    Hi I have a 72 GMC C20. I pulled the AC unit off. The door wasn’t opening and of course there was trash in there. Everything seems pretty decent, but the door needs new rubber weatherstripping around it. Was wondering what you charge to do this, seal the unit and test it and maybe put a new POA valve, thank you!

    Spent better than an hour trying to locate the resistor today on a 72 C10. Who woulda thunk it? Found the ground wire wasn't connected to the new relay was actually my fix. Have all 3 speeds now. Somebody has been replacing parts on this one. The end of the capillary tube on new TVX was hanging outside of the gummy tape. They doubled the line back like the OE but this one has about a 3/4" long coiled section that wasn't touching anything. How much 134A should this take? It was cooling pretty well at 2.25 lbs but belt slippage was pretty bad and tried to lock compressor. Will try to tighten belt. First POA valve system I've ever messed with and i been doing this stuff for 40+ years.

      Original r12 charge was 3.25lbs. 134a should be around 80% of that. The two most important things when doing the 134a conversion are the poa valve being recalibrated and the original tube and fin condenser being replaced with a parallel flow condenser. Also need good air flow across that condenser.

      I'll let the owner know about condenser issue. Will see what happens with POA tomorrow.

      And yeah on most models the resistor was on the a.c. box as oppose to inside the heater box like the 67-72 trucks

      Depends on condition. If parts were good, $800 for ac unit and heater Box rebuild

    I have a 73 C20 with a standalone vent unit bolted under the dash, I would like to get that one going but most shops just direct me to oldair.com or vintageair. Do you know anyone in Houston that may be willing to assist in getting mine rebuilt? Thanks!

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  6 років тому

      Daniel Chamorro the only company I know that restores underdash units is the one I used to work for, classic auto air in Tampa Florida.

    Can a guy find the metal faceplate fir the ac housing ?
    As well as the sheet metal insert riveted inside of the heater core housing box ?
    Mine are both rotten

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 роки тому

      The sheet metal panels to either the ac unit or heater box are not reproduced. You will have to source them from donor boxes

    • @cdnbroncolife1889

      Classic Ride Society thank you for the quick reply
      Oh no, that doesn’t sound like an ez task
      Damn

    • @cdnbroncolife1889
      @cdnbroncolife1889 4 роки тому

      Classic Ride Society they are intact enough that a guy can drill out the rivers and maybe get them reproduced ?

    • @cdnbroncolife1889
      @cdnbroncolife1889 4 роки тому

      Classic Ride Society fir the ac housing it’ll be tough I think but the heater core box should be easy

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 роки тому

      @@cdnbroncolife1889 unfortunately yes, good sheet metal panels from ac units are more challenging to find.
