Cycling underwater feels like an allegory for my last braincell
Second to last, the other holds the word 'allegory' lol
The problem with the needle through glass is it's not just about raw power but also technique, when they showed the pitcher's throws the needle seemed to be hitting side ways which gives the lowest odds of working. Personally going with something that shoots the needle like an air cannon would give more definitive answers and not just, 'throw hard and maybe work'
darts player would probably be more appropriate
And a pointier needle.
I also think they missed something with the way the panes of glass were held. The monk clearly holds it on its side, top and bottom whereas they had it clamped from below.
Would the balloon also not have an effect? Similar to the rehbinder effect, preventing shattering.
The needle shattering by the guy. Damn. That's some force.
metal fatigue, hard brittle steel, the bend was already max deflection, feel like a monk really can do this they just have standard Chinese glass.

36:56!!! 🤣🤣 Wow this show was golden 😂 Tori's face 😂😂
That sight gag at 8:37 always makes me smile 😃
It's interesting to see years and years after this episode the SloMo Guys actually getting a Shaolin monk on the show to do the stunt, and show what happens. Doesn't seem to be any foul play involved, just a combination of the right kind of needle, right kind of glass and a really fast throw. Even then it doesn't strictly speaking go THROUGH the glass, but rather causes a crack that launches a few tiny shards of glass on the other side that pop the balloon.
36:56 goodness gracious this one is over the top 😂
These mythbusters episodes takes me to my happy place. Such a nice show ✌️
Buoyancy says 'No, you can't'
28:45 I bet the firefighter had a bit of ceramic or equivalent in his glove
Third in line? I'll take it lol. Jamie was like a grizzled old dad by this point. Like he's thinking: *Adam doing the walrus mustache fingers* " Well, this seems kinda silly, but lets get it over with I guess." 😂
Tory was loading and firing the needle eye first not point first. He always came across as not the sharpest tool in the box but this proves it.
Everyone in the comments checking the backs of their hands lol
the Hand Test was incorect, the first 2 Ladys had the Button placed between middle and Point finger... while the rest had it between Thumb and Pointy. It was not hard to pick for them, they knew how they placed theyr Fingers on that Camera.
Seems like they are placing the female hand with only male hands.
Yeah this was incorrect way. But at the same time others picked their hands correctly as well (apart from one person). So the conclusion stays the same.
He puts on a FACE shield, then turns his FACE away from the needle lol c’mon man
About dental ID, I believe it's used because it's the part of your body which you have most likely had a scan of that also will not disintegrate when burned, or when all the fleshy parts are gone. Has nothing to do with them being more distinctive or not than the back of your hand.
I believe the current theory is that the needle doesn't actually penetrate the glass, but instead, cause the glass pane to chip. The needle impact causes very small glass shards on the other side, and that's what pops the balloons
i think the bike underwater theory would be better if the pool floors has better, grippier texture
as if grant passed away, RIP my fellow mythbuster, hope you're busting myths in the sky
Honestly I'm a nurse. We hold it for long. Longer I've been able to hold it was 6 hours. Literally started at 5 in the morning and didn't go till just before 2 when I went to lunch, didn't even notice and infact went because I decide to go only to then really need to. So just not thinking about it does help. Pee dance just makes u think about it but it is hilarious
Curiously enough, for "like the back of my hand" in Spanish we use "como la palma de mi mano" that translates to the FRONT of the hand, not the back. Very similar ideas but not exactly.
my great uncle pitched the first perfect game in a world series. Christy Mathewson
"We tried everything WE could and couldn't do it, so it's busted" is what I hated about this show. It IS possible to pierce glass with a needle, I've seen it done. You need the right glass and the right needle + a LOT of practise but it is possible.
Also, tapping the car window with the finger, it amazed me they didn't understand how 'easiest' to break that kind of glass. There's a reason that in the virla clip the guy tapping movea from the center to the coner as that's where it's eaaiest to break that kind of glass. Carry had the right idea with a punch but SO much less force is needed in the corner. MAN I wish this show would come back!
Monks bought the glass from Wish.
"Already got mine." 🤣
Seen the needle-through-glass trick live and there definitely was a hole in there that wasn't in there before. But even the monk who did it, a trained performer who does that day in and day out, needed a bunch of tries. I suppose it's just THAT hard.
Needle through glass is possible, TheSlowMoGuys proved it, I’m guessing Discovery didn’t have the budget to get a real Shaolin Monk to do it.
Monk stuff was faked though, so damn faked
@@m2heavyindustries378 ?? It really wasn't. Needle through glass is a lot more about the technique rather than raw kinetic energy, as well as a very specific choice of glass and needle. Absolutely doable and proved.
Doesn't actually go through with slow mo guys just splinters the glass... kinda a big difference tbh it's just an illusion of the needle going through as it bounces off the glass keeps going
I wonder if a front wheel propelled bike would've been better for underwater.
Just lower the tyre pressure for better traction.
I think you got a point!
Also this test could be redone now with 5 inch wide soft fatbike tyres with winter compound. Fatbikes can ride in very soft surfaces and those tyres have impressive traction and they can be run with very low pressures. Also having lower gear can help to climb hill underwater.
anyone else noticed that on the last shot the needle was backwards in the rifle? it comes out the barrel with the loop end and not with the sharp end xD
and i doubt that it has room to go 180 in the barrel :D
For me I can easily pick out the back of my hand . I have some pretty specific scarring .
As far as a window shattering on their own , as a mechanic I have seen a couple of windows shatter while driving .
Why is it called "back fo the hand? It is not as if the palm is called the front of the hand.
Hahaha. In my language the palm is "hand heart" and the back is "hand back". I think the back-ness is quite universal
it is in fact a special needle, sharpened a special way
The only thing I see different with the needle throwing is in the video the glass was held top and bottom but the MythBusters only held the bottom which you can see gives the glass room to flex as seen the the high speed shots.
Did the uploader change the opening music or was there a season when Mythbuster change out their opening music? Coz I remember the signature Mythbuster tune as the same every season.
17:34 effort less .wow impressed
They still weren't able to penetrate the glass like the monk-video showed/suggested. At least not in the slow-mo clip they showed, since the needle "only" punched a hole (hitting with its eye-side, not with the tip) but it doesn't go all the way through. All of which might just be splitting hairs since the glass was clearly penetrated without shattering, but: They had to use an air-rifle to get the needle up to the super-human speed that was necessary for penetration. I don't doubt the physical abilities of shaolin monks, but if one of the best pitchers to ever play baseball isn't able to throw the needle at 180mph, I don't believe for a second that a shaolin monk can do it. For one thing: It's gotta be a matter of leverage/physics. The monk dude was pretty small and had shorter arms compared to the rather substantial looking pitcher who made Tory look like a little boy when the two were standing next to each other.
No idea if they tried to prove/demonstrate that it was real glass they were using in the monk-video, but I would suspect it might have been something much softer (and less prone to shattering) than glass that they were penetrating. Super thin plastic/plexiglass, perhaps?
Or perhaps it was just a simple magic trick. Notice how they're using two other monks to hold the glass and the balloon. Wouldn't be too far fetched to suspect that balloon-monk popped the thing with a concealed device on his finger/hand and that glass-monk triggered some sort of device that either punctured the glass or simulated a puncture.
Lol embarrassing to admit, but I know for a fact the pee dance works, because the times I wet myself at school when I was little were specifically because i was refused the opportunity to use the washroom and was told to sit still.
I'd ask to go, get told I didn't actually have to go, then told to stop asking and raising my hand while the teacher speaks....... After 10 minutes of the teacher blabbering on and on as I tried to hold it, my weak 7 year old bladder would lose the battle.
It really wasn't fair at all.
11:01 he woud have lost his eye without safety goggles.. needle bounced from the glass straight to his right eye
GCN did this at xmas one year. Bikes can take it. The oily bits bearings dont like it after they dry out !!!!
Should have put paddles on the bike wheels
I haven't seen this episode before...
why did they put the last needle in the gun backwards?
Tory loaded all of them backwards. Says a lot about Tory.
What you need is more weight, but without more mass.
The kung-foux guy clearly used a pane of sugar glass! If anyone in the world should know what sugar glass is, it's people that work at a movie prop workshop...
42:32 for Jamie's 🥜 🥜
9:45 wrong, you can no spin throw a knife
11:10 did he really say that????
Lol right narrator with the penetration satisfaction joke 🤣
i got stabbed in the palm with a pencil in 6th grade so i might have an advantage, also i have a big gap in my teeth lol i'd be an unfair test subject
@21:19 Monk video : Hand above balloon has something sharp attached to it. As needle hits, that's what pops the balloon.
nah, it just a plastic film. There nothing on the hand of the one holding the balloon

The shit we do for science and entertainment 🤣
25:53 is that jamies balls?
Who’s the pinkhair?
i love Jamie but at this point he is so over the show
Because of Adam.
Who wouldn't be?
Did they just confirm a biological different between men and women, that make so most sense?
Women was the caretakers of the settlements when the men was hunting back in the Stone age.
Taking a pee break, makes you and the offspring a easy prey
They shot the needle backwards..
the teeth was just stupid nobody i know looks at thier teeth for an extended time, but would still be easy as if ya got a gap or crooked tooth u know it and could pick it out easy!
Most people in the western world brush their teeth twice every day.. What kind of cretins are you hanging out with?
