hehe I am italian, I learned ancient greek at school but now I dont remember it enough, but I am still interested in in the lyric parts of Pindar, Sophocles and the riddle of the alexadrian task called "kwlizein" about this activity there is a 300 years long battle between italians and english-german people, just this week I read the origins of these problems, exactly in 1809 when A. Boeckh (re?)discovered the ancient lyric verse. Then I am trurly interested in "less ancient" music too, best of all in asymmetrical mixed meters, therefore to Megalo Mikis (Theodorakis): so I started from asymmetrical meters of Bulgaria, then Pontiakà, then Florina (levendikos), then again Mikis and hearing àxiòn esti (I put the accents as in ancient greek, not as today àxion estì) again to tsàmikos and zagorissios hehe I would say 6 months long: I only read ancient greek metrics and rhythmics (both from the italian - Urbino - school and the competitors from Oxford - they sometime change the text of ancient papyri just to be always righ hehehe,but i am lucky and Andrea tessier discovered them in an book hehehe), then other 6 months without reading, instead only hearing greek-mikrà asìa music. wonderful! ;) geia sou. PS: the most difficult task: understanding the activity of greek (cretan) scholars in Venetia in the time after Triclinius 1330 and Manuzio's editions. Alexandrian work went lost for unknown reasons and Demetrius Triclinius from Thessaloniki (re)discovered their activity. very interesting. so....a mixture of philology and music :)
+Andrea Dobetti You mean that they changed the lyrics and the rythmics just to listen good in their own way ? Also I'm happy hearing that you learned ancient Greek in school .Try to listen to folk music also .Folk Greek music from Hepirus , Thrace ,Macedonia , Roumeli etc.
