Great video. On another topic- can you help me understand the error message that occurs when I am progressing my schedule and it says “the remaining finish cannot be greater the
Great TUT, Thank you! When working with level of effort (focus on expenses in a fix price project) which Duration Type and %complete type would you recommend?
Hi Mike - thanks for the video - I found it helpful. I notice that when you created the the Hammock (LOE) that you assigned both activities A & F as "successors" to the hammock. I would have made A a SS predecessor and F a FF successor. You state that the hammock/LOE does not show critical because of the way you set up the relationships... is this what you meant?? if you had used my method (SS Pred & FF Succ) would the hammock/LOE show critical?
Can still Rolling Wave applied even though the schedule already baselined. How? Or after adding activties do we need to rebaseline again? By the way, thanks a lot of your videos...Hope more videos to come especially new techniques in scheduling
You can do rolling wave planning with a baseline - I think it's covered in the video. But it might not be accepted by everyone involved. No need to rebaseline if you are following the technique I show here.
Great tutorial. Thank you. I have followed the steps but have come up against an issue. The baseline seems to have been lost againt the original activity when changed to a level of effort activity type. Yet, I see there is still a baseline bar for you! Could you explain a work around for me please?
Hey Jerry - It's probably that you are not showing Level of Effort bars in the Gantt Chart. Go into View->Bars, and turn on Remaining Level of Effort bars. In case that doesn't work, make sure you are showing your baseline bars here and you can also try using the "Shift Up / Down" buttons in this Bars screen in case bars are overlapping.
I work a lot on rolling wave planning schedules and always had to manually make changes to maintain the links with baseline. I now know i was doing it all wrong.
Hi. one query please. I m also working on a tutorial. For your video Primavera P6 tutorial : Subcontractor update using reflections. Are the slides made in powerpoint 2010? one feature i m not able to implement
Not sure you can still use the LOE now to compare against your baseline. P6 ignores level of effort tasks when doing baseline analysis. You might need to rebaseline to include the sub activities you created under the new LOE task.
I'm not finding this is the case. If you don't see a baseline bar under the activity when it is changed to an Level of Effort type, you have to adjust the Bars settings for the Project Baseline Bars line to include LOE activities.
You can either leave them on the high-level activity, or move them down to the sub-activities, adjusting as you go. It's preferred to have them on the subactivities for accuracy.
How come when you add up the duration of the new 6 activties you get to 247 days instead of 250 days? A=50days; B=30days; C=35days; D=35days; E=50days & F=50days. Summing this is 250, just like the baseline. Different calendar?
If the total duration of activities A through F is 250 days (which is also the duration of "Fabricate Wheel Shop Equipment"), why did activity F have a different Finish date than Fabricate Wheel Shop Equipment, causing the Fabric Wheel Shop Equipment duration to decrease to 247 at the final update? Thanks for the great video, very helpful.
Good question. Calendars. If you scrutinize, you'll see that my A-F activities use "8x5 workweek calendar", while the Fabricate uses "Corporate 8x5 calendar". So there are likely some differences between these 2 calendars in terms of non-working days that caused the totals to mismatch.
Pls how can i remove the dot in wbs code. Ex if i have a wbs code of 21440.-2.2 and I want to remove the dot and left with the dash. how do i go about it in p6
Really like your way of teaching. Very impressive. Simple with clear english
Great Explanation, Thank you for the video.
You explained it so well, Thank you.
Love your videos, nice job keep it up
Great Video and explanation Micheal, super liked it.
I do like your videos.
Thank you. Great help for me to manage my baseline data and updates on tracks.

Thank you very much, it's great one. How to make a baseline for those are new activities?
great video
Thanks!
Appreciated
Great TUT, Thank you! When working with level of effort (focus on expenses in a fix price project) which Duration Type and %complete type would you recommend?
I always recommend using "Fixed Duration & Units/Time" and Physical % Complete.
Thx Michel for truly amazing demo . like to go refresh P6 jockey , if we connect , or you have training course .pl advise
We have our Primavera P6 course outline on our website, you can follow this link to go to it. www.planacademy.com/courses/
Hi, What if the original activity is resource loaded, Should we assign the resources to the new tasks and zero out the resources in the original task?
Thank you

@@PlanAcademy Thanks for the reply. No, LOE bars were turned on, and the other suggestions did not work. Craziest thing..
hi sir , i think you must remove the successor of the LOF activity that it is dot not summarizes.
I work a lot on rolling wave planning schedules and always had to manually make changes to maintain the links with baseline. I now know i was doing it all wrong.
Thanks! great feedback for me!

If the high-level activity has resources loaded on it how are those handled as the details are defined and added? Thanks...

Best you use activity steps so we can get detailed activity breakdown
Maybe, but of course, there's limitations with using activities steps - no dates, no durations, etc.
It can be but the problem is all activities is set to activity steps as well

P6 WBS always have dots to indicate a next level. No removing them since WBS is a hierarchy.
