jewish/Yemenese restaurant where you can get a meal for $15. Hope this helps!!
Adrien, you come across as a really okay kinda bloke, a bit of a sweetheart actually. I hope you got to spend some time with some nice Aussies, your vlogs are great, you love our land just like an Aussie too!
The Byron Bay Lighthouse - the most Easterly part of Australia … apparently. Four years old these videos - fantastic job cos they stand the test of time. Well done sir - Cheers Sam.
Beautiful weather for the beginning of winter, if you get the chance travel across Australia and visit us here in WA (Western Australia) and see the sunset and so much more uniquely Aussie, happy travels 👍🐨🇦🇺
I grew up near there (Brunswick Heads) & I can say Byron has changed so much in the past 30 years from what it was. Byron to be fair, is a little more expensive that other places near it, but I know where he is coming from re: expensive. And yes, he is there during winter, but if you live further south you wouldn't think it wasn't cold. When I go up in winter & visit my folks I always go for a swim in the surf up there & always wear shorts.
I live South West of Byron. I agree with you that Byron has changed in the last 30 years. It is one of the more expensive towns in the area as the council won't allow big franchises from setting up in the area. There is also a different vibe with the town, personally I like Ballina or even Lennox Head south of Byron (the airport for Ballina/Byron is in Ballina). The people are more down to earth. This area also has a wide cross-section of people, including surfers, farmers, businesses people and even hippies or ferals. Also the area also hosts different landscapes from the laid back beaches, hinterland / forested areas, quaint or quirky villages, farms/orchards, to cities and townships.
Australian beaches...especially on the gold coast are so so so so underrated! That Airbnb is great - love the "decorated by guys look!" 😂Thanks for sharing!
I know its been over a year since you were in Byron, but seeing its near my old home town, loved seeing Lennox again. no wonder Chris Hemsworth made the area his home.....
Please try again! Your experiences were so understanding of what you just seemed to have such a grounded theory of everything in the natural environment around the parts you visited enjoying. Sydney is waiting for you to grace the streets of Paddington whenever you get back down... Wollongong NSW just South of Sy is not bad for public village atmosphere and beaches beyond beautiful. Love your work and think your delightful.
Very nice! Thanks for the second episode. Is there a third? Sorry about the rainy weather but it’s more sunny than rainy in Byron Bay usually. The nudist beach is best attended on a weekend lol. Aussies know the cost of living can be high, however, if you live here and know where to go, it’s actually pretty cheap. Also the wages here are pretty high so it doesn’t bite us as badly as it would if you weren’t working and earning here. The one thing I love about living in this part of Oz is that the weather is mild most of the year. The summers are hot but nothing like SE Asia in terms of humidity and uncomfortableness. It’s usually nice all year round. 😎
I just had some bad luck with the rain but my last day was sunny at least. Still no regrets. I loved my time in Australia and didn’t want to leave! I filmed a bit in Noosa too but the weather was lousy so I didn’t end up doing much. I went back to the nude beach a couple more times haha
Don't forget to travel by car to the most gorgeous scenery the South Coast of NSW, beautiful water views, national forests, great little towns, yes so many bays, off the tourist trap.
Byron Bay in the Australian Autumn. Australians like the prices overseas, Australia is expensive for everything (ISOLATION). Cairns or Darwin are the places to be in the Australian Winter.
You’ve done justice to yourself and for also promoting the country good Onya anyway in the background there’s an island and I used to be at the Surf club and there’s many times I’ve swam there but also many times I’ve actually painted along the beach front and also charcoal drawings so good on you for showing your holiday to other people that’s the true meaning of life happiness Well done mate thank you dietary blue
This is winter! That is why the weather is a bit cool and rainy. After you have been swimming in Lake Ainsworth, your skin feels amazingly soft, I don’t know why.
I’m from Sydney & love visiting Byron Bay in NSW, so laid back, we saw few dolphins near the lighthouse beautiful spot also a must see is at the Crystal Palace
I definitely agree what you are saying about the prices here but if you work here with the amazing minimum wages it is very very affordable. We welcome you anytime from the bottom of our heart to Australia thanks for the awesome videos mate
Maybe next visit you should visit some rural/regional areas for another experience of Australia. Really enjoyed your video. I live 4.5 hours north west of Sydney and it's very pretty.
Should have headed to the south coast/illawara coast on the other side of Sydney. Beautiful landscapes, lovely towns, endless beaches and nowhere near the ripoff prices you pay Byron Bay.
costs of the restaurants are alot more, as australia unlike the usa has a minimum wage... and there is no comparison to SE Asia... its sooo cheap there. in australia, you have to be careful of spending too much at dining out places... but you can find some cheap stuff around :)
True. I'd rather pay more and know that those who provide them are being paid fairly. Also Byron is ridiculously expensive in comparison to most other places on the mainland.
Loved this vlog! Byron is one of our favorite spots and will always be! It looks like you had a great time! We will be heading up again in Jan, just subbed! Let’s connect! xx
That is some expensive a Thai..Perhaps it’s because there is not much competition in terms of Thai restaurants, and a combination of above national average wages? Canberra is expensive as well if you want to go out and eat a decent meal . At one particular Thai restaurant(in the city centre) I paid $24 for a small bowl of Tom Yum Goong soup!
$40 dollars for a dish of duck and rice. I'm an Australian living in Sydney and that's absolutely impossible. It's normally around $12! I live in a beach suburb in Sydney at Bondi Beach , it's a tourist area and THAI main dishes are Round $12,,,,..
Now you know why us poorer Ozzies go to Bali for our Holidays. Its actually cheaper for us to fly to Bali than it is for us to fly to Melbourne which is closer. We Live in Adelaide.
You are here in Queensanl in winter. In summer it is 30 - 36c most of the time with high humidity. You'd be better off south coast N.S.W. Hotter but less humidity.
As an Aussie I agree with the 'expense ' observations. We are extremely expensive with general groceries, eating out etc. But to compensate we receive high wages, superannuation on top of our wages and excellent working conditions. Plus we dont do gratuity here. I do feel sorry for tourists, it must be like daylight robbery.
The main reason for higher prices along with tourist areas, is the distances goods have to travel from farms and other manufacturers. If you have a look at a satellite weather picture, you will see most of the green areas are around the coast. We live in a sunburnt country of droughts and flooding rains, to quote a famous poet. Droughts put prices up, and farmers can go broke and lose their farms. Then we have bushfires, cyclones and flooding to deal with at times. Sensible precautions keep most of us perfectly safe though. Some of our cities have a "higher cost of living" than others, A lot of tourists ask how far are you from your capital city. In Cairns, North Queensland, Brisbane is two days driving away, which is only halfway down our east coast. We don't all remember the number of kilometres that involves. British people I talked to over there had a bit of trouble taking that info in, as London is a few hours from Edinburgh, which is nearly at the other end of their country. Enjoy your stay.
Yeah Duck is expensive here. But $40 is still a bit nuts for a Thai place. Byrons got a few "tourist prices" places though as I understand it, it's one of the more expensive places to live.
Byron is overpriced but I don't think any prices in Australia should be compared to prices on Bali. Glad mate you liked Australia and hope you do move here and thanks for the great wrap about Brissbane I agree with all you said
Well I guess you know the date this is posted is 3 days before winter, so yeh it's cold then, and in Byron everything is over priced, is a rip off. Don't move to there, many cheaper towns nearby. Love to see you here.
I just upgraded to the a6400 while in Australia but I am thinking I really would like to get a gimbal to balance better. I shot a video this past week in Bali that is so shaky I’m not sure it’s usable. What about you? I think I saw in a previous vid you have the a6500?
I have the a6500! Love how the a6400 has the flip screen.. Im holding out for the rumored a7000 that might have 4k at 60p...which I really need in my life!!! Have you tried to stabilize the footage with your video editor? I like to shot in 60p or 120p...because you can slow it down and take out the jitters in most shots...especially when you combine it with your video editors stabilization.
Yeah stabilizing in fcp helps if there’s a little shake but a lot of shake produces weird results. I’ve been shooting in 4K but should probably go back to 1080 and higher FPS. No one needs to see all my imperfections in super HD anyway 😅
Haha! Most people watch in 1080 anyway! I do like being able to zoom in with 4k without loosing quality. Fingers crossed that new Sony cam has 4k at 60! Would make my life so much easier!
Dude, you're in one of the most popular, expensive tourist resorts in Australia! Of course you're going to pay more...their overheads are astronomical. Plus, you aren't obliged to tip, because we have FAIR wages. Also, if you wanted constant sun, you should have come in Spring/Summer, not nearly Winter.
I’m a bit sick of Americans complaining about how expensive food is at restaurants in Australia. Yet they think it is good that the price already included the tax and no tip is required. AND they also say how good the minimum wage is so high. You can’t have your cake and eat it to guys.
We get paid better as waiters than in the Us , especially get paid better than Asia . Byron Bay is very touristy and that is why it is quite expensive .
The cost of living here is a reflection of the high wages people are paid. And also the explanation for the LOW cost of goods in countries like those of South East Asia. The people in that area receive very low wages.
As far as food prices go byron is one of thr most expensive places in Australia, it's a tourist trap. Restraunts prices are not usually that expensive for Thai.
Why do people expect third world prices in a first world country?I see it constantly. I live in Sydney and tbh with the great wages I find it super cheap
Oh yeah. Youre in one of the most expensive places in the world. But also the coolest and most beautiful places. You must work in Australia or have lots saved up. But its also the best places in the world to work. Work is chill and fun with funny people and excellent pay. But there's cheaper places in Australia where if you work you can live like a millionaire with the best lifestyle imaginable. Stay. We love people that love life and appreciate the beauty of people and life. Bali is only good when you stay in the resorts otherwise it's pretty gross.
Leo.. Cmon. What a shitty thing to say... He's a traveller , its all an experience, his sharing his thoughts....... As the saying goes, "Travel Broadens the Mind" So, yeh... Maybe you should travel a bit more.

Byron Bay isn't typical. It's more expensive than Sydney.

Byron is the easternmost point of Australia. You were as far out in the Pacific Ocean as Oz gets at the lighthouse
You have just felt the spirit that is Australia. She is pretty awesome isn't she ?
I thought it was just me who felt her presence. ❤❤
Enjoy your comments. Australia is a beautiful nation
It's cold because it's WINTER!

As an Aussie, $40 for a meal is very expensive. I think they took you to the wrong restaurant. Most don’t charge nearly that much.
Once you get rice, some entrees and a drink I wouldn't expect change from $40
Just a heads up Byron is overpriced as it’s a touristy thing
