Ken the snorkel wasnt even on the list!! haha, get to that front end man, those links are screaming to be built and installed!!!! Awesome that Ken came out to help, what a great guy, cheers
What a bummer getting back from vacation and find out the new snorkel is a P.O.S. Lot of time and effort wasted on this. Unfortunately the aftermarket world has some scams going on and losing $600 to these kind of people hurts. Is nice to see the rear axle is functioning well. Good to have you back in action, ROCK ON!
I installed the offroad garage snorkel. Let's just say modding is necessary. You have to use outdoor caulking sealant and a lot of it to seal that huge gap. If I remember correctly, one bolt hole rivnuts to the fender and the other hole is for connecting both snorkels. I had to bend that roof bracket. I understand for the money its unacceptable but once you get it mounted, the look is awesome.
Seeing your frustrations with the ill fitting snorkel remind me of every time I work on ANY project. Multiple trips to the hardware store and nothing works the way it’s supposed to 🙄🥵. But you always find the strength to laugh it off. Keep up the good attitude 😃
when i lifted my FJ40 in my garage over a winter break, I don't remember the amount of lift, but i went from 33's to 38's, It all went well until it was time to pull it out of the garage, had to flatten the tires completly, and remove the header trip from around the door. : ) good times
The Twins meet reality at Ken’s Customs after a deserved vacation break. Articulation success keeps the team on track as the “to do” list diminishes. Glad you are back to it once again Ken(s)! As always enjoy and appreciate the post even though I was so looking forward to that snorkel solution.
Thanks for the honest review on the snorkel. I was going to buy it, however that’s definitely not happening. Something that expensive should have clear installation instructions, but the real disappointment is the huge air gaps at the various connection points and the poorly thought out brackets to attach to the body.
Welcome back Ken- Started to think you got lost in the Ho Rain Forest😂! Or maybe Vamps in Forks! Glad you have a couple more hands now. Thanks for the awesome sound tracks & vids. Now get back to "Wrenchin"!! Lol
I've had this snorkel on my FJ for a couple years now. Had a very similar experience in terms of installation. Also, it gets in the way of every aftermarket roof rack. When you removed it did you replace any of the "support" brackets behind the fender?
Somebody's been laughing all the way to the bank. Good to know this snorkel sucks, sorry you had to find out the hard way. Hopefully you bought it on credit so you should be able to dispute the charge!
Thanks for highlighting the shortcomings of this snorkel. I was interested in this because it looked good but i read another bad review and went for a tjm instead. Paying so much and wasting time to install crap like this makes me so angry. You are way to easy on these guys.
Nothing wrong with an honest product review. What I got a kick out of was you have an FJ that articulates. Unheard of. Back to the snorkel, I'd be very angry with the manufacturer and the guy looking to blame. I've run into the blame game before. It's incredibly insulting.
Just make up your own bracket for the top, to make it work. Just need to add a little bit to that bracket and it will push it over to your rack holder to bolt it down they have all kinds of different weatherstripping that you can add that will work fine I would keep it and use it and for your 4in intake just go ahead and cut the whole 4 inches and buy yourself an adapter don't neck it down just recut the whole
I think this guy does a better version of this product because they specialise in fj stuff. Ive bought other stuff from them that was good, but I've not bought this snorkel mod. They say its not suitable for LHD, but I can't see why not.
I thought you were being ocd about the snorkel ... until you said $600+ yeah f that. There should be a nice silicone adapter for the air box connection and a thick silicone plate that sits on top of the hexagon to seal it to the top section at the very least. I paid $80 bucks for the one I run on my sequoia and I thought that was pushing it for what you get.. lol.. for $600 I would have made you a tig welded aluminum snorkel.
that's a real bummer about the poor execution on that snorkel; I'd never seen it before and was pretty excited about the clearance as you were starting to put it together. If it weren't so poorly executed, that path would have been a clear winner over TJM and ARB (both of which look like they'd snag things while wheeling). I'd've even run that one you tried to fit, I liked the concept so much.
I hate dealing with accessorie companies I'm dealing with an issue with my rear bumper right now and it's like they didn't even take anytime to really engineer it.
It’s not an easy install…the directions are not super clear but you can decipher them after looking at all the parts. I spent a bunch of time cutting and fitting to make sure it worked and am super happy with mine.
Can't do much when the connection point of the two halves don't match each other. Or change the 3" snorkel connection to a 4". And putting screws into super thin fiberglass is never going to be very strong. I'm sure it can be made to "work" and look cool, but the quality isn't there for the ARB price.
@@offroadhub.official pretty frustrating! Mine arrived in a package that looked like it went through a trash compactor.
