Small town mentality is the reason I refuse to live in a small town. Absolutely no variety and nothing to do. Plus people can’t seem to get a hobby and mind their own business.
I definitely know what you mean. In small towns there’s always this mentality to do what everyone else is doing and to never succeed above from anyone else. It’s really stupid especially if you’re passionate about many things and still a minor ( believe me I know😂). I really needed to hear this since I live in a small town and go to a small town school that doesn’t support your dreams. Thanks!
Dude I relate to this 100%, I lost all my friends because they are uninteresting and just drank and talked about trucks. I've always wanted to start a band but there isn't anyone my age in my town let alone anyone who would want to play rock songs. Small town life is very depressing and lonely.
Bro, Im in this boat. I've got out of the USMC a year and a half ago and moved back to my small town. While back, I've had family backstab me more than once and tell me "you wont find a place better or cheaper than here" lol. Quit my job at the best factory in town due to the favoritism, games, and unfair treatment and cant find any other kind of work. I'm packing my bags in a few days and saying fuck it all. Thanks for your input on this topic and glad to hear there are like minded people out there.
Small town mentality is universal! Moved back to small town in Northern Ireland after 6 years in London, England because of COVID. Missed being anonymous in the streets. Can't go out without talking to people and nothing's changed since we last talked so it grinds you down. And then you fall into labelling yourself as an outsider and acting like one and it just gets worse. I do like it here, it's just I'm more interested in now than the past and would rather have something new to do, but when you change you can't expect something else to change for you.
Moved to a small town thinking people here would be kinder, more genuine, more hardworking. Living here has been soul crushing. I never thought life could be this dark. And like you, feel like I have nothing to complain about. It's so lonely. Especially if you're not one of them. Is it possible to change my mindset here? To thrive here in spite of it? I feel like I have to move, but I don't know where to go.
Moved to a small town in Nebraska (Pop. about 300 when all of our out of state property owners are here...). This is the reality: 1. Outsiders will always be outsiders. 2. Almost always more churches than functioning businesses. 3. Everyone is intermarried or at least slept with everyone in their school class. The gene pool is safe for non-swimmers. 4. The home-schooled children are either religious fanatics or uneducated. 5. Meth and alcohol, mostly alcohol. 6. Domestic abuse (fueled by alcohol) is the most common call for the county sheriff 7. If you don't go to THEIR church, they will avoid you. 8. Most have never traveled outside the US, but think the US is the center of the universe. 9. I you suggest anything be done a different way, you are a (fill in the blank). Beautiful country out here, horrible people. The rattlesnakes at least warn you before they attack...
Thanks for making this video! I know exactly what you mean about how toxic small town mentality is. Especially when you’re a minor and are surrounded by people who think you’re pathetic for even trying. And people acting this way are adults and teenagers alike ( believe me I’d know 😂). Moving away makes all the difference!
This is sadly a worldwide phenomenon… I live in southern Spain and have many struggles. Growing up in a 6000 citizens town (still the biggest in a huge area) left when I was 20, came back (to a 700 citizens smaller one) with my wife after another 20 years living across the whole of Europe in big cities… nothing has changed or has worsened. We came for nature and quality of life, but we are constantly judged, for not having kids, for working from home in our own stuff… so we ended up ignoring locals, minding our own business, being an “island” like I call it, but being a first house owner for 2 years now, it’s really hard. People in small towns make small issues a huge deal, recently a neighbour told us “why we had to come here”… just because now there is one car more in the road… I’m an artist too, have tattoos and piercings, my wife dreadlocks, and they basically hate us. All my sympathy for those who find themselves in the same boat!!
Do you think you can stay? Do you think you will survive? My soul is dying in this small town I moved. Moving away won't be easy, so I'm wondering if it's possible to stay and be happy.
When i heard 100 reaturants, I was like, you have one of those lol? Ill paint the picture, I come from a town of 550 in Michigan and all this town has is a bar, convient store a used car dealership a baptist church, ah bicker club and a fire department with the libray attached to it, no gas station or stop lights, moved out awhile back
That may be why I cant seem to make fiends in this small town i moved to. Graduated college and got my first band directing job in the middle of nowhere. I already plan in leaving because this place has very few active young people and is mainly a bunch of sedentary older people. Im planning on moving once my contract ends.
Theres never been a more perfect video to come across. I grew up in alameda,ca (sf bay area). I had to leave like 5 years ago due to rising housing costs. I now live in manteca ca which is a rural town in the midst of urbanization. Since i grew up urban i can safely say everything you say is dead on accurate. Its pretty fucking miserable.
Too many bad memories that overshadow the good...... I have no idea who I even am anymore..... Washington should be in the rearview..... you got Arizona Colorado California? Why go back? You don't have to win, just live with Cherie or Anne...... whatever..... your son is going to calm you down.
To future commenters: this wasn't intended to start a contest.

Lmao exactly!
Mind their own business is the reason for me
They'll never escape it and think you're crazy
Small towns become echo chambers and I’m glad I left mine.

I live in a small town too, lots of gossip. No one really wants the best for you and everyone's just genuinely not your friend but still friendly.
Dat sentence only makes sense to someone who lived it FR
@@SatanenPerkele Yeah, they're disgusting

Oh the irony, I Googled "how to escape a small town" and I'm a mere couple hours away in the same state!
Great video, a lot of great insights based on seeing reality outside that derpy limiting paradigm.
Thanks for checking it out! 😁

Small issues a big deal, minding their own business. Those are my reasons

I am so proud of you. Nobody will stop you but you.
Thank you.
Left my small town as the people were just too hard to stomach! Small minds and nothing to do for the youth so drugs are rampant!
I lived 45 years in cities and 4 years in a town. Yes the gossip is real. I have become very private
100 restaurants is a small town? Shit I must live in a hole in the ground.
Fr. I live in a town of 300. One bar, one post office and nothing else. I thought that was what’s considered a small town
For me I don’t even think it’s about small towns, I just need to get out the state of arkansas
martinsville Indiana is the depression/drug capital of the world
the "Land of Lincoln" lol
Lived in the the big city small town is just like you said.
You can heal in the same place that make you sick. ❤
I like this video. It's the way I feel.

Yep, and all these people who like small towns are either old or people who just hate the world
This rings true!!!
Great video bro, you may only have 2k views but I watched it :)
