    Love how the driver goes sod this and just jumps in and drives off again at full pelt! I'm a lorry driver and to be fair when you end up in these situations with everyone shouting at you, you feel hopeless. He didn't intend to get stuck and when you're in a unfamiliar area its a nightmare sometimes. Its one of them situations. You feel bad its happened but what the hell else can you do now its happened.

    This is a type of a mistake where my sympathy goes to the driver. Sometimes the roads you have to take are really tricky so one minor miscalculation can land you in big trouble.

      I had signs the other day for a bridge >7< but it wasn't clear if it would be on my route from the signage. Anyway, it turned out my route would have taken me over that bridge. So I turned off left but there was a left hand bend with walls each side. Similar sort of thing to this video actually.
      Anyway, I didn't want to chance it as I knew it was very tight and didn't know what was around the bend, so I had to reverse back down and in to the junction.
      I plan my routes each morning before leaving, but this job came through mid shift from the transport office.
      I could have attempted the bridge as it said (expect for buses) so i knew the bridge would be wider than stated. Buses are 6 inches narrower than my truck though and that may have been the difference. And you don't want to get jammed in on a bridge with a line of cars behind.
      So in conclusion, we drivers don't blindly get ourselves into these situations, we actively try to avoid such occurences. However, the law of averages coupled with the pressure from the customer and transport office doesn't place the odds in our favour.

    • @jokuihmehyyppa
      @jokuihmehyyppa 3 роки тому +4

      @@mikeh2006 It's one thing to get into trouble because you tried a dumb U turn and another to be on unfamiliar roads and suddenly realize that all of the roads are bad choices for your truck. I also know that sometimes you have no other road you can take to your destination and that one road has some realöy tricky part that can be especially bad for a beginner. I witnessed the struggles of a full trailer trying to reach its destination at a construction site. Had to get there but the construction site intersection was awfully small for a vehicle of that size so it took a lot of assistance from the other workers with planks, excavators etc. to keeo the trailer's rear tires from falling into a ditch.

      @@jokuihmehyyppa yea exactly. Our customers want stuff delivering in the most random places. Sometimes inside buildings, up mountains, railway compounds, underground car parks. All my drops are craned off as my truck has a crane on. So you have to then take into consideration the set up and operation for the crane. Over head cables, trees, cars and to fully extend the legs on both sides requires 17ft.

    A lot of Monday Morning Quarterbacks on here. Driving HGV's in this country is hard, tiring, involves working long hours, often away from home and can be bloody stressful. There are loads of 'Unsuitable for HGV's' roads in the UK, and a lot of the ones that are supposedly suitable, aren't really. It's not too difficult to miss the odd sign when you're tired and stressed out. This guy obviously made a mistake, so I suppose all of you lot slagging him off have never made a mistake on the road then? You must be perfect.

    The junction in question is in the welsh village of Beddgelert and is the junction of 2 'A' Roads. There is (and I have double checked on Google) no alternative route in the near or far vicinity (and Welsh main roads, including Trunk Roads, aren't known for their width and easiest to navigate) or a sign saying 'Unsuitable for HGVs.' It is also a bus route as well. As far as I could tell from the video footage that Lorry is as far over as it could get. I'm guessing the bridge is Listed so there isn't anything which could be done about that.

      I did Tesco at Pwhelli a couple of years back. I turned left off the A5 because it was marked as an A road. I had an interesting drive & when I came to that bridge I had to take my time. Trailer was only 38 foot & there was a pub car park, sort of, to swing the arse round. There was a bus stopped on the other side of the river holding back any traffic, which never came. I got round in one, with a couple, maybe one & a half inches to spare.
      The drop said they don't usually come that way & yours is the biggest yet. I suspected this agency lad ,me, was on a Stobart test run. But I'm glad I came the way I did, along the river. That way I missed the broomstick jockey.

      But there is an alternative route, he should never have been on the A4085 from Caernarfon, It is clearly signposted that the road is unsuitable for HGV's, he should have been on the A487 to Porthmadog, there is nothing between Beddgelert and Porthmadog along the A4085 that would require a delivery vehicle this size, the driver used a sat nav instead of a proper map, and ignored the road signs, very lazy, very poor from a professional driver. I didn't need to look on Google maps as I have been climbing the mountains of Snowdonia for 50 years, I know every inch of these roads.

    • @tom201090
      @tom201090 4 роки тому +1

      @@urbanastro4701 not necessarily the case. A delivery may have required him to use that road (which is an A road after all). Some companies have multiple drops per trailer. So there are plenty of legitimate reasons why the driver may be down that road. Also the driver may not be local. Additionally I don't think you can fully determine whether a driver is lazy or poor from a 60 second video clip. I do have a HGV paper map and there are no additional instructions or notes on it regarding Beddgelert (excluding the 14'9" Bridge to the south of the village). On the map it looks like an alternative route suitable for a HGV between Porthmadog and Caernarfon. Additionally the turn at Beddgelert can't be any worse than that junction at Rhayader surely?

    • @urbanastro4701
      @urbanastro4701 4 роки тому

      @@tom201090 There is literally nowhere to deliver on that road, It may be an "A" road but 30 seconds out of Caernarfon and you would know no HGV can get anywhere, even if he didn't turn over the bridge at Beddgelert and carried on up toward the Nant Gwynant pass he would have been stuck as well because even though it also is an "A" road no HGV could negotiate the narrow winding steep pass, there is literally no excuse or reason for an HGV to be anywhere near Beddgelert, like I said I know every inch of these roads, you had a quick look on Google maps, you are just plain wrong on this.

    Some folk on here criticising the driver haven’t a clue. I’ll invite any of you to come out with me as I deliver to farms throughout Lincolnshire.Some of the roads I have to go down are unreal including weight limited and very narrow uneven what can only be described as tracks. It’s a hard, long stressful day but we do our best and get on with it....

    • @RonaldRaygun53
      @RonaldRaygun53 3 роки тому

      @RonaldRaygun53 3 роки тому

      @Pollywog what I’m saying is look at it from both parties… it’s so easy to criticise… of course I have sympathy for that home owner but you should see some of the roads and lanes i have to go down in order for me to achieve my deliveries… it’s a horrible and stressful job at times.. but I get on with it…

    • @RonaldRaygun53
      @RonaldRaygun53 3 роки тому

      @Pollywog in an ideal world your right but unfortunately the roads in the UK especially when you get into rural areas aren’t suitable for hgv’s but we just have to get on with it…. If I’m delivering 10 tonne of animal feed or 10 tonne of chemical in ICB’s it’s just not cost effective to send it in a fleet on smaller vehicles.
      Like I say it’s easy to critique a driver but if you actually went out and saw what we have to do on a daily basis in order to get food in to shops n supermarkets I think you’d change your opinion…

Coaches often jammed in the pass trying to pass each other,the bridge was well negotiated by the truck driver,there's usually herds of people standing on this bridge getting in the way.....

Seeing some of the other comments though, it does seem as if lorry drivers think they are above everyone else on the roads and can do what they want. This video just shows many of them are not as skilled as they like to think.

      If you can load 33 pellets and each is value from UK 🇬🇧 to any EU 🇪🇺 countries ex. 80 to 100 💶. You can go home paid even up to 2000 💶 one way. But driver want to kill Speditor being collector as DPD driver and his card is running out of time.
      I do love context " can you do something we are a bit behind " want to kill.
      I do often fight with UK 🇬🇧 roads. No many are in metric and that time you will not even stick a sharp hair into my back bottom part of body 😀😀😀.

    Rather him than me. Some routes need to be taken as they’re our only option to get to where we need to be to complete a delivery, where reversing out of a situation isn’t an option. Unless you are familiar with local roads and know which to avoid we don’t know what we will come up against that may be hidden from view around the next corner, waiting to test our driving abilities to their limits. We are however professional drivers and what decision we make and manoeuvres we do are ultimately our responsibility.

    "Advisory signing
    This type of signing consists generally of white on blue signs with legends such as Unsuitable for Heavy Goods Vehicles or with a pictorial representation of an HGV showing a red slash through the vehicle symbol and are to indicate that a road may be generally unsuitable for an HGV.
    Unsuitable may be due to:
    limited width due to sharp bend or walls either side of the road
    steep gradients such that a long or articulated vehicle may struggle to negotiate the hazard
    The signing is advisory and there is no recourse to the law if an HGV tries to negotiate the road."

    • @chrislee5096

      Good grief. FINALLY! It's taken this far down the comments before someone has pointed out that the road is legal and that 'unsuitable for HGVs' means 'probably not advisable but legal' If lorries were banned down there there would be a MGW sign, length limit or restriction on tonnage for goods vehicles. Also those complaining about the 'Karen': If their BMW was slightly scratched by a lorry I'm sure they'd either stay indoors thinking, 'Well it's only a bit of filler and paint from Halfords - shouldn't take half an hour' or would be out there with tea and biscuits for the driver seeing if the lorry was damaged. It's the woman's home for God's sake!

    Again inexperience and in this case incompetence is to blame and the responsibility lies 100% with the operator, question did the operator give the driver a written planed route or did they ensure he was using professional quality sat nav and not a car sat nav the owner of the property should seek legal advice about taking a civil case against the operator to a civil court, there they would receive much better recompense.
