I remember my oldest brother coming to me "You HAVE to listen to this." He was born in 1966 and me in 1982 an he always was introducing 80s music to me. He rarely liked any covers of his favrorite songs but he was absolutely all about this.

I love this. Heard it the first time yesterday on a coffee shop station. Her version is beautiful.
The original version by the Police is excellent, but Alanis absolutely nails her cover of it. She sings it as though she actually wrote it; not many covers of famous songs sound like that. Love it!
Her voice is very unique and one I could listen to for hours. I love her version of this song.

Ok I loved The Police's original.. but my God! Alanis just has that voice that just reaches down into your soul and haunts you. If this doesn't pull at your heart then quite frankly you don't have one. Very beautifully done.

The Police are one of my all time favorite bands and this song is total favorite of mine. And damn it gurl you nailed it. Making a song your own while also keeping faithful to what people liked about the original is hard.
As the Police version, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. As covered by Alanis Morisette, I feel it loses nothing of its intensity or sadness. That's an accomplishment almost never present in song covers. Good on you, my Angry Queen of Rock.
