    Diane said in her book that she really fell in love with Warren so I think it was what lead to this emotional speech.

      If u think about it....Diane is very similar to Annette Bening....in height and even face...
      But Diane acts silly and almost at times immature compared to Annette.
      I'm thinking that was Diane's chance in Reds to marry him but she was quirky or too insecure...or too honest.....women like this usually are usually to genuine and I don't know why men do not marry them and instead go for the Sarah plain and tall.....

      Yes, and kudos to Annette for being such a trooper to listen to an old lover of Warren's rhapsodize so sentimentally and passionately (and with such detail) about a memory from the time with a treasured lover (albeit not just *a* memory but a rather special one). Awesome on everyone's part :)

      i think when your lucky enough to love and be loved greatly as annette is i think its ok i think annette knew who she was marrying and i think its better that there was great love in his romantic history, its what made him who he is. I think diane knows this too and knows the value of expressing what is important to you when the moment comes. what a beautiful moment what a beautiful speech. i love that this was said because it reminds people of the reality that you can love and love another and still it be ok to respect that love and it not be disrespectful of your current love, that the depth of the heart are very very deep.

      @@Professional_Victim_H8er Eh, I don't know. It was so far in the past, and by that point Bening and Beatty had a family together. It's not like Keaton presented a threat. I'm sure Bening was well aware of Beatty's track record when she married him. At a certain point, you just accept it that your partner has a past, and that some feelings linger.

    I love the way Diane Keaton expresses herself. She is so open, so honest, so self deprecating and yet she also comes across as strong even with those qualities. It doesn’t take anything away from her being such an open person, and she has such wit and humour. When she was younger I didn’t appreciate her so much because yes she was a good actress but in later life listening to her stories it’s a whole different ballgame. I need to take a leaf out of her book and be more energetic and chipper and upbeat.

    Wow. What a gutsy speech at such a moment, in front of a roomful of people, many (most?) of whom know very well that the two were in a failing relationship at the time "Reds" was being made. How nice to see Keaton in a serious mode, instead of doing the ditzy thing she's better known for. Now we know how she did that performance in "Reds," even though, it's said, making the movie with Beatty put the final nail in the coffin of that very relationship. Thanks for posting.

    Annette Bening is a class act and a trooper. As moving as Diane's speech was, part of me squirmed that she would share such a passionate reminiscence to a now-married ex-lover in front of his wife. Maybe I'm just not being very broad-minded or sophisticated here - a strong possibility - but I would never have given such a speech, no matter how deeply I felt. I suppose the matter is highly debatable, but, to me, it crosses a boundary. I ask any woman here to put herself in Annette's place and see how she would feel. If you're OK with it, I'll let it go and shut up. Something was done to me once by a lady that I thought was my friend, and since that experience, I'm very careful of what I say and do around other women's men, because I dread ever doing to another woman what was done to me. It isn't just about appropriateness and manners, it's about compassion.

      The Real Mr J. Absolutely. LOL. Maybe Diane is jealous.

    • @TimeIdle
      @TimeIdle 8 років тому +9

      +DivineSimply It's a passionate reminiscence of a creative process, a moment when they were making the movie, not what they did in bed together or of their old romance. The love Diane expressed here for Warren, I interpret, was the love for someone who was so committed to his vision.

    • @DivineSimply
      @DivineSimply 8 років тому +3

      +TimeIdle But besides being creative collaborators, they were also lovers, which makes the line fuzzier, and that's my point. I would opt to stay away from language and emotions that could mean something else too, since that other dimension was also there, and so very palpable. Just a question of sensitivity and courtesy from one woman to another. I wouldn't have gone where Diane went, that's all.

    • @TimeIdle
      @TimeIdle 8 років тому +7

      +DivineSimply We don't get to see the scene that they played before her speech. The "anguished love" she mentioned here was expressed in that famous train station scene, which proves the idea of the relationship between the actor and the director. You have to admire and love your director to the point where that magic can happen on the screen. That's what she was sharing. Secondly, we don't know what kind of relationship there is between Diane and Annette. They could be good casual friends by now judging the way Annette was smiling so generously when Diane steps onto the stage, so we don't know how Annette would feel. Secondly, Annette did meet and fall in love with Warren in a movie made together "Bugsy". So I'm sure she can relate. You're projecting a lot of things that Annette might not be feeling at all. A lot of life happened in Warren's life before he met Annette, and I'm sure she's adult enough to hear about it in a tribute to him.

    Warren first met Diane 10 years before Annette. Warren dated Madonna for more than a year before settling down with Annette.
    That's what makes this speech so sad because here is Diane telling Warren that the fictional character he played was when she first felt love....its so sad because before that she only knew it from ppl like Woody Allen...much older than her and a different type of love...
    She was too insecure he didnt marry her, otherwise that scene in Reds she knew there was potential...but that seed died there never grown.

    Actors love to lay it on thick.
    Warren is such a stud women are throwing themselves at his feet, embarassing themselves years later in public. I kind of don't get it really. He was great looking, and a reasonably talented artist, but why are these women nuts over him? It's gotta be that can't have him factor, I guess. It's weird honestly, and says a lot about the vapidity of females when it comes to romance, NOT motherhood, but romance.

    not being rude, i promise, but does warren beatty and his wife REALLY have a trans gendered son? if so, how did the parents cope with it? have either of them appeared on talk shows to talk about it and to make itmore acceptable. more socially acceptable. more religiously acceptable. most religions, of course, would judge such people, fire and brimstone and all that shite.
    on a more personal note, warren beatty looks OLDER than he is!! i still think he had some sort of face lift that went wrong! and how, to this day, i wonder, did annette get him down the aisle?

      I think Warren’s face looks completely natural, not enhanced at all.
