As someone who has played football for almost 10 years and had numerous concussions/ TBI's (not all of them were from football) to see the fencing response and repeat trauma is terrible. I got diagnosed with a seizure disorder later in life at the age of 25. This was not something I was born but figured it was my own doing from bad head injuries over the course of my life. Seeing Tua go through this is terrible but also the NFL will not stand to watch a player slowly kill himself with blows to the head until it is too late and ends up with a diagnosis. Plus, the NFL would be liable for late life brain injuries for that player when it was all recorded in front of millions of people.
There's no way the NFL should be held accountable for a player making a quarter of a billion dollars. At that point you're taking the freedom from the hands of the ppl making decisions for their own lives. It's up to the individual, bar none.
No it's completely voluntary that he continues to play the NFL would not be held liable as it's completely voluntary he's not being forced to do it and plenty of people have been advising him that he should retire due to his head injuries guarantee you he's heard all of the media related to this that we have
Dude no one is killing themselves wtf are you talking about, If you say that, literally every player that plays for the NFL, is committing suicide, you can die or get (injured) at any moment, Damar’s injury is what I would put in that category, but a concussion?? Especially one thats 2 years apart… Thats ridiculous, I should fear for Tank Davis life each time he gets punched 😂
Legally players are employees of the NFL, reason collective bargaining agreement is with the NFL not the individual teams. If NFL says you are barred from playing it's their legal right, might get messy but they can if they want.
What Mike is saying: It's none of your business.....it's his Tua's decision. He doesn't need to do anything unless the doctor says he should. Then he should retire but again, it's his livelihood.
It's his livelihood. But his life is in danger. Best result he will be another AB. Worse he could commit suicide or kill someone. Plenty of evidence on this matter. This is his 4th since playing in the NFL. I believe he had 1 in college that makes 5. I'm sure his retirement will be enough to live on. Why risk ones life?

Tua can make it a season without a concussion because he did it last year. He just got overconfident and forgot he was fragile. It was more of a bad decision than inability to play. He has to adopt the Tom brady, avoid contact as much as possible and slide. He can go h2h against Allen for durability but I know he was trying to set a tone instead. Hopefully Tua fully recovers. As a college rugby player that suffered several severe concussions he needs to retire ASAP because the chance of him having additional and more severe concussions gies up each time he has one. There is technology our there that will significantly reduce the amount of concussions, but the existing equipment manufacturers collude to prevent it from being produced. I have a patent and am aware of others out there, and have spoken with the Director of Research at Riddell and all he did was insult and argue with me, claiming "no one knows what causes concussions." It's not rocket science, concussions are caused by the brain ricocheting off the inside of the skull, so preventing head impacts is the largest single contributor. The equipment manufacturers can't make helmets that will prevent head impacts because other people own those patents, but the cost of starting up an equipment manufacturing facility is astronomical so the patent holders cannot produce their own equipment. The existing manufacturers could easily reach an agreement with whichever patent holder they think is best, but they are too greedy because they currently have a monopoly. Maybe if they were sued out of existence by the NFLPA they would change their tune.
I don’t doubt the current helmet makers want to keep their livelihood intact and might even go to nefarious means to do so, but let’s be real here. The cause of concussions is the wearing of helmets bc it causes you to subconsciously lead w the head and shoulders. Your product and others are great and I’m sure they work but the reality is that while it might cause a 5% or maybe 15% max reduction in concussions, the removal/change of the kind of helmets/pads worn would cause a 90% reduction.
He says "It's my body my choice" up until his family sues the NFL for letting him keep playing after he had numerous concussions. They need to forcibly make him quit just because his unhealthy decisions are a liability to them. This guy could pass away on the field.
It is his choice. If they force him out then He should sue the NFL. His family shouldn't be able to sue the NFL. People are entirely too much "feelings fairies", live and let live. He gets one life just like you, and I'm sure there are things you do that others disagree with, and it would probably piss you off if they forcibly stopped you from doing those things. Bring back people being able to decide for themselves, quit trying to put everyone in 1 group. Everyone is different . I eat lots of salt on everything , and I hear about it all the time but my blood pressure is always good and weight is fine, and if it did affect me then it would be my choice to quit not someone elses place to take the salt away from me.

And just to hear that this coach went out of his way to make his quarterback feel better. You don’t hear about shit like that anymore. Really, it must be very stressful and hectic to play in the NFL. You have to have an ego and you have to have people around you telling you you’re good or else who’s gonna listen to ya - it’s tough --prays go out to him in his family I really hope there is a way he could still play and have a promising career. The main thing is he stays healthy and has a good quality of life. Also, that Ryan Shazier hit when he went paralyzed. I felt so freaking bad but it almost at that point and that sucks cause I have a lot of people I played football with Back In The Day who have CTE and other kids who ended up playing in the NFL (Steve Gregory) So it just a matter of luck at this point any person that’s made it to the NFL had to climb an amazing amount of obstacles and for him to get this far while his performance is better then most is sad - brings me back to my old team back in high school n college and how CTE literally made the best kid on my team go from a D1 school to basically begging for change on the corner - its feeeed up 😢

The way I retain information is not the same and I struggle with expressing things a normal person may think is simple. I agree with Mike this is a conversation that needs to happen. This is now about the man’s quality of life. It’s not really about football anymore.
correct it is about life ....Tua's. I'm sure noone would fault him at all if he retired, but it isn't anyone other than his family place to decide what he does. Hopefully he gets several expert opinions and does whatever he thinks he should do.
There is a rookie named Bean, He has a cannon arm with pin point accuracy. He is a pocket passer but can scramble and improvise if broken. He is currently with Indy on the practice squad. He would fit well and can out throw the defenders if 10 can outrun them. They should pick him up in Miami.
I feel that tua, needs to learn how, to play the game safe. Since everything about concussions, came out players especially QB would slide feet first. There was no reason for tua to go head first. Maybe his instincts kicked in, went back to his old style of playing. Mike needs to make sure, tua won't risk his health for a game. Tua talks about what's best for his family. What's best for your family, is to have you in their lives, but not taking care of you for the rest of your life, bc your brain is scrambled.
That is a good point but after 4 concussions at some point you just gotta know when to walk away, he could play as safe as he can until he gets sacked and falls on his head funny then boom concussion number 5, just ain’t worth it at this point

A concussion expert talked about Tua's concussion and past concussions. basically he said that enough time has passed since his last concussion that his brain has more or less reset and this concussion should not impact or be impacted by previous concussions. He said he didn't think Tua needed to retire necessarily, but because this isn't his first severe concussion. they should keep him out a little longer than they did last time and give him plenty of time to get better. From what it was reported that he said, I wouldn't expect to see Tua again till after the bye IF he decides to keep playing.
What's crazy about Tua's concussion is that many are saying he should retire and take care of himself and yet, when players want to wear the guardian caps to take care of themsleves they get ridiculed. Make it make sense!
All these replays show that he is not falling correctly . . . it's like he's allowing himself to be SLAPPED onto the ground on his back and slamming his head needlessly. It's almost like that's the only way he knows how to fall. If he doesn't change that he DOES need to retire for safety's sake.
McDaniel knows Tua better than any of us. I think what he’s saying is that Tua himself might have hinted to him that he’s sick of people telling him to retire. We have the right to be concerned for him, but that conversation topic should be between him and his family. If he retires than I think this is a smart decision, but once again Tua will do what he thinks is best.
“I hurt my back”; bullshit. Everyone watching that game, everyone who saw a replay knew exactly what happened. Professional football players need to be protected from themselves; it’s something we all saw with RGIII.
I think the retirement question is a tough one, suffering 6 myself I would retire. The question is, would a guardian helmet have helped in this case? If there is a chance that the guardian helmet would help, the NFL should make it manditory if a player has suffered X amount of concussion, they have to wear it.
I can't believe this is even a question! No amount of money is worth your health. Walk away with your head held high, focus on your family, and enjoy the rest of your life.

Mike McDaniels is absolutely right. It's his career and health, these guys know what they signed up for and they're okay with what comes with it. It's his choice, as fans we should show support with whatever decision he makes.
I've had a few concussions in my life, and it can be really scary. I'm just a klutz, to be clear. I did participate in Karate when I was a kid, but I got concussions from doing things like running in my Uncle's basement, and running right into one of those vertical support poles, with my face. Another time, I was watching my friends' dogs while they went on a cruise. I left the medicine cabinet open in the bathroom, knelt down to pee (I have a piercing down there) and stood up, forgetting I had opened the medicine cabinet, and hit my right side of my scalp, a little above my forehead, on the corner of that medicine cabinet. It knocked me back down to the toilet, and before I even knew what had happened, blood started pouring into the toilet. The last time was at a Kroger grocery store. I was getting a prescription filled, and I sat in one of those display patio furniture sets. The patio chair folded up on me, kinda pushing me forward, and hitting my forehead on the table, and the back of my head on the chair. The scariest part is when things just don't compute. For example, with the medicine cabinet door incident, my other friend who didn't go on the cruise asked me to go to Pizza Hut and get him some food. I remember being there at Pizza Hut, paying for the pizza, and the guy kept saying "Okay, now you need to give me 30 more cents" or something like that, over and over. I tried to pay him at first, but I was a dollar short or something, so he'd be like "Okay, now you need to give me another dollar" and I gave him a quarter, so he's like "Okay, now you need to give me another 75 cents". I don't remember the amounts, but just that it didn't compute in my head at the time. Yes, I had driven there 😞 I remember having that same confused feeling, after the grocery store incident too. I still swear they gave me a bunch of extra of my prescription for some reason. I didn't tell anyone about how I got hurt, and it wasn't even near the pharmacy, so it's not like they saw it happen. I counted it a few times, but they weren't pills and they had it separated in two containers, plus I had a few left over before that, but I think they gave me 70 when I was only prescribed 56. I counted it over and over. TL;DR: Concussions are pretty scary.
Mike's getting a feeling about the boys. He's entered the cycle for the season! But seriously. Loved the video. I love Tua. I dont wanna see him later in life being broken down and destroyed. He needs to think about his future.
Im not a Dolphins fan, but i like Tua as a player and a person. But in the same breath... Family first. He can get into QB coaching or something. He will still be able to be part of the game. But be there for your family first. There is plenty of honor in that decision.

I was playing baseball in 11th grade and the in field we were playing on was trash. I tripped rounding second base running as hard as I could. I hit the dirt face first and was out cold for a second or 2. Got up and was in a pickle trying to get to home. I felt like I was going to fall over and die. Right after the coach took me out of the game he didn't like the way I looked. I felt so sick and so dizzy and scared. No medical attention. Nothing. Never felt the same mentally and sometimes physically from that day on forward. Scary shit.

No it's completely voluntary that he continues to play the NFL would not be held liable as it's completely voluntary he's not being forced to do it and plenty of people have been advising him that he should retire due to his head injuries guarantee you he's heard all of the media related to this that we have
Our body our choice
Dude no one is killing themselves wtf are you talking about, If you say that, literally every player that plays for the NFL, is committing suicide, you can die or get (injured) at any moment, Damar’s injury is what I would put in that category, but a concussion?? Especially one thats 2 years apart… Thats ridiculous, I should fear for Tank Davis life each time he gets punched 😂
Legally players are employees of the NFL, reason collective bargaining agreement is with the NFL not the individual teams. If NFL says you are barred from playing it's their legal right, might get messy but they can if they want.
It’s a discussion that’s necessary, but not for people outside of Tua.
What Mike is saying: It's none of your business.....it's his Tua's decision. He doesn't need to do anything unless the doctor says he should. Then he should retire but again, it's his livelihood.
Amen…he’s a grown man. If he wants to go out early….
Like wtf am I gonna do 😂❤
Medical advice not Media advice well said
It's his livelihood.
@@Macheakoyoung people make bad choices that hurt them later in life when it comes to their body. Yes he’s a grown man and it’s his choice. And I respect that. But you can’t tell me he’ll be glad he made the choice to stay when he’s 50 (or much younger) and can’t remember his families names.
He should have been pulled due to the blowout
Mcdaniels genuinely looks like he’s holding back tears
McDaniel genuinely looks like on heavy drugs every time he speaks. And he isn´t very smart either, risking his QB in a no contest... Jets otoh did it the right way, taking Rodgers out last week after the game was out of reach.
Hes got 167 million reasons to retire. Even if they can wiggle it down to the min hes got 90 guaranteed and should strongly consider it

He probably will bc Tua is stubborn and surrounded by the wrong people. Including his parents
@@kgibbsiam Correct. He's a grown man. He makes his own decisions. The NFL needs to have him sign an agreement that he won't sue due to a naturally occurring football concussion.

I’m from NYC and man I saw that and I felt so bad. I really hate to see a talented kid even if they’re my rival get hurt like that --McDaniels is saying his worried about tuas health more than he is about his career. I felt so freaking bad but it almost at that point and that sucks cause I have a lot of people I played football with Back In The Day who have CTE and other kids who ended up playing in the NFL (Steve Gregory) So it just a matter of luck at this point any person that’s made it to the NFL had to climb an amazing amount of obstacles and for him to get this far while his performance is better then most is sad - brings me back to my old team back in high school n college and how CTE literally made the best kid on my team go from a D1 school to basically begging for change on the corner - its feeeed up 😢
Ok I don’t really understand what’s going on with what everyone is saying but I understand this. I used to be a drug addict and tried to get clean and while that was going on I sustained a traumatic brain injury. I am not the same and while that’s a good thing I struggle with not being able to do things I took for granted.
I played high-school football and hockey. I had to forfeit a college scholarship bc in the State Finals for hockey I was knocked out cold and suffered what I know know was my 5th concussion that season. That was 1999 we didn't know as much as we do now, I played travel and money hockey tournaments till I was 27, and then I had a concussion so bad it made my brain bleed. I'm 43 now, and my memory and temper are very short, I get migraines all the time, and sunlight hurts my eye and gives me headaches. I'm sure I have CTE, and I'm sure I've had hundreds of concussions. I wish I had the information and rested and gave my brain time to heal.

Yes, I had driven there 😞
I remember having that same confused feeling, after the grocery store incident too.
No one had mentioned yet that this was also exactly how Damar Hamlin was hurt. Helmet into chest. Ironic

Anybody trying to blame this on Hamlin is smooth brained. In case we all forgot that man was probably clinically dead for a couple seconds on the field at the very least he damn near died on the field. He's the last guy in the league that would be head hunting.
Scary shit.
I’ve had 3 concussions that I can recall back in High School and back then if you got a headache playing ball, you wouldn’t come out. You’d be labeled a bitch if you come out of the game. My short term memory has suffered because of this. No doctor has confirmed this, but after all of this information we got about concussions and what effect it has on your memory, I’m 99.9% sure that my concussions are the reason why I suffer with short term memory loss. I’m only 32 years old. It’s gonna get worse as I get older.
