A number of people have made the comment that Dami is covering old songs on her Classic Carpenters album and some have wondered why she would do that rather than release new material. The clue is in the title. Dami has a classical musical background. Classical musicians "cover" classical compositions. Nobody ever asked Luciano Pavarotti or Yehudi Menuhin why they only covered old songs rather than make new ones or why the London Philharmonic orchestra keeps covering old Beethoven tunes. To Dami, to cover classical pop songs of timeless appeal is a perfectly logical extension of her musical influences and love. I'm sure that we'll see new songs from her all too soon but in the meantime we should be grateful that she has resurrected these beautiful old songs and breathed new life into them for a new generation.
