I've been in this industry for 17 years. I started my freshman year of high-school, at the age of 15. I've seen a lot over the years and have learned so much, and continue to. Getting others ideas, and thought process really helps to think outside the box. I really enjoyed your video. You're tips and advice is incredibly spot on. It's a relief to know there are others out there with like minds. I truly enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing! Cheers 🍻
Hello, I saw your this video I believe 3-4 years ago. Came across recently and I would like to thank you since I started my own business in cell phone repairs. Currently we have 5 stores. Just wanted to thank you as you were one of the motivators.
I can relate to the point you made about working for cheap, I was a mechanic, still am sometimes. I've had SO many people come to me wanting me to fix stuff for near free, buy the parts with my own money, then wait to be paid and sometimes not get paid. Happened more than once. Just because I don't have an actual shop anymore they think they can get to me. They play the sympathy game and all that waa waa I don't have the money, I REALLY need my car to get to work so I can pay you....etc.
Wow thanks. I'm an accountancy graduate. But last week I decided to become a phone repair technician because I love phones, laptops, media, communication and tech.
Mike, great video, I can tell you've been doing this for a while, and care about quality and not being the cheapest in town. Quite a detailed presentation about the state of the repair business nowadays. Unfortunately for whoever wants to get into this biz today, even into board level repair may have missed the boat... between 2000-2015 it was great, but lately it has started to decline, and with electronics getting cheaper and more reliable, there's just less of a demand for this. Now, I'm not saying it will disappear completely, but I feel it's just a bit too late to make a good living. Considering the high rents, saturated competition in your area, online competition, cheaper phone insurance plans, new flexible un-crackable screens coming out soon, even components being locked to a specific hardware, it may be wise looking into doing something else... this just in my humble opinion from someone who's been doing it since the 90's.
Nice video, like it. People need to ask themselves what is suitable and then can choose the one which can let their advantages work. "Play to your strengths"
great video man , I dabble with phones as a hobbie, but I work as a diagnostic tec in the motor trade, and almost everything you said in this video can be said about almost any trade , very interesting, I'm not living in the US so unfortunately I'll probably never make it to any of your courses , but I have to say I'll recommended this video to anybody who wants to open any sort of business, impressive stuff .
Nice video! I've recently started fixing phones for a profit and I think it can be really cool to learn all the different parts and methods. Keep it up!
It's alright saying that you can always watch youtube videos to your hearts content, about how to fix this or how to fix that etc, BUT NOT EVERYONE has the actual physical ability OR experience to do it AND RIGHT!
That's cool and a great way to start out. My question, and I mean this sincerely, is what happens if you break someones phone? Do they expect you to pay for it or do they assume the risk? When you do something for free it's hard for others to complain but if something does go wrong it's never a fun situation.
inyhr that can become a problem. Every time you learn something every one around want your service free. That is annoying because that can spread to friends of friends and it never end, pumping all your time and you still a pour son of a bitch, if I can express my self. Through my life I learn to discipline and boy the bees around honey, it never stop. In business there are no friends
Very informative and on point.. love the video. I subscribed b4 the end of the video 😊..This is confirmation for me as an electronics Tech that works on Smt (surface mount technology) everyday..I want to transition to micro electronics and fix smartphones to component level...Nuff respect sir 👍🏿👌🏿

All good points Bill and considering that this video is almost a year old I should probably create an updated version. I also plan to discuss this during my next livestream as it is a complex topic but in short we definitely need all factors to coincide in order to be successful at this point. Competition, location, and effective marketing considerations seem to be the most crucial in my opinion. As it has been for the last 5-10 years I think that we are okay for another 2-3 but difficult to say what happens after that. Diversifying into other electronics repair makes sense and whether or not the Right to Repair movement succeeds should have some bearing on our longevity. So far I am skeptical about unbreakable anything especially with the way that manufacturers are getting in on the repair revenue concept now but who knows? Phone insurance plans. Now that one does concern me especially as of late and with carriers pushing them at point of purchase. At the same time _someone_ has to fix those phones and the skill set of many techs employed by those bigger companies... well you can imagine. Anyways you got me thinking about a lot here. Thanks for the comment.
I'll check out your new video once it's out.... also other factors are the region of the country (east coast, west coast, midwest, north/south and in between, big/small cities, demographics etc. For example in smaller cities you don't need 10 repair shops unlike in larger cities one on every corner, like a shark tank the big fish eats the little fish. Then you got your "UA-cam machanics" who will say "oh why are you charging this or that, it only takes 5 minutes, I saw it on UA-cam" ... lol And then you have to contend with the Craig's list low-ballers, scammers, and crooks, etc. I'm also hearing that some manufacturers are experimenting with encapsulating the entire main board in a silicone coating, effectively solving the liquid damage problem for good... well good for them bad for us I guess.... ya well fun times ahead guys....
you must be more optimistic we and manufacturers on the same boat , they make phones unbreakable !! , we work less and they sell less .. that is simple .. and nothing still work good for ever
I have worked on the exact phone on your shirt as a kid, I'm retired now and got a degree in electronics between then and now, so just trying to learn about ins and outs of cell phone repair. Where do you learn all the tech stuff. I mean where is the damned bell in a cell phone. LOL I would also like to include TV, stereo or whatever electronics, not just phones, just to keep my options open.
Fantastic and an Awesome Video on Starting Cellphone Repair Business? A Very Dynamic and Innovative Field!! I am looking to Start My Own Cellphone Repair Business From Home within the next 3 months!!
Anyone out there can help me out with some info about phone repairs please give me a call I have been doing it for awhile now but need more info on it am from Jamaica and I would love some old tools to buy if do from abroad thanks much my cantact 8768381309
I really enjoyed this your explanation in this video, to be frank I like to go into smartphone/laptop repair business liked dismantling electronics and enjoyed listening to radio when I was a kid and I enjoy repairing things though I am a trader but I am not enjoying it at all so I am considering going into phone /Laptop repair but the problem I have now is my age, at 50 years of age can I still make it in that field?
Nice video! I just started a business on my own here in the netherlands. Worked before in a official samsung repair service center. The only thing I need is a lot of customers :P lol
Awesome and thank you! I'll be publishing some videos in the future that go more into detail about running a repair business. Hopefully you'll find those helpful too.
ConsoleFreakAnthoney hey I got a question since you worked at Samsung I got a phone from eBay its a Samsung mega 6.3 not sure what model it is has no os install just twrp recovery I install roms but I'm getting message set warranty bit kernal I was told to install stock os but not sure what model I got is it somewhere in the logicboard / motherboard where I can find out? thanks
Hey! I found this so informative. I've a question or two. If I am not ready to go independent with my own business yet, can I work for other businesses? Or get training, and work for them? I am considering Phone/ repair, and looking into. :)
Wonderful and insightful video! I an a retired computer engineer and an electronics hobbyist of 40 years. I bought the equipment I didn't have and 50 broken phones to practice with. My intention is to eventually pursue this as a retirement business. You have given me much food for thought. Can you forward me to your website for you class offerings?
It's probably not much profitable in the US where buying a new phone is somewhat easy. Here in Brazil (and other latin american coutries) a cellphone is something really expensive that you may take months or even years to buy. So, if your phone breaks, it's much cheaper to get it repaired so people are always looking for repair services. Of course this is much better (environmentally speaking), no one needs a new phone when you can just fix the one you already have.
At this time, at least in the US, I am not aware of any specific certification that is universally accepted despite some organizations that would represent themselves as such. In most cases, you can take a basic repair course from a number of different companies, learn on the job, or get experience practicing on your own.
Great vid and advice! I've never really thought of doing this as a career it's always just been something I've enjoyed! I'm definitely going to start making a business even if I just start small, I might as well do something with my knowledge lol 😊👍
Well that is a long way heh but maybe there are a few things that might benefit you online. I have a podcast about once a week and next Monday I'll start live streaming a discussion of phones and repair related topics here. If you want to join it will be at 2PM Pacific Standard Time which is probably around 10PM where you are? Of course you can always watch after the fact.
Great video! I know an iPhone repair service abroad that fixes phones at a very low price, do you think it would be a good idea to create a site here in the UK that works in partnership with the company abroad (after i have contacted them and proposed my idea) and sends the broken phones abroad to be fixed. It sounds like a lot of money can be made if I just act like the 'middle man', but how trustworthy will my site look to customers?
I believe that your biggest challenges would be marketing and turnaround time. Not to say that it couldn't work but no one ever does a job the way that you would so quality would be a big concern too. Also how much can you add on to the repair fee including double shipping?
Please elaborate. Is cell phone repair not profitable anymore? A friend of mine knows a person in NJ who repairs phones but from home, this person has fixed his phones. It appears he is making decent money. I was thinking about learning cell phone repair and starting my own business. Is it worth it? Or too saturated now?
Go phone cell repair can you please give a way to contact you. I am highly interested in starting a side business of repair. I would love your input and help to get started.
Yes! I can't say when as I'll have to do that as time permits and when the less common problems- like other than screen replacements- show up but that's definitely part of the plan. I spend a lot of time training at the moment but it's on the to do list for sure.
I started out the same way as you did but, I've also done industrial repair and server manufacture. But, who pays well nowadays? I''ve done quite a bit and the pay is still pretty crappy. I was thinking of basing a repair company from home, not just phone but, electronics in general as long as it doesn't conflict with my non-compete agreement. Yeah, jobs pay you very little and don't want any competition from former employees. I guess I'm really just frustrated bout the low pay for the most part. Where can you go or what could you do to make a better salary? And do you think telecom is still worth being bothered with? you know KSU's and Voice mail systems.
Hey, I love your videos. I can fix phones pretty well but I been having a quality control issue. The some of the screens that I purchase comes broken. With that said, my question is how should I go about finding a good parts company?
That is a very tough question to answer. First of all where are you located? I can point you to a few suppliers in the US but that list changes every so often. You find someone good and over time start to experience something called "quality fade." The best option is to find a vendor who will come to you and deliver while picking up any defective parts. That way you inspect them in from of the person selling them to you.
There are some repair shops in malls. Most are either standing or in plazas/strip malls at least here in the US. They aren't hard to find at least in most major cities.
Hey brother. Been watching your videos and it is really inspiring. Could you do videos of repairing smartphones? Like complete tutorial of finding fault in Smartphone PCB. Please been looking for it for a very long time and the only thing that i always found about repairing smartphones is from india wich is cant understand it.. ill be waiting and hoping for it. Thankyou so much!!!
um... there's no telling what the future will bring. i'm still waiting for those universal language translator fishes to stick in my ears, like in "So Long and Thanks For All The Fish" by Douglas Adams yup it's the 2nd book of Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy trilogy. 🎶☮️🖖🎶Maybe robot repair man would be better, people will have malfunctioning Musk Robots. 🎶☮️🖖🎶
True. It’s all relative to your goals I suppose. Most repairs these days are modular component replacement but lots of directions that you can go from there.
Bro stick to fixing phones you have a lot of valuable knowledge to offer but explaining it by UA-cam is not your strong point I promise I’m not bein rude or a hater or nuthin u have real Info to offer that’s worth of value but maybe u should jus do tutorial videos like sped up n have someone with an interesting voice to narrate them or even an ebook dude but please no more 1980’s vibe Moms basement infomercial on local cable type videos like the amount of time you took giving that great Info for ppl and that little bit of editing with a phone showing what you’ve said 🤦♂️ you could have made a very better video again no shade just constructive criticism because you have the knowledge n know how u jus need a face n voice of your channel or w.e your goin for
Can you elaborate? It's still profitable in the US but adapting to the market is important. There are a lot of repair shops that fail due to fairly common mistakes.
A few to start with off the top of my head. 1. Trying to be the cheapest rather than the best. 2. Poor customer service. 3. Ineffective marketing. 4. Wasting time with low profit jobs/customers/employees. 5. Failing to maintain a positive online rep and good SEO.
I've been in this industry for 17 years.
I started my freshman year of high-school, at the age of 15. I've seen a lot over the years and have learned so much, and continue to. Getting others ideas, and thought process really helps to think outside the box.

You can only blame yourself. Stop letting people take advantage of your kindness. Grow some cohones. Trust me, it's not that hard.
Thats why you should start taking advances then work
Wow thanks. I'm an accountancy graduate. But last week I decided to become a phone repair technician because I love phones, laptops, media, communication and tech.

It's alright saying that you can always watch youtube videos to your hearts content, about how to fix this or how to fix that etc, BUT NOT EVERYONE has the actual physical ability OR experience to do it AND RIGHT!
I would say that possibly the biggest pain the butt is WHERE to get quality replacement parts
So true.
I just do it for friends and family, they only have to pay for the part
That's cool and a great way to start out. My question, and I mean this sincerely, is what happens if you break someones phone? Do they expect you to pay for it or do they assume the risk? Go Cell Phone Repair I'm skilled at it, that hasn't really happened to me yet so idk as of now

Hi , What is the current cellphone repair certificate in 2024 to get job?
At this time, at least in the US, I am not aware of any specific certification that is universally accepted despite some organizations that would represent themselves as such. In most cases, you can take a basic repair course from a number of different companies, learn on the job, or get experience practicing on your own.
Is foreign country scope for phone repair
When is your next in person teaching ?

Hey, I love your videos. I can fix phones pretty well but I been having a quality control issue. The some of the screens that I purchase comes broken. With that said, my question is how should I go about finding a good parts company?
That is a very tough question to answer. First of all where are you located? I can point you to a few suppliers in the US but that list changes every so often. You find someone good and over time start to experience something called "quality fade." The best option is to find a vendor who will come to you and deliver while picking up any defective parts. That way you inspect them in from of the person selling them to you.
Go Cell Phone Repair I like in Santee South Carolina, could you help me with the same problem?
I wish that I could but it's hard to know who delivers parts until they come to your place of business.
Where do you go that they repair your cell phone? The mall?
There are some repair shops in malls. Most are either standing or in plazas/strip malls at least here in the US. They aren't hard to find at least in most major cities.
I’ve had work on my phones in both places I’ve had at lest one give me a thirty day warranty.
Foreign countrys mein iska kitna scope hai
Not really a good idea, I work at repair shop at min wage, handling expensive devices with little to no advancement
Could that be more of a reflection on your employer than the industry itself?
There are a few predatory companies out there hiring for screen repair.
Yeah some are trying to treat techs like Uber does its drivers. I'll be doing an update to this video soon. Good thing to mention.
Hey brother. Been watching your videos and it is really inspiring.

But there are places that just teach you how to open and replace components. They actually don’t teach you real electronics.
True. It’s all relative to your goals I suppose. Most repairs these days are modular component replacement but lots of directions that you can go from there.
Bro stick to fixing phones you have a lot of valuable knowledge to offer but explaining it by UA-cam is not your strong point I promise I’m not bein rude or a hater or nuthin u have real Info to offer that’s worth of value but maybe u should jus do tutorial videos like sped up n have someone with an interesting voice to narrate them or even an ebook dude but please no more 1980’s vibe Moms basement infomercial on local cable type videos like the amount of time you took giving that great Info for ppl and that little bit of editing with a phone showing what you’ve said 🤦♂️ you could have made a very better video again no shade just constructive criticism because you have the knowledge n know how u jus need a face n voice of your channel or w.e your goin for
It's not profitable anymore.
Can you elaborate? It's still profitable in the US but adapting to the market is important. There are a lot of repair shops that fail due to fairly common mistakes.
Go Cell Phone Repair what would you say are the common mistakes?
Agreed.
A few to start with off the top of my head.
1. Trying to be the cheapest rather than the best.
2. Poor customer service.
3. Ineffective marketing.
4. Wasting time with low profit jobs/customers/employees.
5. Failing to maintain a positive online rep and good SEO.
Go Cell Phone Repair thanks for the response
You talk too much than teach
And your head looks like it was squeezed with forceps as a baby, what's your point?
