    When you move to New Zealand, you can buy new Zealand shoes in New Zealand that meet your needs. The fewer you have to pack, the less it will cost you, the more money you’ll have to buy exactly what you need when you need it

      @@hedwigseidel1934 For example watching videos where people are doing housework when you’re doing housework to make it easier or less boring. Here’s the Wikipedia definition and a link to the article : “Body doubling or parallel working[1] is a strategy used to initiate and complete tasks, such as household chores or writing and other computer tasks.[2] It involves the physical presence, virtual presence through a phone call, videotelephony or social media presence,[2][3] of someone with whom one shares their goals, which makes it more likely to achieve them.[1] For some people, it works best to both do similar tasks, while for others, just being in the same (virtual) room is enough.[2]” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_doubling

    It’s always fun to be a bit nosy and see what’s in someone else’s closet haha. I’m still working on my wardrobe as well and found that having a strict number didn’t really work for me either. I like taking the seasonal capsule approach - some common pieces stay year round (t-shirts etc) but then others get put into storage under the bed when it’s not their season. I find it helps keeps things feeling fresh as well when I’m not wearing the exact same outfits year round - it’s fun to pull out the next season’s clothes and feel like I’ve got fresh new options even if it’s the same well-loved pieces as the year before. It’s creating artificial scarcity for myself but in a good way if that makes sense.

    I am still early on in the video, but have you heard of Project 333? You end up having a 33 item wardrobe (certain items don't count) for a 3 month period test run. Then the next 3 month stint, you analyze and adjust what does and doesn't work. I'm going to be trying it possibly the beginning of April! (But you can start it whenever)

      honestly I feel like I could have done that before when I had more clothes, but now that I have so few, I don't know how beneficial it would be... but I love the concept of it and may do a bit of a tweak for my final "capsule wardrobe" situation...

    For your one direction shirts: upcycle them into posters! I had several concert tees I love for the memories that I didn't want to part with but I didn't wear, and now they are cute decor for my wall and I get to look at them every day. There are tutorials on pinterest, but basically all you do is cut out the print and glue or staple it to a canvas. It's nice because it's so easy and you can do both sides if your shirt is double sided too!

    I’m not a minimalist when it comes to clothes, but twice a year (autumn and spring) I go through everything I own when I swap out seasonal summer/winter pieces. I sell or donate the items I don’t use, and evaluate if I need to aquire anything. I live in a similar climate with all four seasons, and I store the seasonal pieces I’m not currently using in boxes at the top-part of the inside of my wardrobe. Everything is in the same place, and that makes me see that I have enough when the urge to buy more comes ❤️

    I'm a college student with a teeny tiny wardrobe and I've had not that many clothes (like maybe 25 things) for 2-ish years and I have sooo many thoughts on this topic so SORRY this might be long. The thing that has helped me the MOST to actually get to a point where I don't feel excited by the idea of getting new clothes unless I have thought about it EXTENSIVELY first is repairing my clothes, caring for them carefully (like actually handwashing stuff that says its supposed to be hand washed, line drying stuff for the first time in my life), and essentially getting to know my clothes better because I actually observe them aging and changing as I wear them every week. It's to the point where it frustrates me to have clothes I don't love in my wardrobe, because they are taking up unnecessary time or decision space. And here I will make another important point. As I said I am a college student and I don't have the money (and also I actually don't want to because I know my opinions and style will likely change in the next 10 years!) to own the version of everything I NEED which I might literally "love." So when I say I "love" something, thats not always because I think its the best version of that thing to exist. I have these stupid fucking sweatpants which are baggy as hell and have a random brand name embroidered on them I got for 5 dollars at good will one day bc I needed sweatpants. They're comfy as hell and I can't be bothered to replace them and I love them because I wear them 3 times a week and they keep me warm. Also, because you expressed concerns abt this: I wear mostly lounge clothes and I have random ass clothes (For example purple shit in my college colors) which certainly do not go with a "color scheme." my pants are all gray and black. I am not trying to layer I am trying to rotate between my 4 favorite sweaters and sweatshirts. the advice in typical capsule wardrobe videos is kind of useless to me!!! (watch leena norms and ecofriend lia's videos on capsule wardrobes). If a guideline sounds genuinely useful or exciting to you try it, but honestly the restrictions like color scheme will reveal themselves and analyzing your own experience of your clothes is wayyyyy more useful. clothes are exciting to me BECAUSE I wear them and they make me feel good, not because I OWN them if that makes sense. So if I don't wear something, it kind of stresses me out to own it. When I started thinking of everything I own as something I need to care for and take care of first and foremost (like the cost of an item being the time I spend thinking about it, cleaning it, the space I spend storing it, the responsibility I have to dispose of it or repair it responsibly) having lots of things i don't use has become my worst nightmare.
    All of this being said I have maybe one regret in all of decluttering. I acquired this truly amazing skirt when I was lydia deetz for halloween. it was gorgeous vintage goth. I decided I wouldn't wear it enough and got rid of it. now i have this truly epic ruffled goth shirt with an exorbitant amount of buttons and i only wear it for parties but thats the fun of it i decided! as long as you love taking care of it and storing it and thinking about it (I truly do) then you know its ok to keep it. It took me forever to realize that the "versatile" "practical" pieces which were supposedly supposed to bridge the gap between casual and fancy are useless to me. I will dress in the ratiest shit all week and then wear a lace dress out on the weekend. moral of the story is the things you always want to wear and the things that make you feel truly joyful to wear are the things that will serve you best, not a cookie cutter wardrobe that is designed for a lifestyle you don't live.
    also having less shoes is the best thing that ever happened to me. I hyperfixate on things so wearing one pair of shoes for a year straight is perfect for me. I have gym shoes sandals and boots, plus one singular pair of sick ass shoes. done.

    Just seeing how much you light up when you’re holding your favorite items shows how nice it can be to have a wardrobe that’s really intentionally curated to your style!
    Also, one thing I’d find really helpful if you have any thoughts is just some general tips/ideas for how to extend the life of your wardrobe. I always love hearing your ideas on how to dye or sew/embroider something to fix any issues that come up or have something take on a new life. If you’ve learned any tips working on broadway for how to care for different kinds of pieces or fabrics that would also be super helpful! I feel like laundry should be a simple chore but I’m honestly so clueless about how to care for my clothes long term. It seems like an important skill for minimalism and reducing consumption so if anyone has any good tips or resources please share!

    Yay, love a new minimalism vlog!
    As a fellow minimalist I wear the same stuff over and over again, especially in winter. I have worn this one sweater, I swear it has blended into my aura. I don’t wear it outside the house to appointments, because it’s pretty worn, but working from home most all the time, I opt for comfort. It *is* pretty boring, I guess. But once I get really fed up with it, it’s summer - and/or things will change.
    I actually spring-cleaned my closet yesterday and was happy to realise that I am getting to the point where all the things in my wardrobe actually fit me. One, because I’ve decluttered the aspirational stuff, and two because I lost some weight. (No Buy delivery and broken oven help in eating less junk food!)
    My wardrobe is pretty severely minimal and I would like to have a bit more clothes. But where I live it’s really hard to buy good quality basics in my size (thrift stores are not an option for me as they have very little inventory for plus sizes and/or it’s all polyester cr4p).
    Anyway. I’ve never adhered to any minimalist clothing format (10 items, 3-3-3, the black t-shirt). I’m just glad when I can get a pretty decent piece of clothing that fits me well and matches my criteria for quality and production. I have a smallish closet so that is also a good boundary to have 🙂
    We have a similar skin tone and hair colour. You should dye the yellow dress. Apple or moss green or teal would suit you well, or a more deep orange (brique)?
    Great job! Looking forward to your evolving style!
    💜🌼

    With your tailored dress, how about you try and wear it in a more casual way?
    It could help break up the colour a bit while you decide if you want to dye it.
    Maybe tights, trainers and a jumper over it when cold?
    Or could have a loose shirt or jacket over it without tights in the summer?

  • @mdrb823
    @mdrb823 2 місяці тому +6

    The yellow dress lacks contrast and you’ve got some contrast in your natural features (light skin, dark hair and eyes). I think adding some contrast to the outfit will help make the yellow dress work ie dark bag, shoes, belt etc

    • @iosonoquella
      @iosonoquella 2 місяці тому

      I agree that something subtle is off - I wonder if it's more of a warmth thing instead of a contrast thing? Grace might be a soft summer and the dress looks more clearly autumn (a bit too warm)

    • @gracenevitt
      @gracenevitt  2 місяці тому +2

      I am now having another crisis because last year I thought I was a warm autumn and then I thought I was a soft autumn, but now soft summer actually looks really accurate lmao I refuse to pay for the actual color analysis, but I'm sitting somewhere between soft summer and soft autumn and just going with that...

    Jokes aside, I currently own 20 clothing items (underwear not counted) + a pair of shoes and I'm totally comfortable and happy with them. No particular guideline or label for my system, it's just what I feel good owning right now. And it's all my style! No monochrome, no copying other people, no following the "minimalist aesthetic". I really like the Wonder Wardrobe system by Daria Andronescu which focuses on building a fully interchangeable, personal, and sustainable capsule wardrobe. So no specific numbers or items. I bought her course a couple years ago and work on it every season, but you can gain a lot just from watching her videos and understanding the system. Here‘s the gist:
    1. Lifestyle analysis: You need to know what activities you do in your life and how many clothes/outfits you need for them.
    2. Colour harmony: Choose a colour palette that works for your colouring (seasonal colour anslysis) and that you love.
    3. Body harmony: Make sure the silhouettes of your clothes work well for your body and go together.
    4. Style harmony: Make sure your clothes go well together in style and represent your personal style.
    You can also learn about all of these things from other free sources. For personal style harmony I‘ve been loving the Style Roots system from Ellie-Jean Royden. I feel like looking more into that could help you. You mentioned you wear „basic“ casual sporty clothes which would align with the stone style root. And you like earthy styles which match the earth style root.
    Just some ideas! It‘s fun seeing your journey towards a minimalistic wardrobe :)

    I don't do the 10 item, but probably around 15 pices (not counting outerwear or workout clothes). I live in Sweden we can have a 60 degree celsius differens in the summer and the winter. Where it can be as cold as -30° c and as hot as +30° c. But usually around -10 in winter and +20 in summer, but that's still a huge span. I do it in seasons, some clothes I wear 2-3 out of 4 seansons but switch some of it out. So you can say I do a combination of 10 item wordrobe with project 333. But you do what works for you, that's the most important thing! Love your content 😊👌🏻

    I relate to your reasons for the much smaller minimal wardrobes being a challenger I live in the Bay Area where we don’t have snow, but it’s cold and windy and it’s hot and sunny. Also, I visit my family up in Canada a few times every year. I don’t like the idea of getting rid of items I don’t wear often because the weather when I travel and then need those.
    I try to keep a goal of when I purchase clothing it is something I NEED not something I JUST want. I’ve been good at this the last year and hope to keep it because haha it’s so easy to impulse buy and get things that are cute. I’ve tried making a rule where I need to give up 5 items to buy one item that is more because I want rather than need. Haha

      If I were choosing shoes to keep, keep your everyday sneaker ones, your docs, your rainbows, the white heels, your rain boots, your blundstones, and your cowboy boots. The burgandy ones I’m on the fence about, because would the blundstones work instead in most cases?

      You have my permission to get rid of your running shoes, your fake Birkenstocks, the burgandy ones if you have an opportunity to wear them and chose not to, your rain boots if you don’t love them, the snow shoes with scruffy fur, and the “crusty hell”.

    What if you layered a long sleeve tee under the yellow dress? So then the yellow isn't up against your skin. Morgan Evelyn Cook just made a wardrobe reset video that had a really good logical process for evaluating your wardrobe. Hannah Louise Poston also has a good video on choosing colors to optimize your wardrobe. Your situation is tricky though because you aren't adding to your wardrobe for the next 9 months so not sure if evaluating if you can really perfect your wardrobe without adding to it.

    No way are you an imposter! Documenting your struggles proves it. Clothing and shoes are my nemesis so I relate. I felt you had reduced your clothing a lot since your last vlog and are much clearer about likes and wants. Have you ever watched Kim Bedene on youtube? Although she has a different style, she has some great tips. One tip is to identify all the clothing for a particular season and purpose e.g. sportswear, around town clothes, formal wear. Assess how much of your time you will be wearing those clothes and how often you can launder them. If you wear something everyday and it will need to be washed after each time, you will need many more items than for an occasional formal occasion. I'm going to try to remember your great tip that it is better to have one day when you have the wrong shoes for the occasion than to keep an extra pair of shoes just for that one day. Definitely dye the yellow dress.

I also worry about decluttered stuff just going to landfill especially stuff thats a little worn out.
