As a woman, I thank you for writing about a young man's first time.. and writing in your book that young men need to be kind and compassionate and above all, that you were staring add another human being in the most vulnerable times in their lives. Bravo sir, Bravo!
Never heard of Jason before, but after this interview I feel like I would gladly listen to him talk for hours on end about whatever came into his mind.
When I was a teenager, I asked my dad “what were you like when you were my age?”. The basis of his response: “I was just like you. I loved music and movies. I cared about people and the environment. I wanted to have fun with my friends and family. You don’t know much about the world yet, but follow your heart and the world will be a better place.” We can find reasons to hate on the next generation, but we need to listen to them. They are the future.
Wonderful! Thank you Jason for looking at this and writing about it. And thank you Jordan for excellent interview!❤ I'm a mom of three boys and you're right, no one ever looks at this.
I love Jason Reynolds! I read "Long Way Down" my first year in college and I've been haunted by the final page ever since. The world needs more authors and poets that just radiate their coolness like Reynolds does
Wow - Jason!!! Haven’t heard of you before but impressive and will never forget! Well spoken, intelligent, well read, emotionally intelligent, etc… Just wow. Great roll model. Keep doing what you’re doing. The world needs more Jasons!!!! You give me hope!
Jason is the voice our kids need to hear right now. He speaks to the whole kid, and I won’t be surprised if his books become part of the reading canon for future generations.
This man is so very insightful, ngl this interview made me quite emotional. I also learned something new about my relationship with literature and art. Thank you 🙌
The Daily Show is a great laugh at serious subjects & still gets people thinking. An under appreciated part of the show however is the outstanding interview talent of Desi, Jordan & of course John, & the quality of the guests they choose to have a conversation with. Love from Australia & vote 💙 all over the ticket America ✌️
Now that he brought it up, I can only think of one other YA book that looks at puberty from a boy's POV. Judy Blume's "Then Again Maybe I Won't" I think I'll read Reynolds book and reread Blume's.
Right on, brother. Really beautiful and insightful. 👌 Everything about you is happening. Your look is incredible. It's so great to hear a young man speaking so intelligently and compassionately. I've been very concerned about the young people. Living with anxiety, depression, and no where to turn. We definitely need to open things up more and more and talk to each other. You're not alone. And it's really going to be OK with just a little bit of understanding and caring from others. Peace
I was about to say that I'd never read his work but I'm about to check it out; only to realize that he has actually written my favorite Miles Morales issues Amazing No notes ❤
I have no words but if a vibe has to be put into a word or words... Lol all I can think of is 'Yes. More of him please.". Also, Jordan klepper is it. And I miss roy wood jr. I found Trevor Noah has a new podcast "what next."
Roy Wood Jr hosts a new show on CNN-“Have I Got News For You”-with Amber Ruffin and Ian Michael Black. It’s on Saturdays at 9PM. It’s definitely worth checking out!
My parents never knew how to council me like this but i'm certain they would have if somebody had shown them. They did the best that they could with the lessons inherited from their parents but society just didn't have any public awareness of this. I'm so thrilled that Jason is spreading these lessons.
BIG LOVE FOR JASON REYNOLDS! We are so lucky to have him. His humility, depth, and authenticity are so so precious. Recommend his recent episode on the podcast Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso! So sweet. ❤ A great human & fantastic author.
I'm almost 75 and still trying to figure that out. I suspect that love and how best to express (or accept it) it isn't something that anyone ever really grasps fully.
My mother grew up in the late 1930s early 1940s in rural Montana. All the stories they read other people (especially in textbooks) were about families that have a father that was a businessman mother that was a stay-at-home wife taking care of the children, they lived in the suburbs (even before the 1950s) and how all that was culturally irrelevant to her growing up on a farm. Her dad was a farmer and later a Long-Haul trucker. Her mother basically ran the household while he was out working often doing tasks like killing and cleaning chickens. This was outside the suburban experience, eventhough both involved "White" people.

He is an excellent writer and voice for young people! All his books are great. Long Way Down is one of my favorite books of all time.

I will watch any interview that Reynolds gives! He's a great writer and cheerleader for literature!
What a great interview. Thank you Jason and Jordan!
Thanks for what you do for our nation’s kids
His mom rocks. I love how she handled that.
undeniably brillaint guy with some real heart.
Wow, I will purchase this book because of this man. Confidence and brilliance.

I will also look into the books by Ali Smith and Poems of Mary Oliver that he said he reads!
3:44 My mom has that same talk to me about "movies". Uncomfortable memory unlocked. lol
What an amazing interview! It was uplifting and inspiring. Thank you.
Well said sir. Let’s focus on listening and empowering our youths instead of groaning and limiting them
Fantastic guest! Didn’t know about this author before, but now want to know more! Thank you daily show!
A writer needed. Congrats on self discovery and a voice to share with others
Thank you for introducing me to this guy. I'm currently tutoring two boys and I am always looking for things for them to read and make them think. 🥰
Such a prolific and profound writer. Hits every time.
Hey Captain! Keep pointing those boats in the right direction, please, you're awesome!
Yes! There needs to be more adults like this in the world.
Great interview! Awesome guest!

As a mom with boys this is so important to talk about.

I had no idea he wrote for Spider-Man’s Miles Morales issues, will definitely look it up as he is my family’s favorite Spider-Man by a mile!
I loved this so much! Great interview and can’t wait to read the book ❤️
My two sons appreciated that I was open & honest way. It also terrified them. Then again it was the same for me.
LOVE him! My son had all of his books! So authentic and real!!!!❤
CONGRATS on the MacArthur Grant, Jason Reynolds!
Just what a wonderful person
Thank you for sharing this important information. 💯
Just bought it. Can't wait to read it!

This is the only night show I know of that has actually real interviews.
I love Jason Reynolds

What a great interview! I'm going to read this book and I'm an old lady. Lol
What a great mom. Enlightened and understanding. Straightforward with her son.
Very cool 😎 👌
Right on, mom. 🕉
Jason is so wonderful.
His Mother sounds awesome!
more of this for young males
Thank you. Definitely grabbing a copy.
Love Jason
Jaaon seems very impressive. I don't read romance novels, but I could make an exception. Literature is full of boy coming-of-age stories, however.
“And YOU are not those men…” I loved that anecdote and busted out laughing. His mom is wicked smart.
I'm almost 75 and still trying to figure that out. I suspect that love and how best to express (or accept it) it isn't something that anyone ever really grasps fully.
This interview spoke to my psyche.
YESS I LOVE JASON SO MUCH IM SO GLAD I MET HIM😭🫶🏽💗
More mothers nd to be open and truthful with their children
i just loveeeeeeeeeeeeee this mother! it's a great away to talk about it

As a writer this was a very helpful interview
4:58 He is talking about JD Vance °_° !!
Thank you
Thank you!!
"...the other person is not a piece of furniture." What a missed opportunity for a JD Vance joke. Just sayin;...
The opportunity was not missed…”furniture” was just subtle.
Jordan is a smart guy..
Jason Reynolds what a beautiful Man
"What hole do you think you're filling right there?"
Love Wins!
Thanks Man.

Be accepting of yourself and others simply as human beings.
Listen and talk less.
