The status of Russia’s bases in Syria remains unresolved as Moscow maintains discussions with the forces that hold control over the situation in the country, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. "There are no final decisions on the issue so far. We are in contact with the representatives of the forces that are in control of the situation in the country. Everything will be determined through dialogue," he said, when asked if any decisions had been made on the future of Russia’s bases in Syria and whether social media reports were true that Moscow was considering establishing bases in Libya instead of Syria. Russia currently operates two military facilities in Syria: a logistics naval base in the port city of Tartus and the Hmeimim air base located near the city of Jableh in the Latakia Province. The Soviet Union established a base in Tartus in 1971 in accordance with a bilateral agreement. An aviation group of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria was formed on September 30, 2015, in order to support the Syrian army in its fight against the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia).

They switched from being a Russian proxy to a US/Turkey proxy + a divided country. The former was better in my humble opinion.
while for over 20 years under assads rules all people suffered, while the alawites enjoyed all sort freedom and 90% of assad supporters were alawites. they shouldn't be seen ever in good picture
By your logic, anti Semitism is okay because of what Zionism is doing to innocent Palestinians.
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!!?! IM SO SHOCKED AT THE LIES THAT IS BEING SPREAD
@@jo781 it’s the truth.
Alawites enjoying freedom 😂 thry were threatened the same like any other syrians. My own father who was alawite had to flee syria because they wanted to jail him. Somehow they didnt wanna give him "enjoyable treatment"
Sunnis were always at the minimum humiliated when going to the window of an Allawi government official, the arrogance, the condescending, the interrogation, the abuse of power, the injustice, the vulgarity, the lies... Thanks God from removing them from our backs.
Yes while in neutral countries no alawite would dare do such a thing , we have 0 alawite athletes in thr world 0 stars , no signifcant person. While we have tens of thousands of sunni athletes , influentials , achieved people.
They took full benifit of the assad family being in power, the provide moral, manpower, and political support to the regime throughout. I want the new leaders to forgive them but they should never be allowed to take part in politics for the next 50 years. No blood shedding just social boycott.
Westerners trying their best to side with Alawites 😂😂😂
Very expected from descendants of colonisers
Arabs/muslims aren't colonizers? News to me.
Arabs/muslims aren't colonizers? News to me.
Bit like Arabs with turks then.... Oh a turks cant really be claimed as being westerners although much of the land they colonialized is..
Turks aren't colonizers?
Alawites are shia arabs, turks whom HTS is supported by are from central Asia. One group is a coloniser and its not them.
Learn from Salahuddin Ayubis example ...How he handled the inhabitant non muslims of Jerusalem !!
"Collective Responsibility" of a Community due to a Dictators Crimes has to be Strictly Avoided while Dispursing Justice !!
Only Criminals directly should be punished that too the process of law under an impartial & acceptable Judiciary !!
Otherwise Chaos n Mayhem will continue in Syria !!
This is the way
There is no forgivenes and truth in this world
There is if people want it. There is always a choice.
If ones religion teaches forgiveness and truthfulness, this will not happen.

The fact that the reporter is freely doing his job and the people expressing their opinion shows that the new government don’t oppress them and not taking revenge.
The new government has barely been in power for two weeks; if that. People speaking like there's no possibility for a minority to be oppressed by a new regime need to get real.
Dont worry the minority will feel safe under sunni government In Shaa Allah
They must become proper Muslim

Your syria.. Whole Syrians need be engaged. Love and respect. And build their country from scratch.
Alawites to answer .They are accomplices of the tyrant
So all Alawite civilians are collectively guilty for whatever Assad did?
Who kept Basher in power, who is from a minority community? Not only in Syria.. same thing happened in Sri Lanka.. Burma.. Iraq and many other countries
Iran or Russia?
More refugees coming
They will go to new Israel its going to be full of diversity and multiculturalism..
Now they know how it felt being a Sunni for the past 50 years
Ahmed al-Sharaa (Golani) has already said that they want an inclusieve society. They just need some time to get everything up and running again. I think they should have that time instead of projecting all sorts of things based on prejudice. Up to now they have behaved very civilised, what not can be said of some neighbours.
why didn't they say that during Assad's time?
Let them be afraid, because of them all country was afraid for a years!
This is the one group that the new Syria cannot afford to allow to survive
I do not think this is just what the rebel leader, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, stated
He will tolerate all minorities
And live with it
Only the criminals or those guilty against the Syrian people, regardless of their sect, will be held accountable
They think they are gods!
As if others were opressed for not being Alawites 🤦♂ Assad may have favoured someone based on their political stance, yet those who opposed the regime were equally guilty regardless of their religion. It was never about religion in Syria!
In 50 years of Alawite oppression and killing of Sunni Muslims, there hasn’t been a single Alawite that protested or stood by Sunnis
Merely Peace,❤,unity and Hope and your country will be rebuilt
"It’s been repeatedly stated that the regime’s soldiers will be granted amnesty, except for those who have actively committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. They will face just punishment. These people should count themselves lucky that Sharia law grants them their rights-otherwise, they’d all be losing their heads."
I wish the new Syria all the best...and that the new regime will be an all-embracing and inclusive one where everyone can come together to work to uplift the entire country. Abandon, the "tribal mentality" of revenge where it will only bring misery to any society. God blessed the people of new Syria. Rdgs

Nobody wants revenge.
We want justice in a legitimate court of law with due process.
Kumbaya and "just forgive" can't compensate the blood of 2 million martyrs.
I believe that refusing to hold criminals accountable in a court of law with due process, would actually endanger the Alawite community, and lead to street justice and revenge acts by angry victims.
It's in everybody's best interests that criminals are prosecuted fairly in a court of law with due process, and hopefully that's what the new government will seek to achieve after stabilizing the country in this transitional government period.
Maybe the Alawites can ask Israel to come annex them like the Druze.
The press is free in Syria now. Quite unlike Israel where the press are killed. At least these people can speak to the press in Asad time no one was allowed to the press.
So why the Druze wants Israel to occupy them?
Rubbish
how quickly they want equality. enjoy 50 years of asad
These people weren't exactly treated well under the dictatorship either.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirlthey were treated better tho and most of the good jobs went to them. 95% of the soldiers were from this religion.
The guilty ones in Alwite must be held accountable and have no government positions for them anymore.
Why pajeet have endless effort to put their stinky noise to others nations job
Alawites screwed themselves. Very dumb decisions they made.
They should handover the military generals hiding within their community first before talking equality.
Will the HTS also handover their war criminals? The ones who massacred Alawites, Christians and Kurds during the civil war?
I love how a white man is coming to do his 'journalism' in the country.

Criminals, liars deceivors....
And yes, they're not Muslims either, they were turned into Shia's because it was 'convenient' for Shias (Musa Al Sadr) to declare them Shia since Hafez Al Assad had seized power in 1971, so they became Shia, after being shunned by Sunni and Shia schools of thought...
It's all dirty politics, doesn't have anything to do with religion
Interesting. I was wandered about this unique sect. Thanks for the info.
So what’s wrong if they not muslims?
As minorities, Alawites have got so many priviledges, benefits, while Sunni as the majorities live 'under rubbles'!!!
And how exactly is it the average everyday persons fault? And the Alawites weren't actually priviliged.
Lies lies lies.
Sunnis have always enjoyed a comfortable and wealthy life in syria with over 60% in the higher class, 30% middle class and 10% lower class, where as majority alawite 60% live in poverty %10 wealthy and the rest middle class.
After sanctions alawites suffered even more and so did most sunni, the sanctions affected everybody in syria this is not some new revelation it is well documented.
And no we do not have any benefits or advantages this is a total lie, although i wish it was true then maybe we could all hop on a plane get out of this deash country
Alawites were same poor like all other syrians, the real beneficials were baath party members who were of various religious backrounds
Fear , scared , tortured , caged , killed favorite words of western media
No. Favorite practices among middle easterners and "people of the global south"

Some people love to hold on to their pessimistic views of the world. And when so many people around the world perpetuate these pessimistic ideas instead of promoting positive and peaceful aspirations than what we get is the same negative pessimistic stories replayed over and over.
Yahoo comments like this thread are a breeding ground for this pessimistic rhetoric! Enough already!!
And who is responsible for this? Assad is gone.
I hope their rights are secured but most of them if not all staunchly supported assad and his army when they were raping thousands of women and killing thousands of men in sednaya and all across syria and many of the alwaites vokunteered in this. They are trying to play the minority card now while they ruled with oppression for the last 50 years or so. I do hope that each syrian get equal rights but no need to act all innocent now.
£50 million to buy rubber inflatable boats for them all?
They are so inept they'll sink it before getting it off the shore
Fake propaganda
Security is the main concern for everyone right now. All Syrians.
An international humanitarian intervention is needed.

They should not punish people who never wronged anyone or committed any crime, belonging to Assad clan doesn't mean they supported them,if they do that, very soon they will be on the run
No one is after the innocents, Millions of Syrians simply want justice to be served, Sunnis, Christians, and people of all sects committed crimes and all criminals should be prosecuted fairly regardless of their religion/sect
If those people have no blood in their hands, they have nothing to fear.
Those in fear are those whose hands were responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians
Western media titles are just WOW!
Love seeing Westerners in the comment section seething that a middle eastern country is finally reaching some peace and stability..
Although exact figures for the Alawite population in Syria are not available, it is generally estimated that Alawites make up about 10% of the population (approximately 2 million people).
Up until 2010, before the outbreak of the civil war, it was reported that the Ba'ath Party had around 1.8 million members, which represented about 10% of Syria's population at the time.
Nearly all Alawites were members of this party.
The journalist did not ask whether they joined other Syrians in protesting against the diabolical regime? Also, after the downfall of Assad did they celebrate with other Syrians?
Actions others can't blame whole alawites... Islam shows peace! Sunni know that very well!
What peace does Islam show for apostasy?

They were butchering Sunnis for five decades so they have a reason to be scared
Absolutely ! I’m so disgusted with our mafia foreign policy that wrecked havoc in the world and now we’re doing the same in Syria as we did in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya…
I can't blame them they already controlled the country for 50 years and they committed alot of genocide against Syrians
