    We purchased some bare roots but....yeah they didn't do so well. We have one struggling to survive. Several days of heavy freezing weather and a greenhouse that is a sauna/freezer each day took its toll. I told hubby who loves strawberries, we'll get plants.

      We did bare roots once too and were also disappointed. We ordered these by the flat from a nearby nursery.

    I know that winter time isn't strawberry season but I do sometimes see them during winter in supermarkets and wonder if they're greenhouse grown. I stopped getting them during the winter because when I do they look great but the taste is horrible. They're not sweet at all. Why is that?

    • @JandjacresNet
      @JandjacresNet  6 років тому

      Probably because they are being picked so early to sell in stores that they haven't been able to convert sugars properly yet.

    I love ants in the garden. Great for the soil. Depends what kind though.

    • @JandjacresNet
      @JandjacresNet  6 років тому

      All of ours are "fire ants" - just about the last thing you want when trying to pick strawberries.

    Ants and mice, rats, spiders hate peppermint oil they wont come near it.

      We are growing peppermint back behind this raised bed. Hopefully it will take over quickly. Strange to actually want mint to take over, isn't it?

    I feed ants plain ole grits. Kills a nest quick and naturally.
