That first roar. 🦁😳Absolutely terrifying. And that's just from watching the video from the safety of my home! It's astounding that a male lion could be so aware of the human presence, and openly aggressive towards it, yet on countless safaris, the lions completely ignore open-top cars filled with humans. Amazing.
Interestingly, I just watched a video on that very subject. Lions don't attack those in the open top cars because a) they are used to the cars being there. Safaris have been going on for over a century now. They will have been around the entire lions lifetime. b) the lions don't see the humans as being a separate entity to the vehicles, they just see one larger creature (the car) that is non-threatening. If any of those inside the car stand or get out of the car, then the lion will see them as a separate entity and that's when they become prey. Lions possibly regard cars as being non-edible parts of nature similar to rocks and 'buildings'. They possibly regard those monkey like creatures that grow out of the back of these 'creatures' as being likewise non-edible. I'm guessing the lion reacted to the person in the kitchen as he could see the person within the large space inside the building and realised it was separate from its surroundings. i.e. Prey.
He was aggressive because a lioness was in heat near him. This video is the shortened version. Plus the man kept walking towards him which the cat took as aggression. When you are in a vehicle you are up high and not moving, which makes a difference.
I flinched when the lion roared, I'm 1000s miles away watching on UA-cam at a later date. Meanwhile the cameraman a few feet away in an open building didn't flinch!

Thanks for clarifying in your description. It brings me some measure of calm. I thought the usual behaviour for the lions would be to avoid human settlements especially because they can be too noisy and loud noises scare or agitate them animals. Seeing one so close to a dwelling made me nervous - lions are not known to hunt in human settlements - but I see the description says it's likely because he was guarding a female who was using the human settlement likely in an effort to get rid of him.
