Ishido is being outmaneuvered and he is angry. Angry for not seeing the trap, angry for his massive loss of face, angry because he is being made to look weak and stupid in front of everyone. Brilliant series and Mariko is just perfect.
I think Ishido is more worried about any delay in closing with his enemy on his ground of choice. I think he's worried about losing his grip on Toranaga and on losing his own head.
Not to mention, mad because Mariko reminded everyone of his peasant roots.
"You would walk into a sword just to prove the blade is sharp" That delivery by Blackthorn is so restrained and pensive. It shows how much he and Mariko care for one another.
Why do they care so much about each other?
@@grandmufftwerkin9037they understand each other the best
@@grandmufftwerkin9037because they love each other. The concept of love didn’t exist in this time in japan. And mariko discover it with John.
@@jejelerider3278
Why does she love him?
@@grandmufftwerkin9037 I'm not a woman but I think it might be because he never tries to control her. He asks her to do something, or to not do something, he actually listens to her, values her opinion. She seems to be completely controlled by men and her sense of duty. John never does that to her.
Lord Yabushige is my favorite character in this entire series. He's clearly intelligent enough to be a threat and/or valuable ally in his own right, but always much more expressive than the other characters. He's a walking comedic relief that always somehow manages to be a critical character when it matters most, and he always seems so damn tired of it.
he's so over it:)))))
In chess, Mariko is what we call a "poisoned pawn." Lord Toranaga disposed of her masterfully.
I don't think it's that simple.
I've played chess for so long, never heard that term before
@@Snipsey01 It's because it's a deadly manouver because the moment the pawn is touched, the player dies.

*Why Are Poisoned Pawns Important?*
_Being aware of the concept of a poisoned pawn can protect you from a lot of trouble. If you spot a pawn hanging, it is always a good idea to double-check to see if it is poisoned. Not only that, but you can also use a poisoned pawn to set a trap for your opponents._
_Additionally, there are quite a few openings with a poisoned pawn variation, like the London System, the Trompowsky Attack, and the Sicilian Najdorf. Some of these variations have a lot of theory related to them, and that is why it is easy to find yourself in an unfortunate position if you play them without knowing the opening theory or book moves._
You're probably a fish. Maybe you want to read some chess books or join a club. Never too late to learn.
In any case, it was my pleasure to school you. Good luck.
1:22 love the little turn💅
women☕🙄
/j😅
0:57 the guy is literally so funny
Lol that part killed me😂😂😂
I just realized that Anjin stood there and let dude vent....but only up to a certain point. When Yabu got too in Mariko's face that's when John stepped in (like any man who's protecting his woman would) and was like "Dude! Chill". Yabu's response was hilarious
I noticed that, too, but I wasn't sure the reason now it makes sense
"What are Toanaga's plans? I can help him, we can do this together."
Oh Yabu San, but you are. You are helping Toronaga. Very much.
Toranaga plan to destroy Ishido politically by sending Mariko to her death in Ishido Castle. From Mariko words we know that her Akechi klan is honoured by others samurai clan in japan.
I am not japanese so I dont understand. Arent clan hate each other? Always vying to outbest everyone and becoming number one? Why would her death trigger any kind of rage at all? They dont care when her family got hunted down and forced to kill themself
Osaka Castle, not Ishido Castle.
@@earthling123 They do care. But they are playing the great game and if the rules permit it, its fair game. But if you break the rules. Not only does the one you cheated recieve sympathy. Everyone also will try to ensure they dont get cheated on in the future. In the end everyone has to agree to a set of rules of conduct and if someone breaks those rules the system self-regulates the bad player away.
Ishido's, way of thinking is...he has the Regents and other Allies on his side, so he has the advantage against Toranago, but as Madame Gin stated fate is like a sword only useful to those who know how to wield it... Sun Tzu, said if you know yourself and you know your ememies..in a thousand battles you will not be defeated....In my opinion, Ishido, didn't do his homework properly...
He kept people who are supposed to be allies as hostages in his castle. That is why in the end, his own key allies abandoned him and sided with Toranaga.
This is the moment when it becomes obvious Yabushige is an audience surrogate. The character through whose perspective the audience is able to learn and understand the story.
Mariko wanted to die her dilema like the real woman Gracia she is based on was that she was a christian and she also believed killing herself would consign her to hell. But the japanese part of herself felt burdened by the dishonor of her father and family. Having a crappy husband and unthankful son didn't help either. I think Toranga was killing 2 birds with one stone. Using her as trap and stalemate as well as giving her a chance for the honorable end she wanted.
Tadanobu Asano has killed it all! in this entire series
Anna Sawai is going to get so much work after this.
Yabushige, the literary critic.
And Death Connoisseur
Lol Yabu had a point through, who makes a poem of leafless branches in late Spring ?
LOL
@@ronaldgrove3283 People sending a message to Ochiba (fallen leaves)…
@@Hananotaka A little early for autumn Mariko. Read the room.
I love this show, but it cracks me up how it seems like Yabushige is just this guy trying to get ahead only to have some oooooouuuuuutrageous stuff happen at every turn! What makes it funnier is that he's just intensely evil.
He is not "intensely evil". Grow up. Humans are complicated creatures. The way you see the world influences everything.
"You'd walk into a sword just to prove the blade is sharp" What about everything you've seen in the Japans makes you surprised by this statement?
Koi! Manuke!!
(Come, idiot!) I laughed so hard when I heard that!
0:50 Yoda grunt!
She is so beautiful! I can think of nothing else while watching these scenes

She’s so cute
Are we all watching the same show? This final act is garbage.
think you need to go back to the DEMOLITION DERBY on ESPN 6 - that was cinema --🖕
Why do you think is garbage? And how can that be improved? Comment it here then we’ll decide if it’s better
The final act is amazing. But it would be boring for someone who just wants to see cool sword fighting and cheap dialog.
Mariko just secured the winning position for her lord without having to use an army. That is the art of war. The show is about grand strategy and the courage it takes to see it through with all of the human elements/instincts. But to each their own.
And is this body of yours... stupid?
Apparently not
Toranagi knows Kashigi is a snake. That is why he kept his plan a secret.
They could have not chosen a more terrible actor for Anjin. He has about as much "presence" as a bowl of oatmeal.
discount Tom Hardy
I thought that's actually something positive. It is a contrast to the other characters which have a much stronger presence. Particularly when it comes to Mariko and Yabushige.
A more terrible actor?? You all just be saying anything
@@lukefury8162 No man, he was a really poor choice
@raymondedge8889 cosmo jarvis portrayed blackthorne brilliantly it was more realistic than chamberlain's portrayal even though I liked his version too
