You may have to hang back and wait a long time, but sooner or later either traffic will see what's going on and make room or there'll be a gap. You may get the finger a time or two, or some horn, but that's much better than getting into a pickle like this where one wrong move may cost you your job. Credit where it's due, buddy did a hell of a job getting out of that jam and I applaud him for it. BUT, I bet you in the future, he'll wait as long as he has to in order to make sure this doesn't happen again.

This happened to me once in the Bronx. My GPS told me to get off the highway at the wrong exit, and the fun immediately began. And for extra spice and excitement, I was in a commercial area. I almost took out a street lamp making a left turn. I had to get out and put my tandems all the way up in order to make the turn. Folks, DO NOT EVER use Co-Pilot as your trucking GPS. Nothing but garbage. I can't tell you how many times it has put me in stressful situations.
I've tried to collaborate with Google maps on trucking routes to no avail. Crowd sourcing the information from trusted truckers can map out most of a state inside of a month

I just got my CDL license and I can truly say it's one thing to be at school learning and it's another thing when you're out here in the world the driver was patient enough to wait on help..It's called getting experience
He is definitely a rookie. He didn't even swing the truck wide enough to make that turn judging by the position where the truck is. And that dummy that parked in that no parking zone didn't help either.

Funny you mention that, because I remember truckers talking to me in a bookstore about how, in Iraq, they were told to deliver an envelope put into an empty 55 foot trailer, 100 miles in a hostile zone full of IEDs. (Private contractor truckdrivers.) It was insane and a scandal, because the corporations was promised a cost + model, where the Gov' will compensate every service double - including lost of equipment and repairs. (That one envelope was considered a full haul.) Dangerous, unethical, yet paid well. The drivers that told me this quit immediately after the first tour contract was over.

Unfortunately the ATA prefers we let Darwin sort out the new guys, as it's cheaper than actually training drivers. Gonna see more of this as we further relax hiring standards instead of improving existing drivers quality of life
I found myself in this situation once in Montreal Quebec. One fella got the neighborhood together and moved the cars I needed to move, to get out of it. Love you Canada! Always had a great experience! For those do not understand how we get in this mess, we are visitors, and can get lost, just like everyone else. I found myself in an apartment complex in NJ at 2AM once. Missed my Jersey jug handle. If you don't know what that is, neither did I until I seen it. And there is a reason they call them Jersey barriers.

Some turns in cities are not made for semi-trucks, did anyone notice the wires curled up in front of the fire hydrant? Looks like lots of trucks GPS's send them that way and they are not supposed to or designed to..
It’s the law in most US cities too, but people ignore it and the cops don’t have the manpower to enforce it. Try pulling out from a cross street in winter when there are snow piles blocking your view of oncoming traffic.

@the geth LOL Look at the sign. It's a street cleaning sign - no parking on FRIDAYS. Those signs apply to the entire side of the street. The other side of the street will have the same signs but specifying a different day. Any other day it's a legal spot. It's called "alternate side parking rules".

As a trucker I know exactly what this situation feels like! I’ve been in these predicaments a few times and man I remember every second of them your anxiety and frustration can cripple you in these moments if you don’t remain calm and the ass holes around you make it 10xs worst! This is where you have to enter your bubble and block out everything and everyone that’s interfering with your focus. Days, weeks, months & years later you’ll always be thankful for these moments believe it or not they give you all the confidence you need for future situations and they help you become a better driver.

I would set out my triangles on opposing traffic sides, then back up to try to get the tandems as far right as possible maybe even sliding the tandems all the way forward just to be able to make that turn (correcting the weight later). At least the flip flop guy was making a left turn and not a right turn. This is pretty tricky but if a peterbilt 385 truck can do it I know any other truck can do it.
If you are driving for Western Express have semi truck GPS of your own. Once the directions are input into the company GPS, input it into your own semi truck GPS. Take a look at where you are going first. Click line by line please double check it on your GPS

I don't know the urban parking rules in the USA. But in Halifax, NS, Canada the grey SUV would be getting a parking ticket. For being too close to the corner of the block.
I know how nerve wracking that situation is. No one is there to help you, people have no patience with drivers. If you ever get stuck in a situation, The best you can do is to call 911 and get assistance.

Take more space than you need when making a turn you can always give some back If he had done an oversized turn he would Have had All the room he needed. Or you knew guys that don't know what an oversized turn is. When your birds make the Turn Aim for the opposite corner Like you're trying to swing too Wide. Kind of like you're trying to drive up on the Sidewalk. Pull up as far as you can, Then crank your wheels hard the other way Backup a little bit , Then pull Forward I mean A little more like you're trying to make the turn, Crank your wheels hard the other way, Back up again, Do that 2 or 3 times and you can make a turn tighter than normal
The driver may have not made the turn wide enough, but you can't blame him entirely for staying in the correct turning lane, because otherwise drivers will pass or whatever and one would need to be extra observant. But it made the turn harder.
Should have swung wider. But the cars going the wrong way on a one way street didn't help either. I pull a step deck and wow, I've been in some tight places and have learned to watch as I approach a corner.
Remember to all driver from first year to 30 years this can happen to any one... But the same way to deal with this plan ahead always plan ahead... Used a 60 dollar map and trucker gps with satellite view or a tablet Google satellite view... Before entering a city or a place that you ain't sure...
He needs to Dolly down drop the trailer preposition in front and pull forward that's his only chance I've worked for them before they can put you in some predicaments
no one was blocking anything, it's very clear the street is one way based on the direction of where the vehicles are parked here in NYC. you're not allowed to park in the 'wrong' direction
It's not his/her fault! It's his,/her driver manager (DM) that inputted the direction into GPS. The driver follows the GPS. Western Express DM or training DM will send you into a residential area especially if they don't like you. This driver is going to get a 250.00 Dollar fine on his/her driver license but pray not against his/her CDL. but his/her DM will cover it up so that doesn't get into trouble

Something similar happened to me while trucking though Oakland with a 53’ flatbed, I’ll never forget it!! Never made that mistake again 😅

There needs to be a gps option for trucks to avoid such tight spaces if possible

I'm in trucking school currently. I would never have tried to turn there. I would have at least spun the block to search for a clearer path 🤷🏽♂️

Should have swung wider. But the cars going the wrong way on a one way street didn't help either. I pull a step deck and wow, I've been in some tight places and have learned to watch as I approach a corner.
Remember to all driver from first year to 30 years this can happen to any one... But the same way to deal with this plan ahead always plan ahead... Used a 60 dollar map and trucker gps with satellite view or a tablet Google satellite view... Before entering a city or a place that you ain't sure...

The thing that makes these situations even worse is that the other cars will put themselves in the way while you try to correct it.
Must be brand new, if you can't make the turn just keep going straight until you find a turn you can make
GPS must be updated to prevent these situations

He needs to Dolly down drop the trailer preposition in front and pull forward that's his only chance I've worked for them before they can put you in some predicaments

Did anyone notice, He was blocking the do not enter sign. A few cars went the wrong direction on the one way street
no one was blocking anything, it's very clear the street is one way based on the direction of where the vehicles are parked here in NYC. you're not allowed to park in the 'wrong' direction
Good Old Western express. Terrible training program so I'm not surprised
It's not his/her fault! It's his,/her driver manager (DM) that inputted the direction into GPS. The driver follows the GPS. Western Express DM or training DM will send you into a residential area especially if they don't like you. This driver is going to get a 250.00 Dollar fine on his/her driver license but pray not against his/her CDL. but his/her DM will cover it up so that doesn't get into trouble
