The Truman Show Deleted Scene - Today's Schedule (1998) - Jim Carrey Movie HD
An insurance salesman/adjuster discovers his entire life is actually a T.V. show. - Фільми й анімація
People forget Marlon didn't choose this life either, he was raised to be nothing more than Truman's friend. He's nearly as trapped as Truman.
Especially since he was raised to not tell truman the truth. He didn't have the guts to tell truman
In a sense they all are, his parents, childhood friends, any long term associates would have to commit years if not the rest of their lives to the show.
No he chose. He was his friend in the childhood. Then he went off the show, went to a regular school. Then he came back as an actor to be his "friend" again
@@iwatchwithnoads7480 Where are you getting that?
@@ReaverLordTonus It's not that different from any other job in which you work for many years just taking a few months of vacations for the rest of your productive life.
The darkest part of this is the new actress. She is willingly going to birth a baby into servitude.

+Valami Izé
This movie or the original comment have nothing to do with SJW ideology. You randomly bringing the subject up shows you're so fanatical in your opposition that it makes you just as bad as the people who support it.
Just like in "real" world.
FilthyManatee the darkest part is the man Truman thinks is his best friend asked when he dies that they’ll go back to a single format. That’s disturbing
That's women.😁
What if Truman killed someone? Would they actually arrest him and start a prison show or would he be arrested in real life?
You kidding? Orange is the new Truman? An instant ratings boost.
Really hard to kill someone in a world where everyone is connected behind the scenes and the man controlling everything has access to truman's location at all times.
@@scrappy1416 He could easily grab a knife and kill someone really quick. He would be caught, but that's what I mean. What would they do with him?
@@hunterotails2015 A fun hypothetical but that level of cognitive dissonance is extremely rare. Most people give signs much earlier in life, etc, etc... but you must know that so to answer with my own hypothetical. They would have been wise to incorporate their own town and police (similar to Reedy Improvement District FL) and so they could, legitimately, prosecute him within the confines of the set. A high drama court scene, maybe even jail time and community service. Counseling. Oh, it'd be some glorious TV. [Of course, the whole movie is based on a conceit that any of this would be legal, which it wouldn't]
@@scrappy1416 They could easily stage him up to fake murder someone. They could also get him on drugs, manipulate him into a religious crisis, all sorts of things for the sake of spicing up the show
You can see Marlon looks distraught when he mentions the potential death of Truman. All those years of being best friends really hit home for him.
Exactly he had to be with Truman his whole life and despite it being forced upon Truman as well as him being an actor, he is his friend but feels morally conflicted as he knows that Truman wants to leave but has to convince him otherwise.
It's called familiarity. He's known Truman all his life so there's some kind of emotional attachment. Maybe he has some real feelings of friendship for truman. Still it just wasn't enough for him to tell Truman the truth.
@@lynnpabontheelitehero6579 I think you summarized it perfectly. Everybody is just saying "oh Marlon truly feels sorry for Truman, he's a good guy" or the opposite "no, he's worse than anybody else, because he lies to his face and only feels sorry for himself" while really it's a mix of both, and having complex characters is one of the great things about this movie.
There also is the thing that maybe he really only started to feel this way for him when Truman started to want to see the rest of the world. As long as Truman was content with his life, Marlon didn't question his role, after all he too was raised in that environment so it was his normality.
Maybe what we see in the movie is the beginning of Marlon's conscience, so if Truman changed his mind and didn't try to escape maybe there'd come a point when Marlon would snap and tell him the truth.
Why is he so sure he will outlive Truman?
N his "mom" didn't look disappointed at all
They should have kept the last bit at least with Marlon. That was the only quote that makes the viewer know Marlon sympathized with Truman.
I actually really agree
+The Mean Conservative What makes the viewer know that? i don't fully understand.
They really Dont give a F only care about Exploiting him for money !
Life, Death..NEXT SICK BASTARDS
Its what some Governements and Organizations DO today to some people.
I scrolled down to post this exact comment. Glad to see others think the same.
I thought he nearly sympathized when he hesitated before saying that he would never lie to truman
They way cristof refusing to answer or even acknowledge marlon's question makes me firmly believe that marlon asks the question simply to spite cristof and make everyone feel guilty. It doesn't excuse what he does in the movie but it shows that he is the only character to actually sympathize with truman at all besides when everyone doesn't want him to die in the end.
no that other woman truman loved sympathized with him. So did the bus driver. Plus Marlon is the main character they use to try to keep truman trapped and he goes along with it every time.
Tom tonka
He goes along with it, but not without feeling conflicted.
If you watched the short nickelodeon film, you'd know Marlon (as well as Truman's mother) wants the show to end. He may still being sarcastic in this scene.
@@tomtonka1915 I didn't count the other woman as she was booted from the show quickly and a long time ago
Fernando Martin What short Nickelodeon film?
The best scene of the deleted scenes. Shouldn't have been deleted. Explains many things like: the actors have to renew their contracts; they do reunions for the actors can know their characters and stuff; and what they would do if Truman have a baby. This scene is so cool. Really shouldn't have been deleted.
It's better to leave the audience with questions of suspense. I like what they did. They didn't put this on the movie simply for everyone can have their own little ending in the end.
I agree. This shouldn't have been deleted as it fleshes out the actors true natures and what's at stake if Truman cannot escape in time.
I can see why he deleted it. Too direct.
And they showed that Truman's ''best friend'' actually cares about Truman, something that wasn't shown in the movie enough if at all. My only criticism to this phenomenal movie
This scene is so incredibly disturbing. I love it, but I think it's so dark it wouldn't have fit well in the final film. It didn't need any blood or gore to be scary, but it's bone chilling.
The darkest part about this film isn't anything to do with Truman's fake world, but rather the real world. The amount of human rights laws that must not exist in the movie's universe for something like the Truman show to be even possible is quite scary.
I've thought about that too: this world must be some evil dystopia.
You know that scene in the movie where Truman's "coworker" asks him to sign something? I think it's actually a waiver, which Truman unwittingly signs every day, giving Christof rights to do whatever.
Yeah, it's presented as a comedy but it's some SERIOUSLY dark aspects in this movie too say the least....😮
Wow, the lady would willingly give birth to a child who would be doomed to spend his/her entire life as a slave in a gilded cage for others entertainment. Imagine if the kid eventually got wise to it all like Truman did and found out their actual mother not some actress like Truman’s “mom” was in on the whole thing? If that doesn’t give a person trust issues I don’t know what will.
My thought also, really she is pscyho.
Imagine if we all found out that the planet we are living on is in fact not a globe but flat surrounded by a dome like on the Truman show!
Trust issues? More like a psychopath going on a rampage.
But that already happened, right...? Truman himself was the result of an unwanted pregnancy in which the mother signed him over to become the property of the TV company who produce the show, knowing full well that he would spend his entire life as a slave in a gilded cage. Imagine if, after the movie finished and Truman was out in the real world, he tried to find his actual birth mother. I mean, if she was still alive it's hard to believe she wouldn't have been watching his entire life unfold. Christ, that would be one AWKWARD reunion... 😬
Kinda scary how this show basically predicted what modern day media consumers would be interested in (about 20 years later) I mean some family reality show youtubers have a baby for more views 😅 .
I think Marlon doesn't like this anymore.
Yeah, he definitely is feeling disgusted over it.
This and his redemption would’ve earned him my sympathy, but the film left them out and made him the same as everyone else 😔
@@patricktsai2303 They also cut a scene where Marlon lets Truman escape. When you watch the movie scene you can tell he didnt go out of his way to find Truman in the tunnel. Noah Emmerich said for years people give him crap about his character deceiving Truman but if you watch these edited scenes, that wouldnt happen so much.
If you think about it Marlon didn't really choose this. He was brought into it as a child and grew up in it. He doesn't know anything else. There's mention in the moving of him going away for a summer to work. Apparently originally there was a story about him having a breakdown and having to leave the show to recover but it was explained to Truman as him travelling for his job. I wish they hadn't cut it.
The Marlon Show
There’s no way that all of these people who knew Truman from when he was a child, and his wife would be that sociopathic to not care about him at all. Apparently there are deleted scenes showing that Marlon genuinely cared about him and was wrapped with guilt and I wish they’d kept them in along with this scene. I wouldn’t have minded if this movie was closer to two hours. Marlon had wasted character potential. When you think about it he was just a child when he started the show and probably didn’t really know or have a say in what he was getting involved in.
It’s incredibly disturbing to think that nobody would have enough of a conscience to inform him that his life is a joke/entertainment. Chilling.
Plus, wouldn’t he demand all of the money they made off of him? Like he’s just gonna wander out with nothing… No real explanation, no Social Security card, no understanding of what real life is outside of that bubble?
The ending always bothered me.
@@LeahIsHereNow The rest of Truman's life is not for us to see. Much like for the audience in the film, he's free of coverage.
I think it's good that these scenes aren't in the movie. But I wish they had released a separate thing with a bunch of stuff like that and these deleted scenes.
Wow this deleted scene is super dark. Everything in this scene just boggles my mind in how they really do not care about Truman and that it is just “work”
Marlon cares.
Yesssssss they don’t
They probably justify it by saying “if they don’t do it, they’ll just find somebody else to do it so they might as well.” Isn’t that how flexible morality works? You’d be surprised by how many people do that here and now in this world.
It's interesting to watch actors playing as actors.
Actor acting as an actor which acts in a movie inside a movie
@@cypherusuh META
Laura Linney's my favorite. She's a good actress, playing a bad actress (check out how she's wiping away nonexistent tears in this clip).
The yellow caution sign at 0:57 is eerie.. They even thought of a small detail like including that the scripts were magnetically encoded, and would alert security if any of the actors brought them “on set”. Those small details answer the questions of how they’d be able to pull this off without Truman ever finding out. They really thought of everything.
Wow. I never thought of that.
Smarter than Ayanokoji.
"So when Truman dies, we go back to the single channel format?"
It's honestly horrifying to imagine him dying inside the constructed world. Living his whole life and never ever ever knowing the truth.
I'm an atheist, but imagine if Heaven existed in this movie's universe, Truman would have a breakdown after death
Ignorance is bliss. Would be sad from an audience's point of view, but as for Truman... never finding out might've been easier.
I mean, from a religious standpoint (in a lot of religions), that's the point of life on Earth
This actually kinda is a horror movie if you think about it
The original idea was make a a drama Thriller but they decided for comedy.
The movie it's abiut an horror already. The difference is that we are not screaming about playing with the other's life.
There’s definitely some dystopian vibes in this movie with horror elements. Would’ve been interesting if they went for a complete horror movie, but I’m glad they went for the dark comedy route.
@@nonameman7114 Would've been traumatic
This is a horror movie
Surprised at how many people thought Marlon was being callous here. It's the opposite, he couldn't stand how casually the others were talking about this and was basically trying to confront them with the reality of all their actions (including his own). He resents the whole thing, and of all the people involved he's the one I can forgive because he was raised in the show himself - akin to being brought up in a cult.
Imagine being an extra in this movie...
You'd be an extra, playing an actor playing an extra...
Haha true
Unless Truman approaches you and makes you his friend, then you'd be promoted to a new role: the other friend
Isn't you in the comment section of the ending's clip?
This is why I respect Marlon. He did the one thing that no one else ever tried to do for Truman. Some people tried to get him out of the show. Marlon gave Truman a REAL friend, even if he had to pretend his friendship was an act.
From a storytelling and characterisation standpoint I think this was criminal to cut. It doesn't just give us some worldbuilding behind the scenes on the world Truman inhabits, more critically it underlines the cruel emotional detachment of the entire cast towards Truman. For all the film's many accomplishments I don't think the final cut really succeeds at this, Meryl is the only character who is really shown to be dispassionate about Truman's wellbeing. You'd be forgiven for coming away thinking Marlon and most of the rest of the cast did in some way 'feel' their relationships to Truman. Maybe Marlon did, but there's an element of professional detachment - he ultimately does choose the show over the friendship. The invisible hand of Christof really makes itself known here; the net around Truman's life is encapsulated in this script reading sequence.
I think the intention was to keep most of the behind the scenes a mystery and focus more on Truman's changing experience. Otherwise it would be more of a horror-type of film where everyone is a sinister character look up at someone in a cage. I think it was fine how it was made. There are still a lot of details that were left out even from the original script and the deleted scenes, like what was Christof's motivation to make something like this or how it was even made legal. However, the deleted scenes are still pretty interesting.
@@mrlionX Yeah, the problem with matrix sequels is that they focus too much on the lore and not enough on the main character's personal journey.
I really liked this scene. It's one of the very few moments we see everyone for who they really are. It's so disturbing!
Yup. I always held out a little hope from the film that his 'dad' missed him all those years and part of him sneaking onto the show was to see him again as well as getting back on the cast, but the sight of him nonchalantly eating during this conversation is really gross. Poor Truman. How can anyone basically be someone's parent for so many years and not begin to form a bond with him at all?
Notice how Hannah denies receiving the backstory of Claudia, lol she knows it's only mandatory for her to be in this meeting and that it's all irrelevant to her, soon to be, irrelevant character.
they need to have a directors cut, these scenes were great.
This scene, and the unfilmed scene of marlon finding truman, and choosing to let him escape really would've given him a great arc
Interestingly in an earlier draft of the script the "When Truman dies?" question was originally asked by christof's assistant who later attempts to stop the storm threatening to drown Truman before Christof stops her.
Some fans have speculated that he was actually planning to quit - he's shown reading the classified ads in one scene, and the scene where he lets his assistant run the board might actually have been him secretly training his replacement.
just reminding everyone that if marlon had tried to tell truman the truth he’d have been ripped away from him just like sylvia. they actually grew up together, and in a way he was forced into that situation as well. doesn’t make his continued complicity and active manipulation of truman right, but i think it does help put it in perspective.
The unfilmed deleted scenes show Marlon 'helping' Truman escape. So in the theatrical cut his disenchanted and lazy frustrated attitude to Trumans' escape makes much more sense
I like to imagine if things went as planned with Truman and Vivian having a son, they would have named him "Norman".
I like this scene, but I can definitely see why they took it out.
I am disappointed this story could have been much cooler if they kept this in period Instead of having the boring boat see that the end this is much cooler
Yeah, I agree. Pacing is slow, Exposition way to direct... doesn't fit the elgance of the movie. It's great as a bonus material though and shows -- together with the "behind the scenes" -- how much work they actually put into world building. Brilliant.
Same here.
@@lesulix9885 there should be 2 options: behind the scenes and "behind the scenes"
@@Condorian_ "wait, he's got a point"
I'm on the fence as to which way to take Marlon's comments. At first I thought this scene did a great job at showcasing Marlon's total disregard for Truman's well-being. The film itself really seemed to make Marlon out to be a self-absorbed and disingenuous actor who is entirely apathetic to Truman's plight. However there was always enough grey area in the delivery that left room for Marlon to possibly perhaps genuinely care about Truman, just not as much as he cared about being a famous actor with a nice salary.
Anyway, this scene initially struck me as Marlon casually questioning the show's protocol in the event of Truman's death as if he was inquiring about lunch. Total disregard for Truman. Yet when I watch again, I see in Marlon's face that he's not sharing in the excitement and glee the other actors are feeling. That suggests to me that he could simply be asking this question to spite his co-workers.
Still, though... Marlon gave me awful vibes the entire movie. He was crucial in keeping Truman contained and seemed to take no issue in gaslighting Truman and acting as Christof's main tool in keeping Truman imprisoned in the false reality he was held captive in.
Marlon is portrayed in other scenes as more reluctant than the rest of the cast.
Marlon was between a rock and a hard place.
I think the script actually wrote into his backstory that he became an alcoholic for awhile due to the guilt he had over deceiving his best friend and originally he would have seen Truman during his escape as they glance at each other but he then lets him go, thereby giving him his redemption.
1:49 that flick of the head shows his anger at the inhumanity of this new actress, disregarding life.It shows that when she asks "what happens when they are both on camera together". if he gave no shit about truman he would roll his eyes or just ignore it but he reacts in a frustrated fashion showing his annoyance with he situation. which leads me to believe that he is stuck in this position. He like truman is trapped. yes he has one and freedom but without him, truman has no real friends.he can risk telling him its fake and losing a wage, thousands of jobs, trumans sanity, trumans life if the producers didn't want him dead, and that's if he believed hi. with cameras on truman 24 hours a day there is no way to tell him without the audience and the creator knowing. it would be suicideto tell him so he becomes locked in this place, acting as a betrayal. the scene where he talks to truman about it being fake the bridge shows his anger and sadness but he can't risk it, for his own sake and because he knows what the creators are like, they might just kill of truman. that line about when truman dies, i believe is testing water to check how far they will go.
@@halflifefan1000 Also he was pushed into the role as Truman's friend by his mother who was the casting director. So while he may not be a good person, he likely was warped by the show as well.
They should've kept this in the film. It's important as we get to see the actors behind the scenes on getting ready for the week.
Also, on air conception. That is freaking creepy and disturbing! Yuck! Basically they are trying to force Truman to have a kid, and that actress is willing to carry and give birth on air! And then the baby will be born into captivity and will live the same like as Truman. Really really creepy and too far.
funny you say too far but this is way closer to home than you may realize.
@@ItsJDonUA-cam IKR? This film was so far ahead of it's time. It predicted mass surveillance and technology and loosing privacy. I give so much respect to it for that!
Ah, you touch on why they couldn't keep it -- it took the focus away from Truman, it didn't enhance his story in a compelling way. It didn't reveal more about Truman. It's a cool scene, it's interesting, I love the acting but in terms of moving Truman's story forward ... eh, nope.
2:00 I love how the writing and delivery of that line. I think it shows Marlon does care about Truman and doesn't agree with where the show is going
Noah Emmerich does a great job in this film and it’s a damn shame that the scenes explicitly showing “Marlon” redeeming himself were cut
This scene should have been kept, because it would give clarification to Trumans "wife" to what happened to her after her breakdown. We need more movies like The Truman Show.
Here's a horrifying thought, what if Truman's child were to be born with a birth defect or illness? What would they do if that happened, especially since some may not be detectable right away, would they replace him and hope Truman doesn't notice, would they script the infant to die and just hope he'll want to have another? The premise of the show has so many points of potential disaster.
Maybe the kid would just make it and turn out fine (well, as fine as anyone being Truman Showed could be, that kid won’t have even seen sunlight)
I really wish they kept this scene in. I think Marlon is a monster like the rest of them but he cares on his own way, I think he was okay playing his role since he's just getting paid to drink and be someone's buddy and wasn't really "hurting" Truman after all. I mean Marlon was a child actor raised in this manufactured environment too he just knew the nature of his reality, it must all seem relatively normal to him. Then after Truman has his breakdown and the bridge scene happens where he's told to directly manipulate and lie to him with a ridiculous plot of bringing his father back from the dead to use against him I think he started to question if the whole setup was right or not, it went way beyond "maintainong an illusion" to forcing him to accept it for the benefit of others. So his dismissive face and scoffing at the actor meeting discussing plot points and his comment about Truman's death I took as genuine concern and finally bringing up the callous absurdly of it all since he's had to really think about it for the first time in his life.
This makes me think: what if the movie had been rewritten such that Truman himself was born into the TV show and his father was either a similar product of the construct or merely an actor that willingly birthed him into servitude.
Could be interesting if this movie got a spiritual successor, with not only that plot but also we wouldn't even know it was fake until the characters realize
The 1990s, when surveillance was dystopian and the Borg were our worst imaginable nightmare. How things have changed.
Science fiction foretells, but people take no heed. Feels a bit like Cassandra…
This has to be once of my favourite films of all time.
They should've kept this scene damn!
They probably thought this scene went too far. The producers probably thought the scene made the movie even "darker".
Very interesting scene, I can see why it was cut. Christoph is already seen as a megalomaniac, seeing him push so hard for the first on-air conception elevates that to a whole new level, and cynically the purpose is ultimate just to launch a second channel.
Ed Harris is a great villain.
great in westworld as well
Looking at all of these deleted scenes, you can see where the editor was going. If they had left in scenes like this one, the film would have been a lot darker.
Yep spooked. adds a new level of heartlessness to each character in the movie. Great behind the scenes though.
wow that's fucked up
Apparently the people up top wanted this removed because the film would have to have a 15 certificate if they revealed that they were willing to kill off Trueman in real life in favour of having another star in the role, but much younger & easier to control. There was also talk of a sex scene between Truman & Meryl but they wanted it family friendly. And this was part of a much more sinister vision the film could have taken.
Caldera Records perhaps in a remake someday
Try the Twilight Zone
Caldera Records
Nothing you said was true.
There was an original script named differently which should have been rated M more darker and sinister but the writer did not have money to make it in a movie, a studio bought it and it made it into this farce of a movie. Maybe thats why they bought the original script.
@@lonewolf3314 rated M
That's sick. He was really insane
That last line at the end IS the razors edge.
The scary idea of them maybe they have done this before, a whole cycle of repeating the same routine of life over and over again
This is so sick on so many levels.
Why was she in a neck brace? Truman didn't hurt her AT ALL. He was just acting erratic and then she took out the knife. He then defended himself from her attack. He didn't do anything to her neck.
Which is probably why they deleted the scene
She was possibly acting dramatically to sue the show for injuring her.
I do wonder what the plan was for removing Hannah/Meryl from the show. Were they going to do a big divorce plotline? Would she just disappear with some contrived explanation or without any explanation at all? I have a horrible feeling that Christof would have had Meryl killed off in order to instill some guilt in Truman for daring to question his world.
They probably had her "move out" of the town
Really interesting footage, yet somehow creepy too.
I wonder if the show-runners were intending to kill Truman off in an artificial way for dramatic effect (like an accident or murder). I have a hard time believing that they would continue with the cameras up until he dies of old age. It's a twisted idea and Marlon's blank expression just elevates it even further ... like if he kind of knew about it.
I truly believe they were planning on killing him after the baby was born because he was getting too suspicious...
yeah, in some twistered way probably. no one would want ot wathc an 80 year old on TV afterall
They should have a remake of this movie ,
from Marlon's perspective
To be honest, I'm a bit undecided on whether cutting this from the movie was a good or a bad choice. On one hand it gives a huge amount of lore about what's happening behind the scenes. On the other hand, the movie kind of doesn't need this, so perhaps it's good that it was cut.
The irony of having an actress known for her performance of Orphelia is ironic given that despite being totally powerless for almost all of Hamlet, she ends up being the most impactful agent in the story
The sick true life we live
When he talks about the baby and having two channels before going back to one channel when Truman dies - sounds sinister. Were they going to bump him off and concentrate on the child? The Next Generation. With a new cast?
When the movie too good I hope it would become 10 hour plus series
a 30 years series?
I'd like to believe that Walter didn't come back to the show just for the money, he wanted to see his son again.
It wasn't really his son, so..
He seems so mundane about the situation though. He reacts like they're just talking about next week's lunch special.
I would love a twist that proves Truman really was his son.
johnkelly90 it would ruin the premise
He wasn't his real father, Truman is the result of an unwanted pregnancy maybe his real mother doesn't even have the support of the father that's why she gave away his son as if he were nothing
For sure after Truman gets out... he will sue Kristof & the network for intentional inflicting trauma, invasion of privacy, fear, attempted murder, moral damages & he will be billionaire.
... he will get rich, for royalties of the product placements & his intellectual property right to publish his story.
Not only that, he is already a celebrity, he can guest to various tv shows & endorsements etc!
jhun dionz doubtful he could sue in a world that allowed this in the first place.
Yup! Truman will be set for life! Only an idiot wouldn't be able to see that Kristof's world was too harsh and nothing like the loving and compassionate outside world portrayed in the movie.
He would also be extremely paranoid and wouldn’t believe he is truly set out and would most likely end up killing him self.
@@bosseshang8479 Or... nothing would feel fake anymore, he'd be with the love of his life, meet all of his fans, heal a bunch of trauma, and be perfectly fine...

I feel like none of the characters in this scene truly care about Truman or about each other for that matter. His “mother” was showing no loyalty to her fictional daughter in law. Marlon question at the end felt so cold.
No, Marlon was being flippant and showing his disrespect for the show. This scene humanizes him.
Marlon was more showing his disgust at Christlof for the blatant disregard of Truman.
Perpetual guardianship
The comment from Truman's "best friend" is so chilling. You realize in that moment they are actually planning to kill Truman, when his life is deemed no longer worth watching, replacing him with the child. Good job by the editor cutting this one, it ups the sinister undertones beyond what they should've been.
That's not what the line was saying. The "best friend" was basically fed up with how cavalier they're being over the lives of Truman, themselves, and everyone involved. But he can't really do anything about it, so the most he could do was say the quiet part out loud in a cast meeting to needle the director. The real chilling thing is the lack of response.
Hearing his best friend talk about Truman’s death like it’s nonchalant makes me feel sick
you are wrong. Marlon is the only one who looks concerned about Truman
I can see why this was deleted. Didn't fit with the flow, and it also made Truman's confidants a lot more cold than the movie has them being portrayed. Sure, maybe they really are this way, but the film's tone doesn't allow for this much darkness, especially Truman's friend saying something like, "So when Truman dies..."
i feel that when Truman´s friend says that, its because he is feeling guilty that no one care of his friend like a real human: I think, after all, His friend sinceresly cares about Truman
My guess is that they cut it and Peter Weir leave the scene when the interviewer ask the producer Ed Harris about the reason why Truman’s Father was lost: Amnesia. And he also mentioned about the broke up and a Divorce. That would do if you cut a scene so dark. And tell the same thing.
If you read the Truman movie script, this and the other deleted scenes were written in there.
That’s why they are called deleted scenes.
That is how deleted scenes work. They start out in the script, then they're filmed, and then the director or whoever decides to remove it from the final edit.
I wouldn't believe anyone could stay in character than long for any amount of money. When would they even get time to spend their money and have their own free time?
This scene is very good but I'll admit the exclusion was better off since it makes the tone very dark. While we know they were trying to egg Truman into having a child, the concept of the child also being subjected to their father's predicament and ultimately become another avenue for profit plainly described before us is really intense.
This scene should have been in the movie.
Should have kept this one in the movie. How completely F'd up The Truman Show actually was didn't set in for me until around the third time I watched it. This scene personifies that, love this film.
The point that Marlon is getting at in the end is pretty dark when you think about it. He wants trumans offspring (however many children/grandchilden he has) to be on TV since he says avoids the question that marlon asks him about going back to a one channel format.
I always wondered what would happen if Christolf died. Eventually they would have shown Truman the door and send him out with $5 (not a typo) and said good lick.
+arcotroll They said in the script just then that they would start a two channel show. One for Truman and one for his kid.
+Lyka Bear that's horrible seperating him from his kid :(
drummerboi357 No. By two channel they meant Broadcasting the different camera on different programs, not separating them.
+arcotroll I think it is Chris that is holding that show together. Without him I think it would be over
I assumed Christof would have a successor. In this world there are probably numerous directors who would jump at the chance to direct at least a few seasons of the Truman show.
Nice little freeze-frame at 0:58
When Truman showed interest in Sylvia, why did they not just go in that direction? There was mutual interest and Truman would've gone along with it willingly, unlike the forced situation with Meryl.
Because Sylvia could have, and probably would have, told Truman the truth
My life pretty much
Argh, this movie is so weird when you think about it. All they need to do is build a tiny wall around Truman randomly and it'll be The Sims.
This would make the movie even more darker
One thing I've often found myself asking is, when the people in Truman's "life" say "You're my best friend" or "I love you" do they really mean it? It's probably why Truman was so obsessed with Silvia cause she was the only real person in his life. Some one who was fully honest and had genuine feelings for him. That and his dad. His adopted father actually broke into the set to see his son again. Though his motivations could be debatable given that in the end he chose to help in deceiving Truman.
Well, there is the scene with the wedding photo when Truman sees his "wife" crossing her fingers, so her "I love you until death do us part" was a lie
@@TomiKaski Indeed!
I like to think after the movie, Marlon and Truman stayed friends
I know Marlon was in on it but you can tell he feels guilty about it
at :06 , the prompter almost looks like their depicted as the Davinci's Last Supper Picture
The fact Cristoff doesn't say they are going to end coverage of Truman when he dies implies there'll be a live feed of his grave or maybe even his coffin
One thing I noticed about how Harris portrays Christof is that he exhibits similar traits to a director he famously punched out. Not sure if it was intentional on Weir's part or Harris' part, but everything Christof does from his tendency to wear black, to his obsession with water and water related disasters and finally his control freak mannerisms, steer solely in the direction of 80s James Cameron. Hell, both directors nearly drowned their "star."
I like this scene. If only because it shows a little bit of sympathy Marlon felt for Truman. Of course it changes nothing.
lovely vid... Thanks lots. :D
“So when Truman dies we go back to a single channel format?”
Damn dude, you plotting to murder the guy on National television?
No he is saying that to push that cast and crew to think about how little reguard they have human life
THANK YOU
Great extra scene. Shed light on many things I considered but never got an answer
Christof: Television's first on-air conception will still take place.
Random guy: "Yes!!!!" Claps hands.
Couldn’t he just plead insanity since he’s been treated like a commodity/slaves since birth and finding that out would probably lead to something insane happening?
When Marlon says "When Truman dies...", he's saying when truman dies of old age, right??
I watched the movie the other day and was just wondering what kind of plans they had for Truman's kid...
This Movie is Interesting but also Scary
They should re-release the movie with all the deleted scenes, i would go to the movies watch it.
I don't understand why the director had cutted this fantastic scenes. They made the movie perfect.
*cut
1:51 This "joke" is very heartless. And the fact that the actors laugh at it.
Wow I have never known that Truman's child would be next. That's pretty messed up.
When 'we the people' find out they are Truman, it will be the end of the world as we know it.
Dude wanted to create the real life version of Generations
Christof should've isolated Truman's knowledge about the outside world since his childhood. Atlantic City? New Orleans? Mardi Gras? That's just tempting him to leave
