  • The Brocock Compatto multi-shot is a high power PCP air rifle with the familiarity of a carbine and the handling of a bullpup - and comes with a muzzle energy adjuster! This test demonstrates why Brocock’s bijou semi-bullpup package has won the heart of airgun expert, Nigel Allen.
    And stay tuned to the end, when AirgunTV Xtra takes the wraps off the Compatto’s new stablemate - the Bantam (or B-Type Compatto). This younger sibling comes complete with two stock, three buddy-bottle… and a host of power output and calibre options!

    I'm liking the 'Bantam' in beech wood for sure, good to see Brocock moving forward.
    Thanks for the review Nigel.

      Hey Tadpole! Thanks for your thanks... Yes, the Compatto Bantam does look good in beech... especially with the 400cc bottle (I was showing the 500cc bottle in the film). Handles nicely, too.

    Yes the Brocock compatto is truly a great rifle. I Purchased a uk sub 12 ft/b .177 and is currently my fav rifle in my collection. Accuracy is astounding.. All the rifle you will ever need and is super value. More accurate than rifles costing almost twice as much. Would highly recommend 100 %.

    I've the new Bantam sniper HR with the carbon fibre bottle and it's the best PCP IV owned, And iv had some of the very best. Fantastic job Brocock.

      +Mark Layton The Huma-regged version - N.I.C.E! Slightly jealous, Mark. The Bantam HiLite is superb... and only really bettered by the Sniper HR variant. I'm currently doing some testing of the Brocock Commander (also Huma-regged) and, like the Bantam Sniper, it's marking out Brocock as a real airgun force IMO.

      I was looking at the commander. I would think it's a fantastic rifle in FAC . Looking forward to your review. Thanks for all your hard work. Excellent show.

      +roger oldroyd Presumably for NV, Roger, yes? You could always fit an 11-22mm adapter. The Bantam is certainly a very nice variant and, I think, will go down well with airgun news who used to/still like the Theoben Rapid 7. Deceptively light and with loadsa shots... (but a much better trigger than the Rapid)

    Great video Nigel,I was in the process of getting the Compatto in Fac to replace my current R10 but was concerned about shot count. This is serendipity as it answers any concerns I may have had, will be interested in seeing what the end cost will be. Keep up the great work.

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      +FRANKIE HOWARD Thanks Frankie. Glad the video helped. The Bantam is, I think, going to be around £100 more than the original 'cylinder' Compatto... and the shot-count is more than double according to ME/bottle/calibre etc. Cheers, Nige

      Thanks Nigel,
      The upgrade cost to fac on the Compatto is £50 so seems a bit steep - will wait until after its been fully launched to see if there are any snags. ATB

      Thanks Nigel, will just have to wait and see. Being a bit of a traditionalist, I would go for the wood stock but add the carbon bottle. Wish Daystate/Brocock would let you visit them (they are less than 20 miles from me) so that you can have a looksee/feeley!!!

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      pellet man I agree pellet man - that is the kind of shooting role a Compatto would be well suited to. I don't ever shoot from a vehicle, but for traversing around the farmyard outbuildings and hunting from the confined space of a hide, it's also ideal...

    • @forgivenessisasixgun
      @forgivenessisasixgun 7 років тому +1

      AirgunTV I work on a ranch and sometimes shooting gophers and prarie dogs while sitting in the back of a truck is the easiest way. I also use it in the barn. We have a barn built in 1880s has genuine Indian hand carved support beams and people have signed their name the earliest one ive found so far was 1897. I shoot pigeons collared doves and euro starlings so the power level comes in handy. I use my savage 93r 17hmr and my ruger gp100 with 4 inch barrel 357 magnum revolver for a lot of pest control but this rifle comes in handy in side the barn and also when I'm by the horses or cows. I love it

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      +pellet man That old barn sounds fascinating! As for your particular pest control scenarios, I see no reason why a high-power Compatto would not be well suited to operations...

    Nice review. I have a Daystate Compatto, ( I hesitate to use the word BROCOCK ), nice gun. Must say I am not a big fan of plastic stocks, and would have liked to see a wooden stock version, a nice lump of wood, not like the featureless plank they have on the Bantam on their web site. Once again, nice to see you back on the tube. Atb, Bob.

      +CRA1G1EBOY I'm really sorry to hear that, Craig. Aside of this one of mine, all the Compattos I've tested have been good performers. Get Brocock to sort it - sounds like you have an underlying issue. Even though it's one of the most affordable PCPs, there's no excuse for it to be a poor performer. What's the actual issue?

    Prices that I have seen are making this a rather expensive gun £845 at Solware and thats not the fac version. Love my Concept in sub 12' but dont know if I will go for the Bantham in fac. Will wait to see how it performs with our friends over the big pond first as I have read of issues with the current export high power Compatto's.

    great vid Nigel, the buddy bottle on the bantam reminds me of my own cometa lynx mkII. The stock of the bantam is fugly though..nice too see I could screw on a 500cc bottle instead of the 400cc..I recon I could get out about 150-200 regulated shots with that amount of air and in .177
    the compatto looks cool though, I wouldn't mind giving that one a go :)
    now how about that Chrono vid you mentioned?? :p

  • @HARMARSCH2
    @HARMARSCH2 7 років тому +1

    A easy fix for the safety is Paint the red dot green for go when the Compato is ready to fire. Leave the opposite side red for safe. Nice looking gun. Is it available in North America?

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому +1

      +HARMARSCH2 Now that is a very simple, but very good idea, Harmy. That said, it still would need you to turn the rifle to look-see which way the tab was pointing. It's so frustrating - this is the best in-guard safety I've ever used... apart from the fact it's not that easy to decipher!

    • @HARMARSCH2
      @HARMARSCH2 7 років тому +1

      Once you know what direction fire is you shouldn't have a problem

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      +HARMARSCH2 That's true... but what if you temporarily forget? I also think the 'off to the left' suits right-hander best as it falls better to a right index finger than a left one

    Love the looks of the compatto looks more balanced than the bantom but how do they compare to the BSA ultra SE

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      I haven't really shot the Bantam enough to say how it rates against the Ultra SE... though it's clearly stiff competition for the excellent Beeza. Its balance is surprisingly good, much better than the bottle 'look' may suggest... and, personally, I think it works well with more scope options than the original Compatto, Mick. Thanks for your question.

    Nice little rifle, contemplating one for a ratting tool. my main question is what trousers are you wearing? I've noticed in other videos you have the jacket to match. I've been looking for a proper "green" camo for years but the yanks realtree patterns all rule the roost :/

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      Ross - I've been asked this question over and over and over again whenever I've appeared in them! It's actually a pattern that was launched way back in 2007, called Woodland Green... but which never took off and was soon dropped. Yet since then, it draws the attention of just about anyone who sees it... except the quarry!!! I find it brilliant with pigeons and it's great for the UK's countryside (mainly in lusher seasons). The cut of the jacket and trousers are particularly good, too. What a shame it didn't take off - it's about the best I have in my shooting wardrobe.
      And, yes, I think the Compatto would make a great ratting tool if you're contemplating it. ATB. Nige

      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      +srspower ....Or maybe a subliminal message hidden in the cut? Go and have a re-look... but watch closely this time, and you'll come to realise it was deliberate... ;)
      As for wanting something more compact, I'd certainly recommend you take a close look at one at your local dealer (or at a show). It's the classic little big gun. There have been times when I've opted to take this one out over my Daystate Pulsar... and that's saying something.

    • @srspower
      @srspower 7 років тому +1

      Oh yes a brocock version of the wolverine? Interesting although it's a bit OTT for me, I don't need more than 40 shots for hunting at 12 ft lb and if I need more power I'll grab the rimfire. Very subtle camera work there though!
      I will definitely take a look, I was thinking of a BSA Ultra SE with an aftermarket shrouded barrel.

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому +1

      +Bluey Sc'erri Both are good guns and you'd be hard pressed to get a cigarette paper between their performance credentials. In terms of handling, they're each has super-quick, too by virtue of their compact designs. I think it comes down to which one you'd prefer to have in your shoulder - neither should disappoint. If you want all-out power, the Wildcat just edges it, although the Bantam isn't a slouch by any means...

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      Lead Poyzinun Hard to tell, but it might be 10 or 15 yards too far for a 30ft/lb muzzle energy. It'll depend on the prevailing conditions and the quality of the .25 pellet brand, of course, but I'd say your 'effective' range would be more like 80 to 85 yards. Any high-power airgunners care to comment?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess - I rather like the Compatto (though would prefer a wood stock), and think the Bantam (more the 400 than 500cc, but especially the HiLite) isn't too bad looking at all. You could easily say the Theoben Rapid 7 was a fuglie... but it went on to sell in its thousands.

      AirgunTV buddy bottle is hard to get good looking. The bsa r10 would be a top contender. Bantam looks a bit like a hatsan nova. :( doubt it will sell loads outside the uk unless they up the power.

      deaczorz Funnily enough, I always think buddy bottle guns look better in the flesh than 'on paper'. But isn't 30ft/lb enough? Put much more air blast behind a pellet... and you run the risk of creating in-flight instability.

      Sorry was kinda thinking a 0.25 for the us market. and the rest of us that dont have your restrictions. I must agree that the normal compatto looks awesome and I just wish it came as a wood option. Keep doing those reviews they are very well made :)

      +deaczorz Well, the new Compatto Bantam is available in .25 and up to 30+ with a shot-count of 60-70 per charge (according to bottle type), so think the 'export' models will have legs...
