Thank you very much I appreciate that! I really do! I’m always hopeful that I can give you guys something that can help you catch more fish. Save you some money or just give you an insight that will help your fishing in some way. Thanks again for supporting the channel!!👊🏼🔥👊🏼
As always Rick, you do a great job of explaining your set up, and I have been using some XZone Adrenaline craws, because they are buoyant and just like the Zoom ZCraw. I have been on the Chowan, Roanoke, and Little Aligator since Friday ( 5-17) and used the 3/8oz tungsten weights, and it was tough because of the number of wicked stumps and wood, but I am definitely going to keep working with the free rig, and your videos have been helpful and I told my fishing partner to look you up and follow your channel. I am glad to support you and appreciate the fact we’re in fairly close proximity to each other and enjoy similar types of fishing presentations 👍😜👍💯🍀🍀🍀🍀🎣
Thanks Will much appreciated! Thanks for always tuning in and for your insights on the videos. I could see how gnarly wood cover could be a bit difficult for the free right now. As we move closer to the summer I feel like the more time spent fishing this rig will just give me more confidence with it. Thanks again for watching and subscribing and for all your comments and input!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very good stuff. I like the idea of moving the bobber stop up the line.Turning it into a finess carolina rig, which i use all the time. Also, I was throwing the rig the way you throw it Rix, but with 12lb flouro. I didn't get hardly any if any separation in 1 to 3 feet. I'm gonna go today and try a Co-Polymer line as you use. I think my light flouro is sinking too fast. Just thought I would share my new experiment to add to your testing. Thanks for your video. Fish On
For sure their is more separation between bait and weight the deeper you fish. And it also depends what n how heavy a weight your fishing with. Remember too if your letting your bait sink to bottom…. To just lift up quickly to get that weight back off the bottom and let that bait start it’s free fall all over again…. I should have mentioned that in video but it slipped my mind. Thanks for the comment and feedback back! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’ll add, that I played with pushing the bobberstop up a few inches when I was in a little more open water,of course I fished some huge flats in the Aligator and Chowan 6’ and less, and it was like a cross between the Carolina rig, and free rig🤷🏻♂️
Yes it does! Glad it’s helping you catch some fish man! It’s a different and natural presentation…. It’s been around a little while and I have used it a little but this year I decided to put more time in with it. Experiment with your favorite plastics and see if you get on to something with a bait that can really help you when you are having a slow day. 👊🏼🔥
Good stuff on the free rig, I have been using it for some time but still need more fish catching with it, I tend to pick up my drop shot and ned rig set ups first before I pick up the free rig. I also use the bobber stop and once in awhile I'll slide that bobber stop even further, maybe a couple feet or so and then I have a mini "finesse" Carolina rig.
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it! Yep it’s definitely a versatile set up that you can adjust and modify to the conditions. The drop shot and Ned are awesome as well. It’s all about what you have e the most confidence in. Thanks for the comment and for supporting the channel!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good morning Rix, I still haven't figured out the free rig, but will keep trying. Not sure if this would be something you would want to share, but my casting reel frame cost me a big one in a tournament yesterday. I just discovered why this morning. Wish I could send u a picture to help explain. My line has cut a sharp spot in the reel frame just above the level whine. When I hooked her in shallow water, my line broke about 10 foot up the line. I blamed it on the line or a bad spot in my rod, but the rod is brand new and and I checked it well yesterday in the tournament after I had trouble. Sorry to ramble, but u can bet I'm checking every single reel frame as I type this message , lol. Fish On.
Aw man that sucks! Hate that you lost a big one because of that. Stuff like that happens though at times. I lost a few fish in my last tournament but not because of equipment because of me trying to rush to get them in the boat! 🫤 As far as the free rig it’s something you just have to put some time in with to get a feel for it. Some folks still prefer the Texas rig…. It’s all in what you get confidence in. Good luck and thanks for your comments! And for subscribing! Much appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes that’s what I’m using. The drop shot weights with the swivels. Not the clip on style. You’re welcome man. Thanks for watching!! Much appreciated 👊🏼👊🏼
It’s similar but different. The Texas rig sinker does not slide no where near as freely as the drop shot sinker with the swivel does. If you fish with it a while you still see the difference and the separation you get between the weight and bait. 👍🏻👍🏻
I just don't get it.... Seems to me the only time your bait is actually free is on the very beginning of the cast. After that as you move it, the bait comes up to the sinker and is no longer free?..... And after that it's basically just a Texas Rig...... I don't know. I just can't wrap my mind around it. I guess I'll have to just try it for myself
Yeah I know what you’re saying. But the deeper your fishing it and the more you use it …. You will see and feel the difference. That cylinder type sinker moves along your line much easier than the standard bullet weight for one. When you initially cast it the sinker will slide down…. When the bait does touch bottom….. just quickly pop your rod tip up and you will create separation between the bait and weight again. Me personally I prefer the cylinder style weights some guys use the other type of drop shot weights. I get what you’re saying though. After a little time with it you will see how it works and can be more effective. Thanks for your comment and feedback back! Much appreciated 👊🏼🔥
Great job explaining the actual baits jobs. One of the best channels I have found.

Great video, I like the technique and will try!👍👍

Your free rig work for me this past weekend at Russell. I'll also be using this Saturday at Murray in a tournament. It does work!

Couldn’t find free rig weights…..drop shot weights with split ring works . Thanks for all your info
Yes that’s what I’m using. The drop shot weights with the swivels. Not the clip on style. You’re welcome man. Thanks for watching!! Much appreciated 👊🏼👊🏼
🙌🏼
Thanks for the breakdown
Yep you got it Mike and thanks for supporting the channel. 👍🏻👊🏼
Isn’t a unpegged Texas rig a free rig? The weight free flows down the line and the plastic and hook behind them it just like a free rig?
It’s similar but different. The Texas rig sinker does not slide no where near as freely as the drop shot sinker with the swivel does. If you fish with it a while you still see the difference and the separation you get between the weight and bait. 👍🏻👍🏻
been crushing them on the free rig
Cool deal! It has been doing work for me too. 👊🏼🔥👊🏼
free rig gonna smoke them on Kerr
My last Kerr derby video about a month ago that’s what I caught them on. Sure it will be on the deck this weekend too. 👍🏻
