Stopped by to pay my respects! RIP, Ms. Florence!
Another gem from your channel, Cyle! Wonderful to see such a dedicated custodian of local TV history ☺️
Florence Warner did a terrific version of "Hello, Baltimore" for WBAL-TV.

Thanks for posting this Cyle. It’s awesome to see the entire recording session. Now if we could just find raw footage of the “Catch” series of jingles too. Here’s a lip-sync video that also features Florence’s powerful voice: ua-cam.com/video/yxWUy23DwXA/v-deo.htmlsi=QJyyW4R1PNuQJaKU
14:31 is "It's Just Like Hearing It From a Friend" was written for WJW-TV in 1972. I grew up in Cleveland and became aware of this company as a teenager. All themes on this demo are for WJW-TV. Anything after 1978 would be WJKW-TV until the sale in the 80s. I have a billboard wrapped up in my garage of the It's Just Like Hearing It From a Friend campaign. Frank was and still is my friend. At 11:22 is the generic version of WDTN's "A Great Day" resing for my high school TV station in 1978 by Frank. A nice man and wonderful composer. The company started as Nintondo Productions/Cleveland. Station Concepts was the next company name in Cleveland. When he was based in Connecticut, he used his name, Frank Gari Productions. The rest is history. I have been collecting his music since I saw the animation sequence for Catch 5 in 1973 when I was 11 years old. I witnessed all this stuff on WEWS, WJW, WKYC and WUAB. I have my personal tapes. What a ride. I am forever grateful.
Dave, I’d love to chat with you, you have some knowledge on some things I’ve been researching. Email me, cyle.dickens@kwqc.com
The "KXTV" theme at 2:00 indeed was in use at KXTV in Sacramento in late 1985 and early 1986. I believe that it was used as the opening music to the KXTV 11:00 p.m. newscast on January 28, 1986 (space shuttle "Challenger" accident). I have no idea if it was the regular news music (which possibly was "the Spirit of California") or if it was used on "major" news days because "the Spirit of California" was too upbeat). Here is an example of that theme in use at KXTV in December 1985: ua-cam.com/video/PLMQwIAPqgI/v-deo.html
It is very sad to see Florence Warner pass away on September 19, 2024…

The "We're Tuned Into You" was for Showtime.
I wonder if WHBF used any of the “Catch 5” jingles during their 4 Action News era. I know they used the high energy open for their newscasts.
@@BrakusJPSThey sure did! They used Catch 5(4) during the Paul Meinke/Wendy Ellis era. Interestingly enough, it was the last time KWQC/WOC lost its spot as number 1, and has since dominated.
1:58 The Spirit of Tampa Bay for WFLA-TV in Tampa. Very underrated campaign that was victim to the station being in a distant 2nd and sometimes close 3rd in ratings during the theme’s era from April 1982-September 1985. Great to hear a crisper cut of it!
Agreed. It’s a great campaign. As a former Suncoast resident, I felt it captures the Tampa Bay Area very well. I believe after 8 ran this campaign, they commissioned a custom package from Randy Wachtler. He told me a great story about how that went. It ended up being the package that propelled him into TV news themes.
@@cyledickens6 They might have but I do know that come September 1985 the station updated their look and started using two themes for the next 7 years. 615's Power News for News Music and Gari's Turn To for Image Campaigns and promos.
Gari is my absolute favorite broadcast music composer! Listening to these clips makes my day. I'm sure it takes time to transfer and upload. Are there more in storage? Thanks much!
Agreed. There is still quite a bit to go through. I just don't have much time these days to devote to it, but do what I can when I can.
Now we know that all the "You're in touch with so much" jingles were by Gari.
Indeed. The version in this demo was sung by Livingston Taylor according to the box the reel came in.
Other cuts appear on other Gari demos elsewhere; most notably (and even more Curiously) for KTVI St. Louis, even though a wide variety of research says the station--or Any TV Station for that matter--Never actually used it. WABC Radio in New York (AFAIK) is the Only station to have used the package when they switched from Music to Talk in the 80s--circa 1983, I believe. But supposedly, the package wasn't well-liked there. So after a year or so, they went back to the more familiar sounding WABC Melody of long ago (IYKYK) and used traditional jingle companies like JAM, PAMS & even TM Studios to bring it back.
@@cyledickens6 WOAH, I THOUGHT it sounded like Livingston, that's nuts! I was recommended this by random, and this is just absolute music genius, right up there with Roger Nichols. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but would it be possible for you to, at least going forward, not overlap each of the songs, please? They're each so good that I don't want them to be interrupted by the start of the next jingle. (Or did it just come this way this time?) I can't believe I'm saying this, but this stuff really deserves to be properly released on a compilation album, hahaha.
1:00 -- Which client was this jingle for?
I believe WJKW/WJW-TV
She's the sweetest lady in all of television's history. Rest-In-Piece Florence Warner (1947-2024)
She did an amazing version of this for the State of Kansas in the early 1980s, with Hello Kansas. I never knew who she was until a few days ago, but she was amazing, for sure. And no doubt, a lovely lady from inside to out. Wish I had known of her earlier. She will be missed.
Walker John Thompson Jason Lopez Karen
Florence's voice was EVERYwhere. Rest well.
Growing up in Ottawa, Ontario and we received our American network affiliates from Rochester, NY. WOKR 13 (now WHAM) used the same campaign
A variation of this was used in the Hello Iowa commercials for many years on KGAN in CR and I always loved hearing it.
Florence Warner was (and still is) one of the best jingle singers ever. She sang two versions of the "Hello Pittsburgh" jingle for WTAE.
The lyrics just rolled so much better for "Calgary and "Channel 2&7". Loved this spot.
Came to pay respects to a jingle I've been hearing ever since I was born.
Just learned that she passed yesterday. R.I.P. to the woman that I always called 'The Queen of Advertising Jingles'. She'll be missed.
RIP thanks for the memories
Rest In Peace ❤️ thanks for your news jingles and Jem & The Holograms
From the NewsCenter of Georgia, This is 11 Alive News Tonight. John Pruitt, Chuck Moore, Johnny Beckman's Weather, and Sports with Art Eckman.
The old-school ATV Evening News (present-day CTV Maritimes) used this music for years...from the 1980s until the early 1990s!
it's easy to forget how much light had to be on these sets! wow
It's called Klein & for a reason.
Wow, WAAY really missed out on some great graphics.
So you also collect news music as well?
Happy to hear a clean version of the USA Network sports theme
I love the jingle at the beginning of this video.
That was also used on WRKO in Boston in the mid-1980’s.
I hope y'all will reply to this I liked seeing Marv Albert Chuck Scarborough and Terry Bradshaw....that was interesting seeing what the news people at KRIS 6 in Corpus Christi Texas did on their days off Tony Dale who worked at KRIS 6 later he went up I-37 to San Antonio Texas and worked for KSAT 12 the San Antonio ABC affiliate ,.,getting back to Marv Albert even though he's now retired he was one of my Favorite sports announcers he was funny I liked it when he said Yessss!!!!!! after every good basket..did y'all know his brothers Al and Steve were also sports announcers???!!!!
"Hello Birmingham"
It's back, YESSIR!!!!!!
The harmony on these is tight... I'd love to have been a fly on the wall watching the recording session for this jingle package.
