I feel like it's weird that this movie doesn't touch much at all on any crimes except murder. Give me a free day of crime, I'd have no desire to kill anyone. I'd come up with a plan to get some money.
The nffa used murder and kinda turned it into a religious type thing for the purge as a holiday claiming it will cleanse your souls from all the hatred and anger whole point is to decrease the population but the purge made purgers 10x times more violent to the point they snap and start killing outside of the purge
Heres a detail people miss: In the propaganda videos encouraging people to Purge, it says if you're not going to participate, put out blue flowers to show your support. What it's actually doing is tipping off Purgers that you're inside your house with your guard down.
The series has an excellent premise, but the first film devolves into a typical “home invasion” type film along the lines of The Strangers. It isn’t bad, but the film never really explores the premise at all until the very final scenes unlike the sequels.
I couldn't live with myself if I let someone die solely because they were from a marginalised community in a neighbourhood full of rich, white, able-bodied people who feel entitled to literal murder because the law says it's okay O.O I'd definitely get a weapon first, though!
