Lots of trees can make "wood" at similar rates, that drop mast, fix nitrogen or at least not kill every living thing under them? Plant a shipmaster black locust it fixes nitrogen and makes a fine piece of hardwood and after you cut it down it grows back on its own with just a little management. Or Blight resistant American Chestnuts! Don't get me started on Blight resistant American Chestnuts! Pine trees? Think outside the box. You plant chestnuts the run pastured pigs under the trees. Turn all that free mast into pork. Kill two birds with one stone or don't both.
