Anything that helps diabetics manage their disease more successfully is A-OK in my book...even if it does happen too late for my husband, I'm still excited for it.
Excellent opportunity to point out that while dedicated engineers are great for solving things like this, it can't be the only instance. Cochlear implants is one case where hearing engineers got a long way into making the thing before anyone asked the deaf community how a technology like that would affect them.
*Fun Fact: Even though the name "Titanium" tends to be viewed by the general public as some sort of invincible super-metal, I believe that titanium alloys are actually comparable in strength to plain old steel. The actual benefits are that it is light and I think more chemically durable (corrosion-resistant) than steel. Sort of like an expensive compromise between alumin(i)um and steel.*

"Oh this guard is running his internal holster wirelessly, it would be a shame if I disabled it so he couldn't access his side arm." Or "the big troll driving the truck that's chasing us down is running his cyber eyes wirelessly. It would be bad for him and his gang if I 'accidentally' turned his eyes off or hijacked his image link for a second to obstruct his view with random trids! From the matrix"
Obviously when they say wifi they dont mean 2.4Ghz 802.11 broadband wifi. they mean specialised signals like the one from the wii u to the gamepad or between some wireless devices without bluetooth capability. they can only be accessed by devices that are looking on the right frequency and can decode the messages on it. also keep in mind that a hack like that would have to be targeted at someone specifically by someone else specifically looking to harm them. they likely wont get paid for it ever so theyre best off focusing their efforts on something that can affect multiple people at once like bank computers rather than a blood glucose monitor or something.

@crashcourse Hey love your videos! However I can't help but notice as an ICU nurse myself you have made a small mistake, and I know you are very good with accuracy. In an ICU you measure blood pressure through an Arterial Line not an IV(Intravenous) line. Measuring BP through an IV line would be impossible.

Things like pacemakers and such that can fix our bodies from the inside are certainly incredible, but how do they compare to such feats of fictional engineering as the Death Star, Star Trek’s holodecks and replicators, or the Terminator?
