Marty is my cousin, and wish I could have meet him. He had a hard life, but he changed it to be better that his father. I am proud to be related to Marty. He is one of the country music singer I came to love while growing up. My God Bless Him.
Hes one of my favorites I got his autograph years ago in Odessa, Missouri we raced in a stock car race at the I-70 speedway!, he raced a chevy nova and I raced a Plymouth duster. It was a big event there was other nascar drivers there and cars from all across the us there!.
A true balladeer. I wish more singers today would get back to telling stories with their music, rather than the majority of the trash that's available.
God I miss those days when I was tuned into the 50,000 Watt Clear Channel signal of WSM-650 as it bounced off the either to be picked up on my 1938 Zenith Console tube radio in Chicago. There was nothing better than listening to the Grand ole Opry on a Saturday night and Marty Robbins voice was filling the room as if it was magical. All the lights dimmed, with the glow of that big dial as all 15 tubes were aglow inside that majestic wonder, when real radios were king. And Country Music was Real. God Bless you Marty, Hope you are looking down from Heaven and know your fans are still enjoying what you left behind. You will forever live in the hearts of millions.
We lived in Indiana we also had one of those GREEN EYE Zenith radios Dad ran antennae wires to pick up WSM,He called W "Yes maam"...thanks for memories!.
I lived in El Paso from '74 to May of '76 and saw Marty live while living in El Paso. I have an original photo of him on stage singing! It was absolutely unforgettable to see him!
A reply to your comment of so long ago....your Dad, Don Winters - one of the great backup singers. Him and Bobby Sykes...and, of course, Jim Glaser...singing with Marty. All great trios
Your dad was so talented. So was Bobby, Don, Jack, and all of the band members. One of favorites was Bill Martinez who is my second all time favorite drummer behind Keith Moon.
He did way more than just the western story songs, granted they are considered amongst his very best (if that even is a thing with Marty). An album was made in the 1990s that showed a variety of his. Some old songs with that Hank Sr. vibe, some of his westerns, and some about love and heartbreak. All of his are just a treasure that can't be replicated.
Brings back memories of my Granddad sitting outside in his chair when we lived in the desert. Overstuffed chair with the stuffing falling out. I would play in the dirt by him while he sang this song and told me cowboy stories of his past (he was born n the 1880's). Never barked at me and didn't really praise me either. We had a kind of unspoken love that was always just there. I still miss him so much..
One of my favorite songs of all time! And I'm not 60 years old, I'm 27 and like all genres of music. I would put this in my all time top 10 what a classic.
GREAT ballad !! "I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle, I feel the bullet go deep in my chest". What a verse and what a great and sorely missed talent !
Marty was a natural, comfortable goofing around during performances with band members & the folks in the audience, the kind of entertainer who makes playing for them a pleasure.
This song actually is a fast waltz and it gets coming back to my mind. Such smootly, yet fast rhythm. This is real music, not the crap from the modern days.
This is the kind of country music I grew up with. This garbage they call country now doesn't hold a candle to this music. WWVA was the station I got country music from. WWVA, Wheeling WV forever!!!
You said it. I grew up in San Francisco. I'm 63 now and really miss when singers had beautiful, distinctive voices and they sang these great ballads. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. San Francisco in the late 1950s and 1960s weren't we hearing Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash on our Top 40 R&R stations. KEWB, KFRC, and KYA? I know we had a C&W station in the Bay Area back then, but I could swear the major C&W hits were played on rock stations.
MARTY WAS A HERO OF MINE . I STILL MISS HIM AND HIS SMILE. HE DID WHAT HE LOVED AND LOVED WHAT HE DID . MY DAD WAS A GRAND OLE OPRY MEMBER AND I INTRODUCED MY SON TO MARTY WHEN HE WAS VERY YOUNG . HE'S NOW 33 AND STILL A BIG FAN . I WILL ALWAYS SMILE WHEN I THINK OF MR. MARTY ROBBINS A GREAT SINGER AND ENTERTAINER . HE WAS ALWAYS ON STAGE .
God I miss good old country music like this. The crap they play on the radio now is a mixture of disco and rapp. No were near country music. This is class.
This was the man my grandma swore if ever divorced she would marry.RIP Marty ....Good to see some still remember real country/western music.May your music live on forever!!
I was luck to be born in the early 60's and grow up on this my Father was a big fan of Marty Robbins and he play his 8 track all the time, I know every song by heart, Mr Robbins knew how to tell a story in his music he was country's best male singer ever hands down! R.I.P. Sir!
Hi Folks. Let me share some of my personal history for as an officer with Valley National Bank in Glendale AZ in the 60's. Marty a home town boy and when he was in town I'd go in the back door of Bittzee Mama's Cafe owned at the time by his God parents the Gatley's and drink coffee with him around 6:60 am. I knew personally as a friend and a great entertainer,he was a natural with a wonderful voice as you hear on his signature song. Larry Adams Phoenix,AZ
I wish we still had music like this I wish I was born 60 years ago to me those times seem like the best for music but I guess I'm weird because I still have respect manners and a good sense of music.
Your not that wierd, im 25 and dad used to play this on the Juke box when i was 5. Literally a giant box that thing had about 300 LP's in it. Theres more of us guys than you'd think, but we are definitely the minority it seems. I quite like the sound of the 50's too. Its tough people, who survived an insaaaane war or were born as it rebuilt
Mike Sloan Ww2 ruined the US. Fought by old school types + kids raised during the depression. The big companies were flooded with money, then after, the people all wanted to raise their kids with "the things they never had", but it just ruined them, what with the rise of blatant consumerism, thanks to those same companies...
I'm going ta' sing this Beautiful Ballad that Mr. Marty Robins Sang And Wrote; For A Beautiful Young Lady that I met a short while back; That I swear Has Chocolate Kisses....For Eyes!!!! She's Got the World By The Tail; & I Love Her.... She Is One Talented Young Lady!!!! May The Lord God; & His One & Only Son Jesus; Bless Her; Always.... & Forever!!!! Jeff & Mandy
I think another problem today is that many people who can actually sing don't feel like doing that when live, then they're more interested in jumping around and showing off while singing their songs casually. Earlier they just sang, and it was beautiful.
You are preaching to this choir. What happened to story telling in music and a strange requirement is one can sing, write and / or play an actual instrument. I must be getting really old. Peace Allison.
I remember when my mom was cleaning, she would put Marty, and she would clean and dance at the sametime....... and I love to watch my mom dance:) and she seem like she was really happy I like to listen to Marty it remind me of Dona Eva Vasquez from Waukesha Wi
Your dad was great! I met him briefly after one of Marty's concerts years ago. As great as Marty was, he was only as good as the people backing him up... They made some great harmony together!
If he only knew then that this song would be the finale of the best TV series ever made, Breaking Bad. Watched and appreciated by Millions all over the globe. And that the the lyrics of this song were the metaphor of the whole show.
Supposedly Jim Reeves had this to say about Marty..."Marty Robbins can sing like Caruso thought he could." And Jim Reeves and Marty were not friends by a long shot!
Growing up listening to all these GREAT Country singers has been pure heaven to me, these new singers think that they have to put that rap crap into it to be music , trust me it's not.
We had a lot of them back then and it is so good to have been born and to have grown up in a world were men were men and "country singers" were of this caliber and Marty Robbins was absolutely one of the best.
Nice to hear a clean version with the "Just for a moment I stood there in silence" stanza left in. Thanks a lot for posting this. My favorite Karaoke song. :)
Marty is my cousin, and wish I could have meet him. He had a hard life, but he changed it to be better that his father. I am proud to be related to Marty. He is one of the country music singer I came to love while growing up. My God Bless Him.
My grand father's favorite country singer, I've always liked him too, amazing man your cousin.
I’m his nephews cousins brothers kid too
My father in law played bass for Marty for a couple years touring with him. He said Marty was one of the kindest stars he'd ever met.
@@delesdog If you have nothing good to say, say nothing.
I agree hundred percent
The stories he wrote, tear @ the heart. They cant do that today.
I’m 81 and agree with you , we were lucky to grow up in the forties and fifties with lots great singers in the world of music .
Marty Robbins was one of the best.....never did a bad song....what a loss to the music world
And to the human race. A very special human being.
God I miss those days when I was tuned into the 50,000 Watt Clear Channel signal of WSM-650 as it bounced off the either to be picked up on my 1938 Zenith Console tube radio in Chicago. What a marvelous description. You should write a book. 👍❤
Sweet memories.
We lived in Indiana we also had one of those GREEN EYE Zenith radios Dad ran antennae wires to pick up WSM,He called W "Yes maam"...thanks for memories!.
I listened to the same in upstate NY on the same kind of radio.
This is the real thing. What's called Country Music today is only CMINO, Country Music In Name Only.
I lived in El Paso from '74 to May of '76 and saw Marty live while living in El Paso. I have an original photo of him on stage singing! It was absolutely unforgettable to see him!
Gary Smith I was born in El Paso in 1955. But spent most of my life in Denver. Smile
story telling through music. an incredibly smooth voice. the magic of Marty Robbins. Thanks for posting!
Nicely put.
The guy in the tan hat is my dad Don Winters, was with Marty for almost 23 yrs, they used to try to crack each other up, just for fun !
Sorry I meant Bill Johnston, not Don Johnston. Your dad was an amazing entertainer.
Growing up in the late 50's and 60's my brother and I loved this song!
"I caught a good one, it looked like it could run" - what a great song, thank you kindly
Marty Robbins was the western part of country and western music. My dad loved to listen to him.
My dad loved Johnny Cash, Elvis and Bobby Bare, Man I listen to them All! Love the Legends.
best cowboy song ever penned
gordon probert
gordon probert I have to agree with you there.
Yes Sir!
This and Big Iron, still by Marty. What a legend.
Brings back memories of my Granddad sitting outside in his chair when we lived in the desert. Overstuffed chair with the stuffing falling out. Wow! How wonderful of a memory!
I loved this song for as long as I could remember. I'm 65 now and you are a true icon and hero in my mind. R I P
Terry Cohen my daddy played Marty Robins all the time back then, and I'm 62 i remember when he died, it hurt me, because i grew up on him!
Got all misty-eyed listening to this song. Reminds me of my dad - gone this 21 years. RIP Marty - your songs and your voice had great heart !!!
Mines been gone almost 32 yrs and this just screams my father
😊
Marty was a natural, comfortable goofing around during performances with band members & the folks in the audience, the kind of entertainer who makes playing for them a pleasure.

+Starfire1956 you call it "country", but it's really mexican music sung in english, if you really consider it.
+philippe holland call it whatever you want, its good stuff
no doubt, juzz cawlin a spade an espada...
+hilippe holland Yeah, but it was played on the C&W station when I was growing up, as many of Marty's songs were.
You said it. I grew up in San Francisco. I'm 63 now and really miss when singers had beautiful, distinctive voices and they sang these great ballads.

I love this song. It's the best song Marty Robbins ever recorded.
Marty Robbins, in my opinion , had the greatest voice God ever gave to man So do miss him.
I saw him in person many years ago when I lived in Scotland,he appeared in Glasgow , and he was superb.
@Bobby Klein I’m staying safe as I hope you are,and yes I’m a fan.
@Bobby Klein yes I’m a fan, but my favourite singer is Perry Como

God I miss good old country music like this. The crap they play on the radio now is a mixture of disco and rapp. No were near country music. This is class.
I'M 31 AND I LISTEN TO MARTY ROBBINS RELIGIOUSLY. I ONLY HAVE VINYLS. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST PERFORMANCES I'VE WITNESSED
I like this tune Listen to them all night ❤❤❤❤
The addition of the Trumpet really adds to the song.
Thanks for posting this video. No one sings better than Marty.
How could anyone with a sane mind dislike this unbelievable artist!
he is one of my favorites, what a wonderful voice and great harmonies
This was the man my grandma swore if ever divorced she would marry.RIP Marty ....Good to see some still remember real country/western music.May your music live on forever!!
Love that Vince gave both Marty and the under-rated Badfinger some new exposure. Marty had one the best country voices of all time.
Five minutes of pure enjoyment, talent and wonderful harmonies by gifted people.
wow, what a voice, marty robbins!!! RIP
I was luck to be born in the early 60's and grow up on this my Father was a big fan of Marty Robbins and he play his 8 track all the time, I know every song by heart, Mr Robbins knew how to tell a story in his music he was country's best male singer ever hands down! R.I.P. Sir!
Gone but for sure not forgotten
His songs told stories and you can imagine what’s happening. RIP Marty. ❤️🐝
Amen, brother. I hope Marty tops the charts with El Paso now that the song aired on Breaking Bad. More young people need to know how great Marty was.
Sou brasileiro e estou apreciando essa bela música por causa da série. Já ouvi umas 10 vezes, encantei-me pela canção
One of the greats, real Country Western, loved Marty Robbins version since I was a kid & still listen to it a lot.

Marty is one of our great artists!!
Had the pleasure of meeting Marty twice. What a sweet comical character he was! Loved joking around! RIP dear Marty.
I grew up with all the oldies of country songs. We still have all of our album collections.l love country songs.
Marty what a (Legend ) most Beautiful voice ever....Love all his songs. Thanks for sharing.Sweet Dreams 💥💫💓
Amazing how artists back then sounded live exactly like their songs, unlike today with autotune and all sorts of programs anyone can "sing".
I think another problem today is that many people who can actually sing don't feel like doing that when live, then they're more interested in jumping around and showing off while singing their songs casually. Earlier they just sang, and it was beautiful.
One of the best versions of this song I have come across. 5 stars. Thanks for posting.
I grew up with this stuff, old school country,.
Love the short Cowboy Martin guitar Marty plays here. Rest in Peace Marty. Cant wait to see you on the big stage in heaven.
When country music was good.
Country + Western
Correction: when ALL music was much better.
stuff4ever
Legend that was Marty.
You are preaching to this choir. What happened to story telling in music and a strange requirement is one can sing, write and / or play an actual instrument. I must be getting really old. Peace Allison.
I was just about 6 when El Paso was charting, always a favorite! IMHO, this is one of the best live performances.
This my friends is what I call a LEGEND!!
El Paso is in the top 10 most famous Country songs and most recorded.

Fred ducting, turn up your hearing aids! Johnny Cash never could sing. He just talked his way through.
Yes Deborah I agree Johnny Cash is too deep I have loads of records and long players, but I haven’t one of Johnny Cash he’s not good enough.
Marty - the master of gunfighter ballads - he lived his songs - thx - R.I.P.
Awesome ,pure talent . One of the Best .❤

How Fantastic !!!!

The ultimate love ballad !
This was the "Western" part of Country music, which no longer exists. Now, "country" music no longer exists.
