    The Scots are the most kind people and they have the best senses of humor of any nationality that I've ever experienced. This is making me want to go to Scotland again.

    I can't say enough about how friendly the Scottish people are. And funny. I also have never seen the color green like it is in Scotland. Even Ireland's green is somehow different from Scotland's green meadows and hillsides. Thanks for the beautiful videography and for taking us on your journey. Be good to yourself and that bundle you're carrying.

    Another beautiful and well-done video with lovely soothing music that really augments the walk! So gorgeous! We who can't do it anymore salute you! LOL! Dixie, what is heather and what is gorse? Its supposed to be out there, but I don't know what it is. And heather is supposed to be blooming, 🎵🎶" all among the bloomin' heather, will ye go, laddie, go? " 🎶🎵🎼So what is it? And what about the "moors". What are moors? "....the road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moors when the Highwayman came riding, riding, up to the old inn door." Always have wondered why were the "moors" purple? Can you find out while you are there?

    • @helenlayley
      @helenlayley 2 місяці тому +1

      Oh wow! You are in for a treat . . .
      Moors are wild, free, uncultuvated areas that are higher in elevation than the farmed lands but below the mountain peaks.
      Heather and gorse are the dominant plants there, both low woody bushes with a lot of small fragrant flowers. Heather in dark pinks and purples. Gorse bushes grow a little higher and more open and have vivid yellow flowers. A type of wild blueberry called bilberry also grows there.

    Your vid opening scenes & Braveheart music capture the essence & majesty of this place. Perfect choice. Editing fantastic even down to the deer lifting its head in time to the music. That view over Loch Tulla blew me away. 11:34 The same mini-bus & the same driver I had to ferry me back from Glencoe the following day! You must have booked with Macs Adventures! The drive down through the Glen is superb. Love how you notice the little things & capture the tiny critters & insects on camera.

    Aye, even in the warmer summers, which this one definitely is not, the temperature can plummet pretty quickly here. It's always a good idea to have the "big jaykit" ready. But as Billy Connoly said, there's no bad weather, only a bad choice of clothes !

  • @carriehikes

    I walked the Great Glen Way In 2012 which goes from Fort Williams to Inverness. I can see that I should have walked the West Highland Way because it is more wild country. The Great Glen Way follows more tow paths and dirt roads. Actually I enjoyed the Coast to Coast trail in England more because it was more wild country.

    Billow and breeze, islands and seas,
    Mountains of rain and sun,
    All that was good, all that was fair,
    All that was me is gone.
    I suppose Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Sing me a Song of a Lad that is Gone” may be fitting for new to be parents but also a bit melodramatic.

    Additiional comment: Curious to know when you did this hike. YT says 2 months ago but one has to allow for editing time & uploading. The reason I ask is cos I recognise the mini-bus driver you had & when he took us back to the ski resort he was telling us about the different people who do this hike. He spoke of a young lady who'd done it when 6 months pregnant but then qualified it saying she'd also done the Appalachian Trail. Having checked through your uploads this has to be you!! I was in Glencoe on 7/8 July. I actually videoed this journey so have the actual conversation.
    EDIT: Have just dug out that video and it WAS you. The 'previous week' he said so that would be early July. It's a small world sometimes.

    Many routes and bridges were built in the 1720's and 1730's by the English General Wade when Scotland was a "problem" to help move troops around the country, unlike the roman roads in england they were not always extremely straight. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_roads_of_Scotland
