I can't imagine how spoiled you have to be in order to even think that 60, 50, 40 and 30 fps is not playable. Bruh, 25 fps is the lowest framerate for comfortable gameplay for me, and stable 30 fps is great. Everything over that is just a nice addition to the experience, but it's not important.
This is actually a question I’ve asked. I worked at a computer company and I’ve had numerous old computers being brought in, and I’ve always wanted to turn them into baritone bots.
Actually this is done on VM. If you do it directly on hardware you will get more fps. Your biggest problem would be to track down the drivers that are compatible with your ancient OS, which might not exist at all actually. The reason why this runs slow and making the window smaller helps is because the VM is not using a proper driver and it rolls back to compability mode (so it's not actually using the GPU). This happens without hardware acceleration.

Is that a challenge? It's possible... there's a demo for the original IBM PC called 8088 Domination that can play full motion video at various resolutions, framerate, and color depth on the 4 color CGA card (and sound through a sound card).
I wish I had an 80s IBM pc. I LOVE old pc hardware. I (legally not able to be employed, but I make $10 a month for chores), considered paying all chore money for 8 years to get an old IBM pc. I just bought a 36" floppy cable and a Molex to floppy power cable to get a floppy drive working correctly on a win98 era Dell multiplex. Hahahaha
I've seen worse. My first mc experience was on my grandpa's old laptop in 2012 on 1.2.5 Had 256 colours, but due to some error, it would only draw the vertices, not the faces, so blocks would just be a few 1pixel lines in either green, brown, grey... Whole thing ran at about the same framerate as this here on the video, despite being a much older version. (That laptop was just horrible) It was also a pirated version, just as a cherry on top.
The funniest thing is that if I understood it correctly, someone maintaining the Hypixel server is gonna know that someone managed to play on it from 1998. And they are going to start wondering how exactly someone living in a theoretical dystopian dictatorship somewhere, where the PCs can only run Windows 98, managed to set up the infrastracture to connect to the outer world. And why the heck are they using it to play Hypixel. Then they will assume that this is a bigbrain communication system for rebels somewhere where no one freaking expects and will start their own personal mission on adapting Hypixel servers to run on the oldest operational systems as well. Just because screw dictatorships freedom for the win. And now imagine them doing all of this stuff and seeing this video and comparing it's upload date to Hypixel logs. And then they read this comment. I see you, Bob. We know what you wanted to do here in your little cube game. The intention is a crime against the regime. We do not care that you are not in our borders. Expect us to visit you for a talk.
because this was on a vm, it will say VMWare. it says exactly so in the details in the top right corner, where the fps and coordinates etc are. but if someone did this on actual physical hardware then yes, would be interesting to see their reaction. might think it's spoofed
I don't think that joke would work with minecraft, since this is actually minecraft, just kinda with a jank launching system. it would probably work with "modern windows" as the subject.
I feel like if he were to do this again, he should do ROBLOX, it has a much higher chance of running that than GTA, (I know this was a joke btw so don't woosh me or anything)
Filmora uses terrible advertising techniques. They make spoof sites of other free editing software (Like Davinci Resolve) that redirects you to Filmora. They hardly ever tell you theres a watermark in the free version, when i tried it out, I was outraged that my work had a huge watermark that made it near-impossible to even tell whats going on. They also had youtube advertisements which said stuff like "Do you want to be a youtuber like Pewdiepie or Markiplier? (Not kidding) So it was obviously targeted at younger audiences who are more willing to just download random things. In other words: sellout.
What Mr. Sellout says: Wondershare Filmora is a great video editor, as well i like to shave my beard with Dollar Shave Club, while using Nord VPN so that government can't get me, and i made my website thanks to Squarespace, and learning various stuff with Skillshare, and i love the social media TikTok, as well as i play the best P2W game called RAID: Shadow Legends. What Dr. Zoomer says: It is me, Davinci Resolve gang, loving to buy shavers from the store, trying to hide myself from the government with SoftEther VPN, hosting a site myself with Apache Webserver and WordPress, when i try to learn things myself, as a Redditor, and yeah, Minecraft good. Haha, Mr. Sellout can't beat me with all his sponsored products I'm on Dr. Zoomer's side, right? Mr. Sellout can't beat me as well.
I think with physical hardware the game would have faired much better in FPS. Virtualbox doesn't do gaming good unless you do GPU passthrough even then that is not it's intended purpose and games will run 'decent' on virtualbox. I think there is a way to enable "hardware acceleration" bit it's like 256mb Video Memory.
Yeah, just get Davinci Resolve or something, that's another free one. Doesn't have a watermark as far as I know, but to be completely honest my crappy 7 YO laptop couldn't handle it.
For those curious on how you can do this yourselves, you can't. The developer doesn't want to give out instructions on how he modified Java to work on 98 because it took him too much time, and he doesn't want to give out the modded files because apparently Oracle is like Nintendo when it comes to copyright. Fun.
Part of why the game is so slow is because Virtualbox doesn't use your graphics card directly, instead it emulates one that is only good for video output. Also, the VM isn't optimised for the Windows 9x kernel. If you run this game on a real machine with windows 98, it could actually be playable.
The most amazing part about this is it can run Minecraft but needs to restart if you want to change the amount of colours on the screen

Your experiment in computer 98 is very unique

I agree filmora is shit without premium

I think with physical hardware the game would have faired much better in FPS. Virtualbox doesn't do gaming good unless you do GPU passthrough even then that is not it's intended purpose and games will run 'decent' on virtualbox.
