Thank you for this invaluable video. I’m currently feeling discouraged to apply to graduate school just because of the time it has taken for me to get my BA and although I received an okay GPA upon graduating I still feel I’m not good enough at least for the schools I’m aiming for.
There is no rule that says you have to go to grad school. Some of the most successful people I know got bad grades and never went to grad school. Try out other things. Grow your experience with jobs, internships, etc. You can always decide later if grad school is right for you.
This was extremely helpful and encouraging for me. Thank you for your honesty as well as your motivation. I would love to connect with you, as I’m pursuing an MBA myself.
This is a great video and is spot on. Wish I had seen it a year ago, however, I ended up doing all of these things mentioned on my own and did get into a couple great grad schools (as well as rejected from one). These are the exact things I would recommend. They definitely worked for me.

Many universities are open to lower GPAs if you can demonstrate growth. For example, if you have work experience that shows your abilities. They need evidence that you can be successful. They also are understanding that some people had struggles in school that made it difficult to focus on classes. Some schools even have a GPA statement that people can submit if they have low GPAs.

Thank you so much for this video! Really, thank you! This is my situation, I have a bachelor's degree that I earned back in 2014 with a very very very low GPA (2.3) due to health issues and medication that caused me a physical disability. However, last year in 2022, I earned a master's degree from Harvard University - HES- with a GPA of 3.89. My goal is to apply to HBS (Harvard Business School) Ph.D. So, which GPA will the admission officers consider the most? What are my chances? Thank you very much! :)
Thank you so much for this amazing video :D Actually, I also had a tough time during my second year when I was studying mechanical engineering(Bachelor degree) at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand (my home country), therefore my GPA ranged from 2.77-3.29 for each semester. Fortunately, from my junior year until the last semester, I was recovered from my mental health, and my GPA turned out to range from 3.33-3.71 for each semester. I finally became top 20% of students of my undergrad school even if my average GPA is 3.15( for all semester) "Do you think I can write down these situations in my personal statement to show my improvement along the way to get my bachelor's degree to make my application outstanding from other applicants?" Moreover, two years ago, I was admitted into the most prestigious university in Japan which is the University of Tokyo. I put all of my effort to study and do much research during my grad student life here. As a result of this, I got a 3.92/4.00 GPA (4.00 for major subjects, top 1%) and got many experiences from research projects related to what I would like to study at UC Berkeley, UCLA, Umich as well as CMU.[I am planing to apply for a PhD program] According to my master's degree GPA and abundant research work I have done, do you think it will compensate for my undergrad GPA and help me distinguish myself from other competitors? You can start out by asking about resources they have for applicants. If you are part of an underrepresented group, ask if they have admission support services or if they can connect you with an office of diversity. You can ask if they can connect you with current students who are willing to talk about their experience in the program. Stuff like that.
Also please make a video on how to get into grad school after 3 years of undergrad. Because in some countries like the UK and India undergrad is of 3 years. I do know that some universities in Canada and America do accept 3 years undergrad.
I'm not that familiar with the process for international applicants. If you have met all the prerequisites, it shouldn't matter if the program was 3 years.
It depends on the school and program. For example for med school/law school, under a 3.5 is low. For programs ranked top 10, under a 3.3 might be considered low. For schools that are not that competitive under a 3.0 is low. However, even if you are on the low end, it's still possible to get into top programs if the rest of your application package is strong.
