It's subjective, not science. Things that bother one person about a figure will not bother another person, as it's personal preference. Some people want highest points of articulation, other people want a sculpt that is very visually accurate that articulation doesn't compromise.

Facts! ML has gotten better over the years, yeah they still have flaws but come on 25$ for a figure?! Hella worth it imo if you want articulation then SH Figuarts might be up your ally bbbuuuttttt 80$+ for one figure? In this economy? Maybe I could sacrifice some points of articulation and sculpt just to save some money 😂

Toy designer here: A metal mold to make action figures takes thousands of dollars to manufacture. Want a new figure? Fine, we gotta start from scratch on Zbrush (or traditionally sculpt it). Then comes articulation. The more articulation on the figure the more money it costs especially for pinless action figures.
What’s that? You don’t like how it looks cut up? Articulation is destructive to the overall design of the figure and there’s no way around that. You want a nice looking sculpted figure? Limit the articulated points. You want a highly articulated figure? Fine but you’re going to compromise the design.
Paint jobs are no joke either. Mass manufacturing’s goal is to get them in and get them out. Custom paint it yourself if your Batman’s blue cape doesn’t match the rest of the figure. It blows me away that adult collectors incessantly complain. It’s like watching 40 something adults that never emotionally matured past 12. You want premium figures then you’re going to have to pay for it because you’re not going to get it for $19.99.

I agree. As a McFarlane Batman collector, I hated how much the blue Azbats and blue Knightfall Batman were overpriced by scalpers, so I ended up painting 2 myself because I can’t understand paying a higher price just for a different color variant.

Oh lord! I don't even know where to begin about how much i agree with your comment! People were complaining about the lack of accesories with the classified gi joe line. Some rightful so. Braker with the ram cycle was ridiculously bare! But most people complained like they were robbed at gunpoint when the packaging made it clear (pun intended) what you're getting when buying the figures! And now that they're giving us a crap load of accesories AND REALISTIC TRADEMARKED FIREARMS, those same people complain about getting "too much". Really???? REALLY????? And then they complain about the prices being higher for those deluxe figures! Do these people not understand that if you want more you have to pay more?!?!?!?!? We're not gonna get a figure with alternate heads/hats, alternate hands, multiple firearms, swords, knives, backpack and sometimes a pet for the same price as a figure with a backpack and two nerf guns! I hate people. I mean, i don't mind the complaints when they're based in logic. Like not wanting a known favored character to be a target exclusive! Those figures might never even see the shelf! But throwing a fit about something like the plastics not being the exact same color is just dumb! They've changed a lot that we complained about. Like the Redecos without all the futuristic color schemes. Using realistic firearms. Creating the whole retro line for people who want the old designs only. Rereleasing those hard to find target exclusives with a little bit different so you don't feel totally left out since you didn't get the exclusives. Giving us "deluxe" figures for those of us who don't mind paying more to actually get more. It might that them a while but that did make big changes for us. And these people just look past that like none of it happened. I hate people!

@@edwardniqqa-hanz9099 100%. I have to bite my tongue and not say anything on social media due to job reasons but damn it’s incredibly frustrating when working on something only to see these dicks on Reddit complain because they can’t pose it “the right way” (WTF does that even mean???) on their shelves with the rest of their toys. Then getting into pissing contests in the comments sections. Social media really ruined a lot of shit with these dude wanting to show their toys in these action panels in Instagram. But at the end of the day, like I said, it’s emotionally stunted manbabies that still think you can get toys with prices from the 90s and further back that is really ruining the hobby of collecting.

Who said we were asking for “premium” figures at 19.99? People always assume what it is I am complaining about rather than actually watching the video. I am comparing figures WITHIN THE LINE. I’m not comparing them with more expensive imported figures, I have never done that. You’re simply assuming at this point. Hasbro has already shown they can make great figures with insane articulation and solid paint apps. All we are asking for is consistency…

Mcfarlane has a big problem with unneeded color variants and figures that only 20% of collectors would want while forgetting that there is essential characters that we still haven’t gotten yet, and making a figure people want but changing one thing on the design that throws off the whole figure.

  • @TMan978

Here's one reality people who are crazy anal need to realize. Not everybody cares about the most minute detail.
There's also the reverse of the problem that's being brought up here. Some people complain about everything on purpose because it's controversial and they think people will jump on and get them talking.
My myself am always honest but after years of collecting and seeing promo shots of a figure, I buy the toy knowing exactly what I'm getting. Now if someone sends me some random toy I don't care about and it has a bunch of issues and I don't mention them, that would be weird.

Folks don't like to think critically....and its waaay worse when it comes to toys.
But you hit the nail right on the head!
They are pushing product to get free product. And they get the stuff soooo fast, they don't even stop to appreciate what they get.
    Zero passion.
Reviews are Objective. What does the figure DO or NOT DO. The reviewer's opinions come second.
Showcases are subjective because its all about what the showcaser feels about the figure.
If someone really loves this hobby and is passionate about it, the difference between the 2 is blatantly obvious.
Keep up the good work! Never stop telling the truth. Keep enjoying the hobby for the love of the work put into the stuff this hobby is based around.

While i think you're right in some cases - toy tubers can hold back from what they really think - some of this video is just "Why Don't Toy Tubers All Have The Same Opinion As Me?"
Eg. People just value different aspects differently. Some people demand buttefly joints on every figure, other people think they make the shoulders look weird and cut up and don't visually work in a lot of cases. There are always tradeoffs, companies have to make decisions and hit price points and will usually try to appeal to a happy middle.

I get where you're coming from (I just watched a video where the leg joints broke off as soon as it was removed from the packaging, but the reviewer still gave the figure 4 out of 5). For me though, the biggest problem isn't review channels or the manufacturers, it's the collectors who buy figures they don't like who are the problem. The only job of the manufacturers is to make money for the shareholders. If collectors want manufacturers to update body moulds and joints, they need to stop buying the figures that reuse parts. Hitting the manufacturers in the wallet is the only way to change things.

Shills will shill, that's what they do. They would rather compromise their integrity in exchange for free stuff and access to the designers, PR reps, events, etc. It happens with every commercial product.
In terms of strictly action figures, some reviewers may just not care enough to be bothered by certain things. If you collect Marvel Legends you know what your getting into in terms of molds, articulation, paint, etc, you either choose to accept it or not. QC issues are different and ignoring those as "oh well" that is inexcusable.
I know you said no names but Anthony of Anthony's Customs has no chill, he calls out every company and gives zero Fs. if you want a completely unbiased opinion he's the reviewer you need to watch.

Great video! Collecting has gotten a lot worse due to scalpers and the price hikes. It doesn't help the amount of uncritical lens being used when corpos give subpar figures for the price or hike prices a lot. Worst is when people within the community dismiss all criticism as whining or being "entitled" whatever that means.

If you don't like a repaint, just don't buy it. If it bugs you that the companies do this, maybe you should talk to the manufactures about production budgets. Most long-time collectors are in the end game phase for mass release waves of figures from companies like Hasbro, Mcfarlane, and Mattel. Most definitve version have been made a few times over and if not it's better to wait for Mafex, Mezco, or 3rd party. When you own over 1000 figures, quality definitely is the priority over quality. Hasbro has already announced 50 figures for 2025. Most collectors don't have room for 50 figures, let alone 50 Marvel legends, plus whatever else you collect. Also, if you collect vehicles 2023, 2024, and preorders for 2025 has already stretched the limits of collecting space. With this I would be surprised if Hasbro extends the Master License for Marvel Legends 6 inch figures another 5 years. I can't see them being sought after past 2026 because most must-have comic characters and MCU doesn't sell well enough.

No matter what I say I am *CONSTANTLY* accused of being "A TROLL", "A COMPLAINER" and "NEGATIVE". I do complain about things I don't like, just like everybody does, but that's not all I do. But some people only see the complaining & ignore everything else. It's always 1 or 2 that only focus on the negative & then accuse me of only being negative. It has been the same exact thing on the TFW2005 Transformers board, recently on the Rebelscum Star Wars board & just today on the For Eternia board I got accused of being a troll. Just for talking about what I've been up to with my hobby & my customizing plans.
I haven't posted a new video on my channel in over a year because of this constant BS. Every time I think about posting a new video I'm worried about every single word I say so I just don't bother. I don't want to "get into it" with anybody. I don't need the hassle. It's not worth the trouble. It has given me a major complex & mental block.
And then I see all the fighting between the toy collecting channels, especially the GI Joe Classified community & I say "SCREW THAT!" Copyright striking each other & trying to get each other canceled. I don't want to get involved. I posted a video showing off my custom figure & some A-hole commented about my "sausage fingers" but never said anything about the figure. Who needs this shit??? Adam Sandler's line from The Water Boy fits me perfectly "I don't like confrontations, I'm a Virgo!"

I respect it, valid for the avid collectors, but you gotta also keep it real with Hasbro being more than just avid collectors. And I’m not saying anything you said is inherently wrong, this Venom should’ve been fully pinless, could’ve had a better neck hinge. If im running Marvel Legends and I see an issue that only avid collectors would find annoying and knowing most who do find it annoying are also capable of customizing their figures to be that way and I can save myself and the company a few cents for every figure, that makes sense from business perspective. I don’t like that logic, but that seems like what it comes down to. And I think that mentality has kinda started shifting in our favor over the years, but is def still prevalent.
