Will be listening to this high-quality diamond of an album all day today as my personal tribute to this royal, regal ancestor...thank you for being in my soul all these years....
When I was a kid, my father played this on the 8 track in his car. On long road trips, I cut my teeth on this and other jazz artists. What great memories.
I just inherited my brother-in-law's album collection that includes this album. While I'm sorting through em i decided to listen to all four tracks for the very first time to my ears; i'm amazed of not only of this album but of how he took care of each album... OMG! COVID 19 is the reason why he's gone so i dedicate this listening pleasure to Walter Upshaw (love & miss you...R.I.P.😢).
Still the best l have heard for over three decades. Q you are still the best and all time one the oldest legend that still got the groove and the wherewithal of what composition and harmony is all about. May the Lord Almighty bless you abundantly and exceedingly with long life full of health and happiness with prosperity.
*Bridge over troubled water* When you're weary Feeling small When tears are in your eyes I'll dry them all I'm on your side Oh, when times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you I'll take your part Oh, when darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Sail on silver girl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine Oh, if you need a friend I'm sailing right behind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind
thanks for posting this nathan i had copy of the vinyl back in south africa 1973 used to get zonked on durban poison/amsterdam acid and gaze out over the indian ocean from the south coast while listening this music made for brilliant eyelid movies thanks
I spun my copy on the night of 11/5/2024 hoping to avoid the inevitable and pay tribute to this music genius . I hadn't listened to it for awhile and the opening track just hit me like a ton of bricks and I cried.
Thanks for sharing. Just heard Hummin' on WWOZ and wanted to check out the whole record. Thinking this one might have to make it's way into my vinyl collection...
Tracey, if you enjoyed this album, you may enjoy one made prior to this, Walking in Space. It's put together in a similar way, however, the music is a bit different. Mike
Thank you for uploading this album!! My uncle Major Holley plays on three out of the four selections!! I wonder if there were any unreleased tunes from that project...
Brothers and sisters loved this album. Curtis Carter introduced me to it in 1970 and it has stayed in my mind over the years. It was the time as much as anything. retrorex is out of the loop on this one. Music other than wholesale marketability is an aficionado's mark. Ashanti

I honstly thought that maybe drugs were affecting Quincy's music after hearing thois. But that might be doing a terrible in justice to a great arranger.

My old man use to play this album all the time d*m there brings back tears
*Bridge over troubled water*
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I'll dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
Oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Slepton like an old mattress......
A MAJOR, boring disappointment after the masterpiece that was Walking in Space. What a letdown!
Not for everybody, I love It.... along with Walking in Space, Stuff like that, and many other collaborations he arranged and directed......
