The ALPS experiment and Dark Matter

The mystery of dark matter, which is estimated to make up a quarter of the content of the universe, has persisted for decades. Dark matter is invisible to us but has tremendous effects on gravitational systems. An experiment at DESY in Hamburg is searching for one possible candidate particle that could comprise dark matter: the axion.
