    Cool build! I’m considering getting this model. I think the only thing is that when you made the paint so dark, the stickers seemed really out of place. But I respect your craftsmanship and dedication ✊

      Thanks Kane. I think you're right - I underestimated how the varnish coats would darken the paint.

    How come this is called 1/48 in the title screen? Asking coz I'm looking for a 1/48 tie?

      This video was uploaded three years ago and you're the first person to notice that! :) That's my mistake, sorry - it definitely is 1:72. I'll try to update the thumbnail later this week. Thanks for spotting it! Unfortunately I'm not sure where you can get a 1:48 TIE from.

    @model nerd how did you obtain that glossy finish of the model?

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 роки тому

      IIRC I gave it a coat of Tamiya TS-13.

    Where did you get XF18 and XF19 spray paint I can’t find them anywhere🧐 btw I really like your Star Wars kit vids

      Hi. All the paints I used for this were regular Tamiya acrylics, applied using my airbrush.

      I think any airbrush should work to be honest.

    How do you get the water decals on so well? Whenever I put them on, they will stick for 1 min before drying up and falling off.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 роки тому +1

      That's strange - they certainly shouldn't fall off. I use a gloss coat first and once that is dry I put the decals on using a setting solution like Tamiya Markset.

    • @chuckmann7127
      @chuckmann7127 4 роки тому

      @@ModelNerd Wait so you soak the decals in a setting solution rather than water?

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 роки тому +1

      Sorry, I didn't explain very well. No, I use water as normal to apply them, but after getting them in position I use Markset to soften them and get them to conform to the panel lines etc.

    I don’t understand why you used a semi gloss metal flake paint instead of the correct dry flat gray like the actual movie prop. O well

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  5 років тому +3

      Not really sure what you mean. The paints are regular Tamiya XF (flat) paints, and aren't metal flake. After the gloss coat for the decals they were given a mat coat. Looks good to me!

    Your not the only1 using semi gloss paint and clear on their first generation Star Wars ships To me using semi gloss paint or any type of shiny paint on a Bandai first-generation Star Wars kit is like using house paint on a Ferrari it’s just wrong lol 😝
