    Regarding the leak, you were searching for leaks while the cap was off of the expansion tank. Maybe this means system didn’t build normal pressure and leak is only present when system is pressurised. Just a thought, I don’t know

    An EBR valve is a known weak point on most diesels. However the difference to NOx is significant in a highly populated place like England. Anyway they are about to tighten up on this sort of thing in the MOT so hang onto any parts you remove.

  • @metalworker007
    @metalworker007 3 місяці тому +4

    Well the leak will haappen when its up to temperature and makes some pressure, ..you will never see pressure with the cap removed, so that's why you didnt find it.. You can also screw on a coolant system pressure tester. a good one is expensive, but you can make one with your old pressure cap, fit a shrader tyre valve to it and pump it up to 15 psi, that will show the leak.

    Also just replaced my expansion tank with the same problem, I’m hoping that clears up my coolant leak problem as there was a leak at the sensor,
    Next job is changing my intercooler pipe as it’s leaking Air from the sensor connection 🥳

    Buy yourself a pressure tester. Really cheap to buy the kit and will save you loads of time diagnosing leaks

    I had a coolant leak recently on my N47 E82. It was down to a damaged radiator as the fins on the bottom deformed. Leaked coolant from max to min after a 30 min drive! Replaced with an alloy radiator now haha

      @@GeorgeAusters I had coolant seeping out from the bottom part of the radiator (looking through the fan shroud). And the coolant would then blow towards the subframe when I was driving.

    Not sure if this is similar to the M57, but on my 330d E91 the leak was due to a damaged radiator drain plug which I couldn't see until I removed the intercooler. The leak was just dripping onto the intercooler and evaporating...

  • @yosemitesam283

    my 56 plate e91 320d was loosing coolant, every few days I would have to top it up and like you I couldn’t see any leaks anywhere, then one day I was sat in traffic and noticed a tiny bit of steam coming from the front edge of the bonnet. I checked it as soon as I got home and found that the radiator had a tiny pin hole in it and that was the issue. Thankfully a new radiator was surprisingly cheap. Hope you find the problem with yours and hopefully it is a nice cheap and easy fix. Joe

    I had a coolant leak on a corsa D that was driving me mad. I eventually found out after the changing the coolant that I had a pin hole leak on the radiator. Dropped on rad seal and its now sorted. It was an old car and I didnt want to go to the trouble of changing the rad.

    It actually might be the expansion tank. I had a 650i a couple of months ago that kept running low on coolant. When we finally had it on the lift, we saw the trail of coolant coming out of the side of the tank.

    BMW650I 2007 convertible, having oil leakage for few months, changed the head gasket but leaking continued. Coolant started as well, assuming it comes out of the excuse like smoke. Because of the main transmission, engine gasket the engine had so much pressure, the car stopped due to the leaking, the Alamium pipes the rubber parts cracked. Although the car is over 17 years old with 156K kilometre. SO having the oil leakage fixed as well as the pipes etc. I have had this car new SO I have some ideas the issues. Soon will need to change the inlet return Alamium pipe which I think it’s where the coolant becoming smoke. Throughout my experience for the last 36 years owning BMW 6 series. Beautiful to drive very safe BUT very expensive to maintain and doesn’t like hot weather much. The AC is excellent, performance as well. Would love to get similar but newer OR the 8 series convertible.
    BMWs in general do have leakage issues oil and coolant.
    The Chinese cars are taking the market by storms. Perhaps in 10 years time We won’t see much of European, Japanese and Amarican. The latest Avatar Hawaii EV much cheaper than competitors. BMW once becomes old basically you need to budget $300 monthly for Maintance. Thank you for the video footage it’s an inspiration.

    If emissions devices were made to be serviceable it would make folks far more likely to keep them installed, but they really do not design them with serviceability in mind. Removing them will lead to marginal power gains (more responsive at low RPMs, but same peak power, etc.). They're removed for reliability reasons most of the time.
    MOT is one concern, but my bigger worry is insurance. If you were to drive a car with emissions controls removed and were in a serious or fatal crash (whether your fault or not), the vehicle may be brought off for inspection (definitely by police, but possibly by your insurer). You may end up being uninsured!
