A Dress Disaster

- The plaintiff hired the defendant to make a dress for a black-tie event, but she says it didn’t look like the design she chose, so she’s suing. The defendant insists he drew and designed the dress just fine. He is countersuing for the balance owed on the dress.

The fact that she had to wear the dress for the rest of the case and into the hallway is killing me 😩😂😩😂
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
She was mad mad.
😂😂😂 I’m not a fan of the gathering either, but it’s a nice dress and she looks cute in it. As an artist I would refuse to make an exact replica of another designer’s dress for this reason and more. I’d offer to make something similar, in my own artistry.
It’s even grown on her ❤😂😂😂😂
I do believe she picked a design that’s not for her body type, and then picking a wrong material for it didn’t help.
This is a case where customer is not always right. As someone had said in a comment above, he could had talked to her about a design that would have flatter her shape, but then she may would have said he was being rude.
@@greatlakezgirl649
Totally agree with you. I believe She'd be offended 🤔
and also the wrong color
These women have magic mirrors. This is why so many designers only design for a certain body type, namely skinny women. She picked a dress that was not for her body type and changed the materials.
@@greatlakezgirl649not quite, a faux wrap dress is cut a little higher on the waist so it can camouflage her problem area her stomach. I think they both were wrong she changed the design too much and he made the dress that he thought would look better on her. I use to design and I know exactly what she wanted but the material was too heavy to flow exactly as she wanted.
I love how he respectfully asked what Candice’s name was and wasn’t rude about it. He seems really professional and he worked with what he was given.
I feel he was very defensive, like a criticism of his work
I feel he was very defensive, like a criticism of his work
@@kac4klhc977 nah 😂
@@kac4klhc977no he wasn’t lmao
As a designer, your work is your reputation and representation, he should always be honest with his clients. If the client is insistent, send them elsewhere or let them sign a waiver
As a plus size woman, please know the picture and what you want will never be the same. Her attitude is ridiculous. She ordered a completely different dress when she changed the fabric. The dress came out nice and looked good on her. What more does she want? Not to mention that she was cutting it close to the due date of her event
I think for any size woman, it's never going to be exactly how you like it.
Right! I don't even know what kind if dress she was seeing in her imagination but with that fabric it wasn't going to happen.
She on the heavy side too no disrespect but yea
Agree.
That blue dress is for a anorexia person not a plus size person...
The material was hideous to begin with! It started out matronly BEFORE he did a thing to it! 🤮
The material would have been beautiful if it was on the type of dress it was designed for
Agreed! That looks like a dress my great-grandmother would wear in the 1900's...
@@aliciaatkinsgreene2440
Right! It didn't look matronly, it looked antique-ish, like 19....30's??
Not matronly😂😂😂
Exactly @lulusmom5920,that color and material was all wrong and looked nothing like the dress pictured😂
"I want a dress like this, but nothing like this." 😂😂 She changed everything about the dress except the faux wrap.
Literally she sounds like she is confused at what she wants
I was cringing every time she mispronounced “faux”. My word. 😂😂 At first I thought she said false wrap, by the second time she said I realized she was meaning faux.
The dress is matronly not attractive for her sorry darling it’s ugly
Exactly 😂😂😂
Judge Milian lying talking about gorgeous, she looks like Kizzy in Roots 😁😁
The plaintiff didn't choose a design that would flatter her body type. Both of the designs she chose (the first being slightly better) were for a taller, straighter build. The fabric was a bad choice as well. She redesigned exactly what she got. I think it would have been much better to let the designer work with her form as opposed to day dreaming a new self in a magical dress. Blond hair won't make you beyonce nor, will a dress turn you into the model.
Exactly
lol, we now equate blonde hair with Beyonce. lolololololol
Boom
Make-up does more to change your appearance than a dress does.
Maybe I'm vain, but there's NO WAY I would have agreed to wear a dress that I hate, enough to file a lawsuit over, in public let alone on tv. The judge should not have asked her to either. If the plaintiff had to model it, for the case's evidence, then she should have asked her to do so in private chambers!
She is wild AF... she "un se xy'd" up that dress then got mad it looked matronly. He did a great job in that dress. His skills are great. Im glad he won.
AGREED.
He actually has talent. Dress is well done.
She's ratchet. Who does fitting over texts and constantly changing her mind for 300 funky Dollars ghetto.
Exactly she is just built bad
Agreed 👍🏽
😂 Watching the plaintiff stand on national tv, lose her case and then have to walk out of court in the dress she told the defendant she wouldn’t dare step outside and be seen in is hilarious!! Why did JM do her like that? 😂😂😂😂😂
Wow, lost the case and then left wearing the dress she hates.😂😂
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao why did she even use that pic? She wanted a TOTALLY DIFFERENT DRESS…even down to the color and fabric. They are NOTHING alike. Nothing. Not one single similar thing. Choose a different photo that *actually* represents what you want. I think she disappointed herself cause she kept thinking about the silk dress.
As a seamstress, sometimes it’s our responsibility to educate our clients on appropriate fabrics for certain looks but it always up to the client since it’s their money. They don’t always listen. We should also be educating the client on what looks best on their body type.
Very true, I’ve brought stuff to a tailor and tell them what I had in mind, they recommend something else and I’ve always went with it and looked greT
Very diplomatic and accurate comment.
Bingo! Excellent point 🎉
So true. The green dress was nice but it was all wrong for her body type. That's why she said it looked matronly; because it did look that way on her body.
On the other hand, if the defendant designed that outfit he was wearing, Kanye should stop making trash bag clothes and hire this guy to do the designing.
:)
Her body is the issue. She doesn't understand her size, and her image of being thinner doesn't correlate to the dress design. Cant put a big girl in a dress and make her thin.
I didn’t wanna say it but that’s exactly what I was thinking.
Agree
Yes. Agreed
agree, i have this same issue shopping for myself. it ALWAYS looks better on a model, no matter how much i will it, i will not look like what i see in the picture 😂
Agreed. Same issue with me because I'm busty and hippy so dress fall like a box on me or I look like a sausage in a sausage casing 😂😂
I love how folks try to double sue. No, ma'am, even if she would win her case, she's not going to get a full refund and money for a whole new dress.
Yes that's was too much !
Exactly! Why on earth, would you be entitled, to a refund, and a free dress? You’re not! Can’t stand people that double dip
Not folks, BLACKS PEOPLE, it’s always blacks wanting a payday.
Yeah, cause some people just plain greedy & ungrateful. Also, I think a lot of people that go through the trouble of taking someone to court tells them somehow that they can ask for a heck of a lot more than what they should get, but glad JM explains they are not entitled to sue for excess! 😮
She thought she deserve both the refund and a free dress umm no.
I love that she had to walk out of court in the dress. 😂
That completely took me out 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think the designer did a good job with what he had to work with as far as her body type, the material she chose, and her last minute changes. Good job young man.
That fabric was not right for that dress, but she wanted it.
Because she’s not a designer 😂
He may not have given her the dress she wanted, BUT with her body size, he gave her the dress she needed. A designer with vision gotta love him!! ❤️❤❤
lol it had nothing to do with her size. She changed the fabric and that’s why he had to make it different.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉😅😅😅😅
The defendant is a dress magician. Just looking at the sketches, the dress and the texts, his attention to design and versatility clearly shows. He has nothing to feel depressed about, you did well sir.
Really....not with that lace
Yes! He's very talented. And surely doesn't charge a lot!
The dress he created looks exactly like the drawing he produced.
I just want to add that the dress STILL would have looked matronly even if the plaintiff was a smaller size. It's purely the material and design changes. We've probably all seen someone's granny in the same style. The heavy lace did no favors. Rarely does, no matter your size.
Agree! I think the material she chose was hideous. Heavy, thick material AND lining…it was a disaster waiting to happen. The designer did the best he could with what he had.
Completely agree the material is like a Dolly for a teacup very oldish looking
The young lady has a false view of her body image! No way is she going to look like the picture😂
That's not what she asked
Yeah she does. I was thinking the same thing 🤦🏽♀️
He got sued twice in the people’s court over bad dresses.
Defendant seems like a super nice guy and I would love to have a dress made by him! Seems like another case of the plaintiff seeing a dress they can't afford and then expecting an independent designer to make them a perfect replica (and in this case, with a bunch of weird changes that completely alter the design!).
I Love how the camera zoomed out to show us his outfit at the end. He’s very talented.
I love how the friend looked away at the end when Doug pointed out the designer fixed her dress. She sat through the whole case but then had that whole “dont put me in it” look. 🤣
Exactly, lmbo. I had to rewind or whatever to catch it.
@@crystalshaw8744🤔 Didn't catch that 😅
I'm heading straight to rewind 😂
😂🤭
“ Chile I’m here but I liked my dress…😬”
😂😂😂😂😂
The friend said in the courtroom she didn’t like her dress either and that her dress wasn’t what she asked for as well 🤦🏽♀️ ay dios mio
He made a beautiful dress and she was very ungrateful.....I'm glad he won! Keep designing young man. I hope to see your designs on a future runway💯
She seems to think that just because she doesn't like the way the dress looks on her that he did something wrong
@@Nevaeh1what cases do y’all be watching? Reading these comments I be wondering if I’m watching the same ones.
He didn’t do what she asked wether it was beautiful or not to you. And he only won because it was a contract case. It literally came out her own mouth on what she wanted and the dress looked nothing like that. So comment again for me, what did he do for her that was right?
Furthermore, the judge said she didn’t give him a chance to CORRECT it. Which implies he didn’t do it right. He’s just lucky the law was on his side with that contract
@@Reefy1993that other dress wouldn't fit her right either....she wanted like that ...she got it
That was one ugly dress
What planet you on?
She complained the dress looks matronly…but she’s built matronly 😂😂😂😂
⚰️😂
Built like a granny😂
Exactly .
She kept that slinky silk dress in mind when asking for a lined, long sleeve, lace gown.
it’s a beautiful dress tbh. it seems like plaintiff just didn’t voice what image she had correctly and the defendant did the best he could with what pertinent information she’d allow him.
now that i’m getting to the ending, she looks gorgeous in it and the defendant and judge are right. no one would offer to fix one dress and not the other. the friend is just there for backup in attempt to win the case, but does not prevail. people should just be happy with what they get. he could’ve charged waaayy more than $350 🤣
Thats exactly what happened! And she also cut it close as far as the time frame goes. In most of these cases the plaintiff doesn't allow enough time from when the initial request is made, and then to make any changes if necessary, then to the date she needs the garment by.
The dress is ugly. Looks like a grandma dress.
some customers are never satisfied
I agree I thought it was a very pretty dress and the color looked so good on her. Getting dresses made is always a risk. The vision we have in our head is not always reasonable and it’s not for everybody. He did a great job
The defendant walked into the courtroom like, 'boomshakalaka, the dress-maker-has-arrived! The dress was beautiful. The plaintiff's attitude of entitlement was trash. She made changes and had an unrealistic view on how the dress should fit. He was willing to support her alterations request within reason, yet she was stuck on an image that didn't match her shape. Fair ruling!
Your so on point with your comment.. The way you want to invasion yourself in a dress is totally opposite of what reality is. 😅
I would have never taken it because she made too many changes. She has to realized that what you imagine and what is reality is going to be somewhat different. And what looks good on another body, especially a slim person, compared to a larger person is going to be a completely different fit.
Yes, it's like she put it on and it didn't make her look 100pounds smaller 🙄
I'm a full figured woman and know how different fabrics fit on me. Lord knows why she would want fabric underneath and expect it to flow. Silly gyal.
I agree the dress isn't flattering but the plaintiff chose the material. She didn't allow the defendant to fix the problem using the same material she chose.
Judge played her 😂 made her try on the dress an leave wearing it 🤣 Plaintiff was so mad 😠 oh dear.
love the defendant’s outfit he is rocking it so cool. ❤
😂😂😂
If I was a designer, and somebody walked in (1) and showed me she wanted a dress 5 sizes bigger than a picture, and in a different fabric, I would turn them down instantly! That's too many warning bells for me!)
1. (I'd insist on in person-- to look for "red flags!")
I agree with verdict. Even though the dress is matronly and has fit issues, the plaintiff should have stayed on top of things.
Dealing with designers, she needed to show him exactly what she needed. Talking on the phone just will not do. The fabric choice was the first mistake. Once she okayed that fabric, she already veered into a more matronly style of dress.
It’s a pretty dress, but it’s not flattering to her body shape. It looks like a Mother of the Bride dress. 😬🙅♀️
Lace material can have that effect, especially when lined.
@@marcia1248forgive me what does lined mean?
@@rplayer360There's a fabric material "lining" the inside of the dress, a layer underneath the lace so it's not see-thru.
@@thatvalensteingirl thank you for taking the time to tell me
That dress is absolutely gorgeous. I’m not sure what she’s complaining about. The fabric is beautiful. The workmanship is gorgeous. He did an amazing job.
She didn’t want a dress that made her look like an older woman
@@kay22100It was her doing and her fault.
I'm not crazy about the fabric, but he did what he said he could do given her specs. I honestly think she would have been unhappy with anything he did, unless he had been given license to make her a dress for her body type using his vision and skills.
If "mother of the bride" is what you are going for! 😂🤣😂🤣
Anthony the designer was a GREAT SPORT!! That dress was AWESOME!! I also felt the lady tho, because as a woman if you dont like something YOU JUST DONT LIKE IT! It coulda been a Gucci dress still don’t care or don’t want anymore! Buyers remorse!
the fact that she left the courtroom wearing the dress after losing the case🤭
Lol 😂
Of course the dress can't look like the one she wanted, she's a lot heavier.
And that lace pattern isn't going to flow and move like silk. She would have been happier with a dress that had more movement, like a silk or chiffon, than a heavy lace dress with lining.
She would have looked better too. Flowy fabrics are more flattering than a stiff lace that looks aged.
The moment he spoke I knew he was a talented, hardworking Guyanese, that beautiful accent. Congratulations on the winning the case, my Guyanese brother 🇬🇾 ❤
I don’t understand why she shows a pic of a 100 pound model wearing a dress when she’s like 250.. of course that style is basically impossible for her
The dress he made was beautiful for her figure, she looks great in it. Unfortunately some women don't understand what will not look good for their body shape. The best dressmakers will create a design that flatters the body shape of their client. She just could not appreciate the efforts he put in.
The dress I ugly even for a fat woman
I don't like the dress either...i def wouldn't wear it.
@@Jsarmy87124well she got what she asked for
@@whathappensinenugushe got what’s she asked for
The problem with the Dress is the gathering of the waistline 🤔
That's why it looks so matronly on her otherwise with enough time and clear communication she would have a beautiful dress 🤗
She wants to look like a runway model when she isn't one. He created a dress that was the most flattering for her figure. What we think we look like and what we truly look like are two different things.

Judge Milian is always 💯 spot on right. If the customer continues to make changes, then they don't know how materials function together.
I believe she left unsatisfied. If it's good enough to walk away from an offer by the Defendant to fix it. Then you made the final decision. Period
It's so funny when she walks out with the dress on 😂😂😂😂😂
Sooooooooo fckn funny 🤣
Her vision was not right for her body type and once she saw it in real life she wanted her money back. Thats why she didn't want him to fix it because she knew it was a far reach and she would never be satisfied
Yes that model didn't have any curves she does
"If it does not fit, I'm ready to quit"!!! Mans turned to Johnny Cochran!!!
The defendant deserved to win this case. He did everything he was asked to do. I believe what others have said that, she picked a dress and material that did not work well with her body type. Hopefully it is a lesson learned
I love it when a defendant wins their counter-suit and the plaintiff loses their case. The plaintiff says it looks matronly, but she has a 'matron' body, plus she chose a thick fabric, which once lined will be like curtain material. The fabric itself is very beautiful, but her adjustments turned it into a frumpy dress...
Glad he won. He made a beautiful dress.
It’s a beautiful dress. I think she changed her mind last minute and in order to back out of the contract she had to say it’s not what she asked for.
that’s really hard to do with a completely different material. he did a great job on it and he really showed that he wanted to make her happy.
Guurrrrrrll! That dress is well made!!
Do not follow this woman’s fashion advice😂😂😂
I wish they would have showed the red dress, that one looked cute! The plaintiff kept changing her mind on her dress, I am not sure if anything he made would have made her happy. She should have tried on a bunch of dresses to see what looked best on her body and made her feel confident beforehand.
She needed a much lighter, flowy fabric and an empire waist. The dress is definitely unflattering to her body. It’s giving “ mother of the church”.
she is 200LBS and wants to look like 95. no dress can do that. He made wat she wanted. Sorry
It IS matronly, but so is her shape. The confines of the fabric type and MASSIVE adjustments to the original including lining it made it impossible to accomplish her original vision. Its pretty but not youthful.
That green dress is so beautiful! His prices are pretty cheap compared to what designers actually charge.
Is she trying to say FAUX wrap slit, but she keeps saying fox🦊🦊🦊?
I thought she was saying "false". But, I have a hearing deficit.
Also, what does the fox 🦊 say?
"Wear a dress that compliments your figure, not that tries to change it."
🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊
I JUST watched another court case with this dude effing up someone else's dress. He must be on a roll...giggle. As Dave Chappelle would say, he be effing up...giggle
I love Dave Chappelle! He's frickin hilarious! 😂
She changed the dress completely from the photo and she isn't the same size or build. Of course its not going to look or be the same!
The dress is beautiful. All she needs to do is have the waist taken in and wear a shaper garment. The color is amazing on her. But the visual design was not a good fit for her body type. Glad he won!
“Fox” wrap 🤔? Oh…. FAUX wrap! Got it 😂!
I think the dress is lovely, and that it looked beautiful on her. It just needed some additional alteration, in my humble opinion.
Fair verdict.
Plaintiff thinks she’s a supermodel. She needs to buy a mirror.
As soon as I saw that dress on the hanger, I said GRANDMA!!!!
I thought of the color purple movie Sofia would have worn that
The fact that I just watched another episode for making a prom dress and got sued for bad work and he's on this episode is too much 😅😂. Yall mustve missed that episode 😂😂
If the dress had been made with the waistline just a few inches higher, more like an empire waist, and belted, it would not have looked so bad on her body type. But - - it is on the plaintiff, not the designer. He seems very talented.
Carlos walked in like you better stop playing with my name!
Like dress in picture better. She changed it and made it ugly.
she was sooooo mad when she walked out 😭😭😭 this was very satisfying to watch 😂
She was stomping! 😂
Did she ever stop and say I don’t look like the girl in the picture like gworl 😂😂
I'm here from another video.. I cant believe he was on here TWICE lololol
Why did she pick a green dress for a black-tie affair??
Because men wear black tuxedos and women wear different colored dresses.
It’s really bad. I agree. But she made so many changes and used a fabric that would never achieve the look she wanted.
The defendant was excellent. Obviously a skilled designer and dress maker. The plaintiff changed everything, playing designer, but without the talent, vision, or experience.
This defendant produced a dress to her specifications in VERY little time. And he was willing to fix it!
I'm sure he will gain clients and be able to increase his prices after this appearance on People's Court. The price he charged her was very inexpensive for what he produced. He's got talent!
HE HAS BEEN ON HERE TWICEEEEE! I’m watching another episode with him right now. Called “Prom Dress Problems” 😂
I thought he looked familiar!
The dress looked liked the sketch he showed her.. I loved his confidence when he said, “ If it doesn’t fit. I quit!”
I loved the way he positioned the lace appliqué on the neckline, it was attention to detail
Even though the dress might be seen as " matronly " it does look to be very well made, and although it doesn't fit the plaintiff's style, it is well-made and I hope she stands tall and wears it in the future with pride.
The defendant did a really good job of adapting the design, and with a few adjustments can make it fit the way the plaintiff desires - she just needs to give him a chance to tighten up the areas where she would like it to fit her body in a more flattering way than a matronly one, and show off some of the curves in her body that she is proud of. I think this is one of the cases where the defendant can be proud of the work he did, and should have been given the chance to make it fabulous.
Lol!! Oh my! Honestly, I think what she wanted & how she “envisioned” herself was definitely NOT going to happen with that particular dress.
Plus she said the other dress that SHE bought on her own, she wasn’t happy with either! So I get the feeling there’s NOTHING or NOBODY that can make her happy!!
Glad JM didn’t rule in her favor cause no one should have to pay for her inability to be satisfied! (That sounds weird but I think most people know what I mean). 😮
I am so glad the designer won because being a fashion designer myself I dislike when people want to come ask for custom dress with no experience on making a dress, that’s why I don’t offer custom anymore , there is a big change that happens from sketch to fabric selection to fitting and a lot of the times the final garment doesn’t even look like the sketch, only designers and dress makers will tell you this, but for clients asking for custom they just think is like ordering food and adding ingredients and it will be all set, is very different let designers be designers ….
Lace always makes you look older. She should have went with lined silk and an empire waist.
Her size doesn't lend to the waistline, she was looking for.
She doesn't realize that speaking on the phone to somebody is not proof, She has to be able to prove everything she's saying. So even if she would have gotten a chance to tell the judge that it wouldn't make a difference.
Yep. . . This defendant is in the most recent video too. He aint as nice in that one 🤣
When he saw where he was going he probably told himself to act better T_T
Short time period and he had to keep making changes she asked for. The problem is obviously an image one. She thought that the dress was going to change HER, instead of loving the beautiful lady she already is.
Such a lovely thing to say; I hope the defendant reads your comment! ❤
When one is not familiar with fabric types they have no idea how things fall. Dressmakers usually wind up making two dresses to prove a point. Being a dressmaker can be a headache.; but also rewarding.
Good designer wonder if he do men jackets. Have to look him up.
8:10 Jamaican Cochran over here 😂😂😂 i fell out my chair
As a bigger gal myself, you have to be careful with those dresses. Especially shopping using body types that are not similar to your own.
She wanted to look like the pic but she’s not shape like the lady in the pic
That tweak on the orange juice quote made me freaking lose it😂😂😂😂
I feel the waistline for the dress is in the wrong spot and should be higher up it makes her look bigger and older also it appears she is insecure with her body
Yeah the dress was not flattering on her - for a young girl
But she learned a lesson to stay on the design and fitting for the future
How is she going to tell him, I want you to make me this dress but don't make it look like this dress. And turns around and says it don't look like the picture. Give me my money back. Some people I tell ya.
Raise the waist ruching higher, below bosom. Adjust the neckline to a sweetheart neckline, and create sleeves that aren't as tight
The plaintiff sounds like she's a hard to please person, no matter what he did to try and please her she wasn't satisfied especially after changing her mind a couple of times..she wanted a freebie bottom line....I liked what he said if it doesn't fit he was going to quit! 😂😂
