  • Join me on my first day of my three week adventure in Alaska. This video is of me and Steve Phillips as we explore the beach and visit the old GPAA Cripple River camp. Watch out for the baby seal and be amazed at a beaver swimming along in the Bering Sea surf. Learn how to gold prospect a little too.
I would like to thank Spencer and Steve Phillips who invited me to visit with them in Alaska and at their gold claims "Phillip's Gold Camp" on the Casadepaga river.
I would also like to thank Garrett Metal Detectors for their continued support of my video making and exploring hobby.

Aquachigger I saw several moose when I lived in Anchorage years back. My bro-in-law ran into a momma, he had just enough time to get under his truck, he was lucky. We have them here in N. Idaho too. They'll come right up to our porch. They make our porch look as if it were made out of toothpicks. Sheesh
      Be careful out there, Beau.

The contrail shadows are cool. Lots of good info on them if you Google the term. Unfortunately the chemtrailers will likely chime in. Nice video.

I presume the trail ends because the aircraft descended to a lower altitude. Kinda neat how the shadow happened to line up in that direction as if it continued on its own.

Contrail shadow...Yes that is a shadow. You sometimes see those shadows in the Lower 48 from natural cirrus and altocumulas, too. Depends on the angle of the sun.

What you are seeing with the contrail is indeed the shadow. I've seen this affect hundreds of times here in Alaska. If the contrail evaporates and disappears the atmosphere is dry and rain is unlikely. If the contrail stays and spreads out it is moist and likely to soon rain.

what ?? No sunglasses for the wall !! ... No abandoned fishing lures !! ... No civil war memorabilia !! ... no new caves to explore !! what kind of adventure are you on ??
I don't wish to add to your woes [mistaking the back end of a dredge for the front end] but I feel I have to say that Beaver are not as rare up there as you've been informed Brother ... the GPAA have been battling against Beaver further north than the cripple river camp for a number of years, and I doubt their being there [the Beaver] has much [if anything] to do with global warming.
Have you not seen / watched their videos "Gold Fever" ??

Great vid Chigg. My husband went last year for a couple weeks, with his Hawaiian buddies, and came back with fifty pounds of halibut. It was awesome. Here in Hawaii, while we do have tuna and other delicious fish, we don't have halibut, so it was great to get some fresh from Alaska. I can hardly wait until he goes back and gets more.

Aquachigger, glad to see you going after some gold. Just a note, you have the dredge explanation backwards. The part that you're pointing out in the video as the bucket line, is actually the tailings conveyor. The bucket line is buried in the water and gold bearing material. I've always wanted to go to AK after gold. Can't wait to see the rest of this series!

Was thinking sea otter and then you said beaver. Beaver sounds very unlikely to me, their normal environment and the way they live doesn't fit here. Sea otter skipping through the surf looking for crabs and small fish is normal and nice to see.

You described the dredge backwards. The right side is where the tailings would be shot out. It's up like that so it could create a pile and not get backed up. The left side was the arm that digs into the ground.
